Today was absolutely crazy. One Direction was in Washington D.C. for a concert. Meg is obsessed with One Direction, so even though we didn't have tickets to the concert, Meg, Alisha, and I went into D.C. to stand outside their hotel because the last time they were in D.C. they went out and saw the sights, so we figured we might be able to meet them. Yup. So that happened first. When it was confirmed that they were at the venue, we left the hotel and walked toward the venue. At this point, Alisha left to go home. The concert venue was a stadium (as it was their stadium tour) so Meg and I figured that even though we didn't have tickets, we could still hear the concert. We walked around the venue in order to check if we could see backstage and possibly see the boys. We met an awesome security guard that told us he'd let us hang around as long as we made it look like we were just walking around and mingling and whatnot, so as to not get him in trouble with his boss. The concert started, the opening act (5 Seconds of Summer, or 5SOS) finished, and Meg and I walked toward the loading dock to see if we could catch a glimpse of them as the loading dock was directly behind the stage. We saw 5SOS on their bikes so Meg and I waved. The drummer, Ashton came toward us saying that he didn't have long, but he wanted to come over and say hi. His signature accessory is a bandana and Meg made him one a long time ago, but brought it today just in case. She was finally able to give it to him and meet him in person. At that point he went backstage and by then, a crowd was beginning to form. After deciding if that actually happened (which it did, I have photos) we headed back toward our spot with the security guard. About 45 minutes later, as we were standing there, a girl and her father came up to us. He explained that they were leaving and we could have their ticket that they didn't use. We declined because there were two of us and only one ticket, to which he pulled out one of their used tickets and told us that we could try and use it, that maybe it would scan again. I noticed that they were field seats, which you need a wristband for and in order to track who got the wristband, they tear a little bit off the ticket. I caught his attention and asked if we could have his wristband, as the used ticket had been torn already. He couldn't get it off his wrist, but his daughter was able to and she gave it to us. Our security guard friend was really cool and let this all happen. We ran over, Meg got her wristband and we headed for the gates. Another security guard saw my camera, which is not allowed because it has a removable lens. I was saying everything I could to let us get in. I would take the battery out. Take the lens off. Whatever. They told me I could check it and while all this was happening, Meg's ticket was not scanning. Somehow, we switched tickets and she had the used one. The people scanning the tickets asked us where we got the tickets and why we were late and stuff like that. Meg was freaking out, so I started lying my ass off. We were gonna get in. I told them we got the tickets online and that we had gotten lost walking to the arena. They scanned my ticket and said to go through the turnstile. I did, but I was not moving without Meg. They tried her ticket again but finally gave up and just opened the gates for her to get in. We checked my camera and headed to our seats. We were on the field. So close to the stage. It was unreal. As soon as we go to our seats, I took this photo. We should not have gotten into the concert. But somehow, we did. And it was awesome.

Grace and One Direction!

This 1 Direction band cake took center stage for Alahna'a birthday. Red velvet cake with cream cheese Swiss meringue icing was absolutely delicious on a hot summer day. Lights around the stage and lighting up the the guys.

My oldest daughter has started her swimming lessons. For me it presents the choice between hanging around the overly heated pool ( we're not allowed to watch, well only every third lessen) or taking my camera for a walk. Not very much interesting subjects around which forces me to look closer. Quite challenging :-)
