The bright red nose of the locomotives add a splash of color to the gray, wet, snowy, windy morning. Loaded Sulphur train S774 is just south of the Oshkosh Bridge. A lone mallard is the only other thing watching the train where I am. I was just able to get here, thanks to a heads up.
Once this southbound CPKC manifest (94 cars) got moving again, I was able to get SD70ACe #4052 serving as DPU inside this train. Only autoracks followed after the DPU on the bottom of the train. Shot taken under the Truman Rd overpass on the Pittsburg Sub in KCMO.
Union Pacific ES44AC (AC45CCTE) #7955 as rear DPU on northbound coal empty (124 cars) on the Pittsburg Sub at E 87th St in Kansas City, MO. This isn't my preferred way of shooting rear DPUs, but considering how this turned out, maybe I should use this way a little more often.

High priority containers take the Roseville Yard Bypass avoiding a time consuming routing through the yard. UP C45ACCTE GE model ES44AC) number 7500 has been assigned to DPU duties for this train. A cut of six snow-service GEEPs are getting a once over in preparation for winter work on the hill.

This is something I'm not used to seeing. It must be due to the fact I see the units on transfers in the Kansas City area and extremely rarely see them on road trains. Here, SD70MAC #3937 serves as DPU on the rear of southbound manifest 260 on the Pittsburg Sub in Grandview, MO.

After I exited the inbound Metra train I boarded at Elmhurst, heading westbound on Track 2 was a long intermodal train. The leading power passed my train before it arrived at Melrose, but I was fortunate enough to get this shot of UP #7709 (AC45CCTE) operating as a DPU (Distributed Power Unit) at the end of the train. That reddish dot on the far left hand side of the picture is the Metra train I took to MPK from Elmhurst.

About a block behind M342 comes M346. Having seen the pattern of one unit at the head end and one mid-train I knew that the IC 2699 wouldn't be the only power. An SD70M-2 was about 35 deep today.
