Well I was hoping to wake up and see a new D800 and tons of photography gear under the Christmas tree. When that didn’t happen I got out my iPad and began playing with my favorite new app called DistressedFX. It made me realize that big fancy camera isn’t what really counts. We are really just limited by our imaginations and vision. I’m not saying everyone will consider this pic a real photo or even art , but I do and I had fun creating it. Use the gear you have and get out there and have some photographic fun. Merry Christmas to all ☼ – jimmy

As always, a photo each day for 365 days. All shot and edited using Apps on my iPhone 5.
The photo was taken using the camera App Mattebox for iPhone. The original image can be found below.
First of all I used the app Handy Photo to edit the image. The edits were made by cloning away the more modern elements from the image, such as the Double yellow road markings and the drainpipe on the side of the gate. Next I used the app called Photo Copier to apply a reproduction of the tone, texture, grain and detail of the artist Turner's painting called - Rain, Steam and Speed. Finally I used the App Distressed FX to add the extra texture to the image using the Egret overlay and the Sentiment Texture.
The original photo was taken this afternoon in the city centre area of Coventry. The image is of the Cook Street Gate. This is the second time I have posted an image of this gate, however I still need to post this for my listed building project. The gate is one of only two Town Wall gates that survive from the original Twelve city gates. The other one being Swanswell Gate. This gate was completed in 1385 as part of the defensive walls for Coventry. Once the Town Wall and all twelve gates were completed in 1534, Coventry became the best-defended city in England outside of London. However this was short lived, because after the English Civil War of the 1640's the city walls were ordered to be demolished on the orders of King Charles II.
This Gate is classed as both a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed building. The Gate is number 15 on my list of 19 (Grade I) Listed buildings and number 4 on my list of 10 Scheduled Ancient Monument's in Coventry that I hope to photograph.
I used the blenderapp to blend all 4 images together. I added texture with distressedfx. I am enjoying how Bob's class is pushing me to go beyond what I usually do with my editing.
Saguaro cacti silhouetted against the western sky at sunset--such a cliché, but this IS what I saw while on a run earlier this evening and I just couldn't resist 'painting' it...

First of all I used Snapseed to edit the image. The edits were made by straightening the photo and applying the Drama 2 filter. After that I used an app called Wood Camera to edit the picture. The edits were made by applying the Aquatic 1 Texture and adding the Birds to the image. I added a little more texture to the image using the Ancient filter in HDR Art. Finally I used the App Distressed FX to add extra texture to the image using the Stirred overlay and the Sentiment Texture.
The original photo was taken at just before lunchtime today. It is an image of The Church of St Lawrence. The Church is located on Old Church Road between the Foleshill and Bell Green area of Coventry. A church dates back on this site to the 12th century (the only Evidence of that remains is the early medieval Font). There have been various additions to the church over the years using a variety of different local materials during the rebuilds and modifications.
The church is is a Grade II* Listed building and is number 4 on my list of 24 (Grade II*) Listed buildings in Coventry that I hope to photograph.

The original photo was taken this afternoon. It is of the Vignoles Bridge. This is a single-span iron footbridge that spans over the River Sherbourne just outside the city centre in Coventry. The bridge was moved to it's current location in Spon End in the late 1960's. It originally spanned over the Oxford Canal. The bridge is listed as one of the Ten Scheduled Ancient Monument's in Coventry.
"It is a symbol of nature's grace in growth, expansion, and renewal. It is also a symbol of order amidst chaos as reflected in its spiral precision. As the nautilus grows, it does so in direct proportion to its needs and with geometric precision." Dr Becky Beaton

First of all I used an app called PhotoCopier to edit the image. With this app I applied a reproduction of the tone, texture, grain and detail of Botticelli's Painting 'Adoration of the Magi' to my image. Finally I used the App Distressed FX to add extra texture to the image using the Cole overlay and the Lade Texture.
The original photo was taken late this afternoon. It is of a Medieval Timber-frame cottage. The cottage is the only building of it's type to still be standing in the city centre area. The original cottage was built around 500 years ago and was part of a larger row of cottages attached to the nearby St Mary's Guildhall. The latter additions to the cottage include the chimneys which were added on about a hundred years after the cottage was built. The shop window was also added on the the front during the early 19th century. The cottage is a Grade II* Listed building and faces the one of the entrances of the Ruined Old Cathedral of St Michael.
This is 1 of approx 24 Grade II* listed buildings in Coventry that I hope to photograph, along with a further 19 Grade I listed buildings. There are also 10 Scheduled Ancient Monuments in Coventry that I hope to add also.
Really nice app. I used it on a previous image in my photo stream. Can you guess which one?
I found a tutorial by the artist/developer Cheryl Tarant on YouTube
and her app website is also very well done.

First of all I used the app Handy Photo to edit the image. The edits were made by straightening the photo, then cloning away the part of two cars from the side of the Church. I also deleted the telephone cable from the top of the image. I then used an app called Mextures to apply some lighting and textures to the image. This time I used a built in Preset called Saturated Purple provided by Neal Dieker. Finally I used Distressed FX to add extra texture to the image using the Stirred overlay and the Broken Texture.
The original photo was taken this morning in the village of Berkswell. The image is of the parish Church of St John the Baptist. The current Church was built in the 12th Century and is of a Norman design. This church is built on the site of an earlier Saxon church. Part of the crypt beneath the Church dates back to the 8th Century. One of the other features of the church is the gabled and timbered porch that was added in the 16th Century. The porch was originally the first school room in the village. I am hoping to go back in a day or two to see and photograph the crypt of this church. On a lighter note, this Church was featured on TV last week (5th June) as part of an ITV Comedy/Drama series called 'Love And Marriage'. This series is based in and filmed around the Coventry area.
The Church is classed as Grade I listed in Berkswell, Solihull. The Churchyard Cross in front of the church is classed as a scheduled monument.

First of all I used the app Handy Photo to edit the image. The edits were made by cloning away a few little bits of the modern elements such as the Alarm box and the Lamp from the front of the building. Also the Railings and the Drainpipe from the lower right side of the image. Next I cropped the image and applied the X-Tek filter using PhotoToaster. Finally I used the App Distressed FX to add extra texture to the image using the Lily overlay and the Lade Texture.
The original photo was taken late this afternoon near the Manor House Drive area of Coventry City centre. The image is of Cheylesmore Manor Gatehouse. The Gatehouse is all that remains of the Older Cheylesmore Manor and part of it dates back to the year 1250. The Manor was once a Royal Palace that belonged to Queen Isabella and then later her grandson, Edward the Black Prince. Years later King Henry VI also lived in the Manor House. There have been many additions and alteration over the years and after the Second World War the Manor house was restored to how we now see to today. The building became Coventry's Register Office in 1965. It is said that Coventry's Motto "Camera Principis" (meaning The Prince's Chamber) that appears on the City Coat of Arms, is a reference to Edward the Black Prince from his time spent Cheylesmore Manor.
The Manor Gatehouse is classed as a Grade II* listed building. The building is number 13 on my list of 24 (Grade II*) Listed buildings in Coventry that I hope to photograph.
Taken with Clearcam. Snapseed to straighten and color adjustment. Noir for the vignette and Lenslight to create the blue glow. Distressed Fx's birds and Stackables to create the texture. Blended in Juxtaposer.
Oh that first initial feeling of freedom as the cables snap and the carousel animals go free. Free as they fly but not when they land. Did you think they would run? Did you think they were that happy. I loved floating on Ferris Wheels and these loaded with Carousel horses are really significant for Peace of Mind.

Only Rabbits were allowed Pencils
—it wasn’t because they didn’t mark on the walls but because they tried to write it all down. Notice how many rabbits lead stories? The White Rabbit, Brer Rabbit, the Velveteen Rabbit, Goodnight Moon, Compair Lapin et le Petit Bonhomme Godron, Peter Rabbit, Bunnicula, Pat the Bunny, Miffy and always Harvey.
By the time that the light of certain stars who went “out”, who went “nova”, who “went for a little walk” reached earth it would be their “afterlife”? So where are the photos and articles. There is a gap out there and while I know we are all made of star matter, and while I know “I have loved stars too fondly to fear the night” I also know that some of those lights are turned off up there.

The original photo was taken early this afternoon. It is mainly of of the outside of St Mary's Guildhall in the center of Coventry. St Mary's Guildhall has a long and distinguished history, it is considered to be the finest medieval guildhall in the country. It was built on part of the site of the former Coventry castle, building started in the year 1340 and was completed two years later. It was built to serve as the admin and ceremonial base for the richest merchant guilds of the area such as the guild of the Holy Trinity. Notable guild members such as Kings Henry V, VI and VII and Dick Whittington (famous Lord Mayor of London) were all members of the guild. Mary Queen of Scots spent two months detained in the city of Coventry during the winter of 1569 stayed at the Guildhall. Another monarch, King James II was once entertained as a guest of the guild. Up until 2002 the Guildhall was the location for the annual ceremony of 'mayor making' for Coventry's Lord Mayors. Other notable buildings in the image include. The Old Cathedral ruins of St Michael (a Grade I listed building to the Left side of the image) and an Old Tutor Cottage (a Grade II* listed building on the Right side of the image). The main entrance to the Guildhall is in the bottom center of the image (just below the large dome style window).
The building is classed as a Grade I listed building. The building is number 12 on my list of 19 (Grade I) Listed buildings in Coventry that I hope to photograph.
