Per Cornell's Birds of the World: "Injury-Feigning Display [often with wings spread more as well] -- to lead predators away from a nest." While we WERE on the roadway, I assume there was a nest nearby.

comments have been disabled, but I thank everyone that took a closer look...
Members of a group stand together and display to each other by stretching their necks upwards, then uttering calls while head-flagging, and then flapping their wings. The displays do not seem to be directed towards an individual, but instead occur randomly. These displays stimulate "synchronous nesting" and help pair up those birds that do not already have mates

A few more shots from the Bolddogs Display Team at the West Show on Guernsey, last week. It was very spectacular but it does make me wonder what makes someone want to do this sort of thing and how they learn to do it!
A couple more shots below - the last shot isn't upside down but the motorbike was!

What a huge and pleasant surprise - I went outside to get something from the garden this evening, and to my left this amazing display of noctilucent clouds was occurring! Forget the chores, get me a camera!!! I have waited ages to see this wonderful spectacle, since learning about them. Admittedly, not the most scenic of locations - looking to the north over a field close to my home - but there was no time to find anywhere else before they would disappear.....so electricity cables it was!! Anyway, I hope to be able to capture such a display again sometime, and hopefully when in a mountain range........ Anyway Fujifilm X-T30, Fujinon XF18-55mm f2.8-4.0 R LM OIS - ISO800/f4/25 secs

Travelling back down South through the night after being in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula we caught a glimpse of Aurora, after a quick stop off it disappeared only to burst into life further along the road and it was another dash out to capture what was for me the best display I had seen(until the last night over there). I've shot the spikes of Aurora before but to see the swirls was something else - magical.

Enjoying the day sitting on a bucket in the swamp watching osprey and eagles but this lovely display of mallow at the dam information center was begging to have its picture taken. Have a great week my friends! Finally today a nice gentle rain! Hooray! ~Sam
"Swan Display - Triptych" by Patti Deters. A Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) shows off the beauty and grace of his wings and feathers as he settles in the water. These great white birds are one of the most beautiful and graceful water birds to be found in Minnesota. This triptych is the same bird in different stages of display (where they show off their wings by flapping and splashing around). A splatter texture has been applied for a high key, minimal, and artistic effect. Each image in this triptych is also available individually by going to the links below.
