This is a view out of my front door, which has a leaded glass window. Some of the pieces are cut like gems (like the vertical bar just right of center) and some pieces have a swirly uneveness resulting in the distortion seen in most panes.

Ok - so by popular request, another moonset shot. I thought I was seeing things as the moon neared the horizon and what seemed like a second moon or a moon reflection emerged from the sea.
I understand there is some kind of light distortion at the horizon but its beyond my knowledge of physics.
I'm sure there's a few of you out there who understand this effect but it was new to me and a big surprise.

Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand.
The city suffered a series of earthquakes between September 2010 and January 2012, with the most destructive of them occurring on 22 February 2011, in which 185 people were killed and thousands of buildings across the city collapsed or suffered severe damage. By late 2013, 1,500 buildings in the city had been demolished, leading to ongoing recovery and rebuilding projects across the city.
