I first thought this Painted Bunting was a female, but when it began displaying and singing I realized it is an immature male. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
These were taken through the skylight about 2 miles from the Craigavon Lakes annual pre Halloween display ... Happy Halloween to all my contacts !

I drove a couple of hours to spend a few hours at this beautiful lagoon at Clearlake in California. It was great fun to watch as these Western Grebes guarded their nests, courted, did a lot of 'displaying' and chased each other around in these quiet waters.
Usually you see them laying around sleeping but this day there was much activity.

I had the most amazing experience shooting a pair of Louisiana waterthrush 3/24/2018. It was the first day of turkey season in Georgia so some roads that were previously blocked off in the logging property that doubles as a wildlife refuge were opened for the hunting season. That allowed me access to some habitat I prefer to work in Spring migration. That is where I heard the melodious song of my first Louisiana waterthrush of the season. As I was parking my pickup along the side of the dirt logging road I heard the song of my first B1ack-throated green warbler of the season as well. I gathered my gear and sauntered down the hill into the still largely denuded forest below where clear winding streams flowed. I choose an area to set up close to where I had been hearing the waterthrush. I soon realized there were two of them, and they were not behaving as competing males but rather were foraging about together. I had them down on this stream together, and the one seen is the suspected male, whom I observed singing on occasion. I have never seen a waterthrush display like this, and I wonder how many times this has been captured by camera? It is not a body posture I've ever observed before with this species. He acquired the pose slowly reminiscent of a tom turkey displaying. He maintained this pose for what seemed an eternity, but was just a few seconds. He better be careful since after all it is turkey season!
We were out fishing and spotted this splashing commotion; three loons were doing various territory displays. Other than a lot of splashing, waterslapping and calling no one got aggressive to another.
Kellie and I visited Luminaria at Thanksgiving Point on a fairly warm evening. The lights were better than ever. Here is a view of the main tower and the field of multi-colored lights lined up in programmable rows on the ground.
About 30 minutes before sunset looked outside and there were storm clouds about ... so decided at the last minute to grab the camera and tripod and head down to my dad's along Middle River. Turned out to be a pretty glorious display (last 3 or 4 times down there it was pretty bland).
But tonight, the sky went quite pretty. As it was like a summer evening, temperatures in the upper 80's, my dad came out and took a seat on one of the benches there to enjoy the display along with me.
Of course I put him to work, telling him not to move for 20 seconds while I composed him there in the light enjoying that view up river. Captured with the 6 Stop ND filter.

This male Anole was just getting his summer colors and was displaying for me like crazy! He was low on a tree surrounded by poison ivy ... so I had to tread carefully for shots. In the pond next to him were baskettails, a stream cruiser and a swamp darner zipped around me. During a short break in the rain!
