On a rainy day in California, I walked up to this woman, holding a bag in each hand, wearing a long rain coat, and a polka dot hat on her head. Across the street waiting for the light is a man with a fantastic mustache, umbrella in hand, wearing shorts. On the other side of the woman's head is a store window with cool scissors.

The banded dotterel is the most common small plover of New Zealand seashores, estuaries and riverbeds. Although their plumage varies seasonally, they are readily identified by their brown upperparts and complete or partial chestnut breast band, the latter being quite striking in breeding plumage. Like other typical plovers, the body is held erect and they have a characteristic run-stop-peck-run foraging behaviour in their pursuit of small invertebrates.
Inland-breeding birds undertake a post-breeding migration to estuaries and other coastal wetlands the length of New Zealand and many also travel to Tasmania and south-east mainland Australia in an unusual east-west migration.

Polish pottery at Baltic Trader, Lewes, East Sussex. This hand-decorated 'eye-spotted' stoneware has been produced in the lower Silesian town of Boleslawiec since the 1800s
Zebra mussel shells that line Lake Michigan's western shore reminded me of the old game of connect-the-dots.

the dots are for fun
to make things lighter
but not only that
they have a dark side too
the dots are a metaphor
the things i have to deal with feel like a virus
by putting the dots on
i make my pain visible
by washing the dots away
i feel like being able to cope with it
i know this might sound rather crazy, but at least i am not religious :-)
