This display was custom made to be used for Halloween and Christmas. Nothing on the bare platform screams Halloween so if you place Christmas buildings on it and sprinkle on some snow, BAM, you have a Christmas display. It's great because you save on storage space and the display looks equally great dressed up for Fall or Winter.
The spiral galaxy NGC 3596 is on display in this NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image that incorporates six different wavelengths of light. NGC 3596 is situated 90 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Leo, the Lion. British astronomer Sir William Herschel first documented the galaxy in 1784.
NGC 3596 appears almost perfectly face-on when viewed from Earth, showcasing the galaxy’s neatly wound spiral arms. These bright arms hold concentrations of stars, gas, and dust that mark the area where star formation is most active, illustrated by the brilliant pink star-forming regions and young blue stars tracing NGC 3596’s arms.
What causes these spiral arms to form? It’s a surprisingly difficult question to answer, partly because spiral galaxies are so diverse. Some have clear spiral arms, while others have patchy, feathery arms. Some have prominent bars across their centers, while others have compact, circular nuclei. Some have close neighbors, while others are isolated.
Early ideas of how spiral arms formed stumped astronomers with the ‘winding problem’. If a galaxy’s spiral arms are coherent structures, its arms would wind tighter and tighter as the galaxy spins, until the arms are no longer visible. Now, researchers believe that spiral arms represent a pattern of high-density and low-density areas rather than a physical structure. As stars, gas, and dust orbit within a galaxy’s disk, they pass in and out of the spiral arms. Much like cars moving through a traffic jam, these materials slow down and bunch up as they enter a spiral arm, before emerging and continuing their journey through the galaxy.

I seen one similar to this in an antique shop, they were asking $15 for it I think, this one I happened to have that I think I found free or bought at Goodwill.
This small breviary, having more that five hundred folio, is extraordinary for its length, considering it is the summer portion of a two-volume breviary for the use of Liège. The manuscript was completed for ecclesiastical use at Cathedral of Notre-Dame and St. Lambert in Liège in 1420 circa. The attribution is evidenced for instance by the Petitions to the congregation of this Cathedral (fols. 114v-117v), as well as the armorial shield of the family of Surlet de Chokier of Liège represented at the opening of the Psalms. The manuscript has a modest, but interesting, decoration with historiated and non figural initials that mark the liturgical texts. The folios opening the major divisions of the texts, display a border decoration with natural motifs and angels playing instruments. The most notable pictorial effect is probably found in the initials inhabited by transparent figures on rich blue ground. The technique is visible, for instance, on fol. 156r with the gold monstrance hold by the translucent angels for the feast of the Corpus Christi.

This is the goldcrest from the other day who was doing some sort of display aimed at another one who'd just flown past, dunno if it's agressive or a ' green light 'as it were. It was wiggling its wings around and looking upwards.
There is no denying where my -if I may be so bold- artistic talents arise. My father has always had a camera, his father had a camera and was a master gardener, my mother has always been clever with words and decoration, her father a story teller, great with a pen in both word and illustration, and I have an uncle involved in graphic design and magazine editing. This is just one of the displays my mother has set up in my parents' house.

This is the display in the Epcot 25th Anniversary retrospective museum in a tucked away room in Communicore West. It was so sad when I heard that this was closing. Not that I cried or anything, but I thought it was the coolest and the attraction that best captured the spirit of Epcot. The IMAX sized screen, the choose-your-own-ending, the hope that one day we would be able to live in zero gravity - all just so cool. And who wouldn't want a robot butler like this guy? Especially with a far out vacuum like that!
I heard an imagineer on the WDW Radio Show podcast last fall talk about how some people suggested that the ride in Horizons should have been what was in Spaceship Earth rather than the communication theme. Good point.
I just think they could have updated Horizons and had something more interesting than Mission: Space. (M:S is Ok, the barf bags are really unnecessary for anyone but the most sensitive to spinning, as is the green/orange version of the ride, but Horizons was so much more interesting to me, despite the lack of thrill ride excitement). So anyway, now Horizons is now our past of the future, and if you look closely at the poster, you'll see the future of yesterday and how much differently it actually is, at least until we get the cool personal aircraft.
