One of 2 Springtime darners at Pigeon Mountain in North Georgia last week. They didn't make it easy - keeping a distance and hiding down in the thick grasses. They have an early & short flying season.

I happened to notice this squirrel munching on a pine cone when I was following the flight of a crow. Couldn't help but think of the title, it is social distancing to the extreme. :-) Thank you for taking the time to view, fave and comment on my images. Stay safe and well.

Another day on the banquise. When we came the sunshine was gone so some gloomy lighting that need a lot of postprocessing gimnastics to get some life.

I am going through the lenses I did not use for a quite while. A Jupiter 11 is one of those. A funny looking little lens from 1960. I forgot how much I like the world seen through 135mm lens. This one is quite slow, f4, but for this kind of day, some tight landscapes and portraits it is more than enough.

People are still wearing masks and following the social distancing protocol in the park. But it is more important to keep healthy by exercising.. and getting some fresh air.

Taken on my morning walk around the West Oxfordshire village of Standlake. This long straight track runs from one side of the village to the other.

At 144 feet, Dettifoss is impressive to say the least. The spray alone forms hundreds of mini waterfalls on the west side of the canyon as well as influences the entire habitat of the west side. Notice the east side of the canyon is dry and rocky and the west side is green and lush far into the distance.

The roar of the falls greets you the moment you leave your car, long before you make the short hike down to the cliffs.

Taken about 30 mins before sunset.

I owe you nothing

I be myself and I ain't fronting, eh, nah, nah, nah

I owe you nothing

I be myself and I ain't fronting, eh, nah, nah, nah

I don't have to smile for you

I don't have to move for you

I don't have to dance, monkey dance, monkey dance, monkey dance for you

See, I won't help you understand

I don't need no helping hand, no

See, these aren't tears, this is the ocean

These aren't fears, this is devotion

I owe you nothing

I be myself and I ain't fronting, eh, nah, nah, nah

I owe you nothing

I be myself and I ain't fronting, eh, nah, nah, nah

I don't have to walk for you

I don't have to talk to you

See, I'm not on display

Never was, never will ever be for you

I won't help you understand

I don't need no helping hand, no

See, these aren't tears, this is the ocean

These aren't fears, this is devotion

Why you always have to try me?

You think that I'm gon' follow blindly

Why you always have to try me?

You think that I'm gon' follow blindly

Oh, let me down easy

Baby, let me down easy

Let me down easy

I owe you nothing

I be myself and I ain't fronting, eh, nah, nah, nah

I owe you nothing

I be myself and I ain't fronting, eh, nah, nah, nah

Nah, nah, nah

This has been more of a spur of the moment stop to walk and hike this area in Death Valley National Park. I'd read about the polished rocks and layers, but as I walked further in, I found myself drawn to the peaks on this north side of Tucki Mountain. Then a raven flew overhead...no, soared above me. I was barely able to capture the image I did. What I liked about it was the canyon and walls around me with the mountains peaks off in the distance. Above all this was a raven just taking it all in...

Birds on the Fence, sitting there just having a chat as the evening draws on I was photographing into the distance so they are blurred, but they look companions.

Another ICM from last night, might have to try some more of these :-)

While the migratory birds are departing for warmer places and the mammals grow their winter coats, the northern prairie undergoes a rapid and dramatic transformation. The green hills have turned brown and orange; red fruits appear on the buffaloberry bushes. Days are shorter, nights cooler. Change is in the air...

In October my friend George, the film maker, came down from Swift Current for a screening of his documentary, Wild Prairie Man, at the Palais Royale Theatre in Val Marie. The next morning he came by my house in the pitch dark and we headed out to Grasslands, watching as the southeastern sky began to glow and brighten, and then looking for a good spot to get out as the first direct rays began to sweep the prairie.

We stopped somewhere between the former Dixon and Walker ranches, now part of the national park. Here the broad plateau was broken by gullies that drain snowmelt each spring into the Frenchman River, seen here as a dark band of shadow near the top of the frame, but not far away, lined with small trees and shrubs. I used a wide angle lens to emphasize the foreground - in fact this shot is 75% foreground, and the distances look greater than they really are.

Nevertheless, it's a large valley; behind me, the hills rose up just as they do on the far side. I often imagine this place in early post-glacial times, when much of this valley would have been filled with water: the Frenchman rolling southward into the Missouri drainage, as it does today with far less volume. What a privilege to be here, now, in a place filled with wildlife, on the relatively untouched prairie, with only the breeze making small sounds through dry grasses, and sometimes carrying distant coyote voices. But my fingers were numb with the cold. Soon I'd be breaking out the winter parka, boots, gloves, mitts, and wool hat.
