Chinese New Year 2020 in Southampton city centre - the largest Chinese New year celebrations on south coast.
This is the second image capture of several girls guiding the long body of the dragon on the temporary stage on Washington Street during the Spring Festival celebration in San Francisco's Chinatown on March 7, 2015. This image shows the Dragon in its circular motion after the two poses that highlighted its ferocious looking face. I published the image out of the order taken to show how the young people work with the poles supporting the Dragon. Look easy from here. However, like most things, experienced performers always make difficult tasks look easy. Bravo to these girls for a crowd pleasing show in their Spring Festival Dragon Dance. At first I thought the performers were both girls and boys. Upon closer look, they all seem to be girls from Yau Kung Moon and can use 7 - 16 foot poles for the Dragon Dance. Below are excerpts from their Yau Kung Moon website where they explain they are highly trained Dragon Dancers.
It is believed that Lion Dance brings good luck, good health and prosperity…
Yau Kung Moon has been providing our performance services for over 30 years and has traveled around the world to do its work. We have performed and competed in many Championships around the world. We can be seen at local or overseas competitions, in movies, “Bay Area Backroads,” the SF Chinese New Year Parade, or just performing at a Chinatown wedding/business opening in our signature gold uniforms. We offer these magical moments for you to add to your memories.
Through our vast experience; we have gained knowledge, insight and paid attention to detail. We have done performances from the smallest family restaurant to one of the world’s largest corporations. We know what it takes to turn a good event into a great event.
