Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

A previously unreleased shot from 1st April 2018 and captured with the discrete 40mm pancake lens which, admittedly, is less discrete when mounted to a 5D Mk III. Still, I hasten to add, this is not a reaction to my camera and lens but rather the reason why I took the photograph in the first place. Enjoy!

Empty cars and important cargo for the production of copper ore at Freeport McMoRan's Morenci, AZ, mine ascend the slope comfortably in excess of 5% out of Clifton behind a five-pack of diversely-liveried GP38s; audible each and every discrete, gunshot-like exhaust note beating against the surrounding rock faces in a cacophony intrinsic to the roots blown 645 design. At notch 8 engine speed of 900 crankshaft revolutions per minute, each two-stroke 645-cubic inch cylinder ignites 15 times every second. With 16 cylinders apiece, each engine fires off 240 shotgun-like blasts skyward every second. With 5 GP38s humming together in perfect harmony, this consist emits a cool 1,200 individual detonations every second. Now you understand why every second of the madness is so captivating.

"U ritmu krila i peludnog praha"

🇬🇧 ENGLISH:

"In the rhythm of wings and pollen dust"

Somewhere among the dandelions, at the edge of another spring day, this little explorer landed — a hoverfly (Syrphidae), often mistaken for a wasp because of her striped outfit.

She’s not here to defend territory or sting a curious hand — she's here for nectar, and perhaps, like me, to get lost for a moment in the peace of a flower.

Her wings vibrate in a rhythm too fast for the human eye, but the lens catches her curiosity and gentle touch on the dandelion — the modest queen of the meadow.

Shot handheld, with lots of patience and even more passion.

📍 Captured somewhere where nature still whispers in an ancient language, and I try to understand it through the glass of my lens.

American Oystercatcher

The American Oystercatchers are a group of waders forming the family Haematopodidae, which has a single genus, Haematopus. They are found on coasts worldwide apart from the Polar Regions and some tropical regions of Africa and South East Asia. The exception to this is the Eurasian Oystercatcher and the South Island Oystercatcher, both of which breed inland, far inland in some cases. In the past there has been a great deal of confusion as to the species limits, with discrete populations of all black oystercatchers being afforded specific status but pied oystercatchers being considered one single species.

The name Oystercatcher was coined by Mark Catesby in 1731 as a common name for the North American species H. Palliatus, described as eating oysters. Yarrell in 1843 established this as the preferred term, replacing the older name Sea Pie.

Common Blue Butterfly:-

Living up to its name, this butterfly is the commonest blue found in the British Isles. While the male has bright blue uppersides, the female is primarily brown, with a highly variable amount of blue. This is the most widespread Lycaenid found in the British Isles and can be found almost anywhere, including Orkney. It is absent, however, from Shetland and the mountainous areas of Wales and Scotland. This butterfly forms reasonably discrete colonies measured in tens or hundreds, with individuals occasionally wandering some distance.

It's been 4 years since I did anything in the style of another artist. In the Summer of 2013, I did several pieces at the invitation of Beth Rosengard, in the styles of Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock and Vincent van Gogh.

This time it's in the style of Flickr artist, Tim Noonan. It's in response to the Award Tree Group's challenge "Art Like Tim Noonan" and I finally have the software to do it. A bit of fun for the Summer.

Not only is the photo manipulation style an attempt to "do a Tim" I've also chosen some of Tim's themes, neighbourhoods and ( very discretely included ) female mannequins. I hope I did him justice.

After hearing his shrill cry I ended up spotting him traveling from one tree to another I followed him patiently and as discreetly as possible to finally see him having a snack

A tiny brown owl of mountains and foothills; descends into valleys and lowlands during the winter. Appears in both rufous and gray morphs, both dark above and white below with long, distinct streaks on the flanks. Tooting song, often given during the day, can be mistaken for that of a barbet, but the Collared Owlet song has four discrete notes, with the second and third notes given close together. (eBird)

Heard several times during our time in Khao Yai but seen only once. This tiny owl knows how to blend into the canopy, often hiding in plain sight.

Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary Butterfly:-

The Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary is a delightful butterfly found in discrete colonies. Patrolling males can be seen flying a couple of feet from the ground, alternating a burst of rapid wing beats with a short glide, searching out freshly-emerged females in the surrounding scrub. The wing pattern, however, makes the adult butterfly difficult to follow in flight, it being much easier to observe this species when it is basking or nectaring on flowers of Bugle and other plants.

This butterfly, like the Pearl-bordered Fritillary, gets its name from the series of "pearls" that run along the outside edge of the underside of the hindwing.

The two species may be seen together at certain sites, although the Pearl-bordered Fritillary emerges a couple of weeks before the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary and generally appears much paler as a result.

This strongholds of this species are found throughout much of Scotland and Wales, and in the north-western and south-western counties of England with scattered colonies elsewhere. It is absent from the Outer Hebrides, Orkney, Shetland, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. This butterfly is found in discrete colonies containing anything between a couple of dozen and 100 adults at peak.

Elles étaient encore très discrètes cette année.

A discrete conversation in Somerset House.

In one of my recent and lonely excursions testing cameras and different lenses, I went to Moià, the capital of Moianés, which is a newly created region. More exactly in 2015 and by popular vote.

It is a city that has been known since before the year 1000 and is an amalgam of new and old buildings well preserved and with winding streets with slopes breaks legs since it is located on a hillside.

I decided to edit this street because there was no car that would ruin it and because its buildings are really old without modern reconstructions.

The edition with discrete and blurred colors applied smoothly on the black and white version make it different from my more classic versions.

I was looking for something different, but I do not know if I have succeeded.

U kasnom poslijepodnevu, kad sunce nježno klizi prema zapadu, jedrilica spokojno plovi nebeskoplavom pučinom.

Svaki povjetarac donosi miris soli i slobode, a svaki val nosi šapat starih priča. U ovom mirnom trenu, obgrljen ljepotom hrvatskog krajolika, osjećam kako me more nježno prima u svoje naručje i budi u meni duboki osjećaj pripadnosti i povezanosti s vječnom modrinom Jadrana.

In the late afternoon, as the sun gently slips toward the west, a solitary sailboat glides across the sky-blue Adriatic. A soft northwesterly breeze sways its white sails, carrying the vessel like a quiet thought across the sea’s mirrored surface. On the horizon, the graceful arches of the Krk Bridge embrace the rocky islet of Sveti Marko, standing watch as it separates the two spans. Behind them, the outlines of Rijeka melt into the layered blues of the hills, as golden light dances upon the waves.

Memories of past summers float in the air — laughter, the warmth of family, and the lullaby of waves under starlit skies. Each breeze brings the scent of salt and freedom, and each wave whispers old stories. In this peaceful moment, surrounded by the beauty of the Croatian seascape, I feel the sea gently cradling me, stirring a deep sense of belonging and connection to the eternal blue of the Adriatic.

It's raining on Kamyakumari

Kanyakumari (India) - I arrived the day before. Early in the morning I naturally head for the sea. In less than 5 minutes I am in the fishermen's quarter. I take a low-key approach. A camera around my neck, but without taking pictures, just to see the reactions of the locals. People seem rather surprised to see me in their neighborhood. A good morning here, a smile there.

The rain starts again and the woman who had just waved me a little welcome suddenly starts running for shelter. I just have time to trigger.
