The Conservatory Wind Symphony, directed by Steven D. Davis, performed the first Conservatory Artist Series concert of the 2018–19 academic year on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. This concert include faculty guest artist Thomas Rosenkranz performing Stravinsky's Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments. Also performed was R. Strauss: Festmusik der Stadt Wein and Hindemith: Mathis der Maler.

Direct Pipe® in action
The process combines the advantages of microtunnelling and horizontal drilling technology (HDD). In just one work step, a prefabricated pipe can be installed without a trench and the required borehole can be created at the same time. This ensures that pipelines with lengths of over 1,500 meters can be laid quickly and very economically.
A clever combination of two technologies
The soil is excavated from the starting pit with a liquid-assisted Herrenknecht microtunnelling machine (AVN). It transports the spoil over a conveyor circuit within the prefabricated pipeline to a separation plant. The pipeline, which is laid out on roller blocks above ground and welded to the machine, is pushed into the borehole created at the same time as drilling. A pipe thruster provides the necessary propulsive power. It presses the microtunnelling machine together with the pipeline with a thrust of up to 750 tons in strokes of 5 meters. The force is transmitted to the pipeline via the clamping unit of the pipe thruster and via this to the drill head of the machine. During the advance, the face can be driven using fluid-supported tunneling technology even with heterogeneous, permeable soils are permanently and reliably controlled. Gradients and slopes as well as precise cornering in the course of the route can be carried out with control systems (UNS).
