-Liriodendron tulipifera-cousin du Magnolia a été introduit en Europe au 18 ème siècle comme arbre d'ornement. Depuis le 20 ème siècle, c'est également utilisé comme arbre forestier, notamment pour la qualité de son bois tendre et son potentiel biodivertisé. Son bois tendre n'est pas d'usage recommandé en extérieur. En revanche, il est apprécié en menuiserie ,ébénisterie et tournerie pour la fabrication de jouetset la lutherie. Ce Tulipier de Virginie est originaire du sud et de l'Est des Etats-Unis, cet arbre qui peut vivre jusqu'à 300 ans en Europe peut atteindre à maturité 40 m de haut. Les fleurs en forme de tulipe sont jaune verdâtre avec une base orangée très mellifère . Il ne fleurit qu'au bout de 10 à 15 ans d'âge et a besoin de beaucoup d'eau. En automne les feuilles virent au jaune .

My next series is about Kihikihi Domain in NZ (it's 7 minutes' walk (600m) from where I live
The Kihikihi Domain is a huge, multi-purpose sports centre located south of the Te Awamutu township.
It is renowned as New Zealand's premier venue for international horse trials , also providing a cross-country course and purpose-built arenas for dressage and show-jumping. As well as equestrian activities, Kihikihi Domain is also home to the speedway race track, and its fields are busy most weekends with team sports.
A Silver-spotted Skipper butterfly with its distinctive white splash of color perches high on a meadow shrub as it surveys its territory. It's common to the area and flies like lightning.
Le moulin hydraulique à farine rénové.
Construit au cours du XIVe siècle, le fief de Châteaufort dont le château a disparu, fut abandonné par son héritier en 1951. Le domaine, racheté par la municipalité, se compose d'un grand parc arboré avec le moulin à eau rénové, un pont-galerie dont l'arche médiévale fut ornée d'arcades couvertes au début du XIXe siècle, les logis des garde-chasse, la chapelle et l'orangerie.
C'était mardi dernier. La neige n'a pas fondu, il s'en est même ajoutée!!! Ce qui est rare en novembre.

The defensive structure that was already present when the town was founded by the Romans was integrated over time with towers and bastions. The Rocchetta (small castle) built by Egidio Albornoz in the 14th century is still visible, together with the Rocca (castle) of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta that was added in 1450.
The current structure of the monument is due to Giovanni della Rovere, Prince of Senigallia, and son-in-law of Federico III da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino. It was the Duke Federico who offered Giovanni the best architects of the time: Luciano Laurana and Baccio Pontelli. The works started in 1478 with the purpose of adapting the castle to the new defensive needs. In 1503 the Rocca was conquered by Cesare Borgia, the author of the famous massacre carried out in Senigallia and described by Niccolò Machiavelli.
Rocca Roveresca is a unique monument because it was not only a fortress, but also a noble palace, and the seat of an artillery academy founded by Guidubaldo della Rovere in 1533. After the extinction of the ducal dynasty, when the town returned under the domain of the Church in 1631, the castle was used as a papal prison and an orphanage.
Today it hosts art exhibitions and prestigious cultural events.

On peut voir dans son œil se refléter la maman qui est juste à côté de lui.

Common in varied wooded and forested habitats, parks, gardens, farmland with hedges and scattered trees. Forms flocks in winter; often visits garden feeders. Handsome, brightly colored male is distinctive, with bluish cowl, pink face and breast, black-and-white wing pattern (colors muted in winter). Female much drabber but shares male pattern; especially note the complex wing pattern. Both sexes have white outer tail feathers, often striking in flight such as when flushed. (eBird)

We encountered chaffinchs (another introduced species) over much of the country, but did not stop to photograph them too often since our focus was on native birds. This female, though, was in a parking area so I took advantage of the opportunity.
