When I was a kid I used to see posters for this 'Direct Boot' placed on billboards all over the local area, and wonder (marvel might be a bit strong a word) about this temple of boots, work clobber and embroidery located far away up the Hertford Road with their non-London number (every builder, scaffolder and track dog retirement kennel in the land has an 01992 number - FACT). With it's work-centred line in steel toecaps and hard hats It had a 'big grown up' element that kids often find a bit hazy and mysterious, if not always appealing. Something to worry about in the future, not now.
When I eventually stumbled across the place a couple of years ago I was a bit disappointed - it's just a normal sized shop at the front, though it does open up out back (as I found out later). What was I expecting? In hindsight I'm not sure, but the legend of their slightly naff adverts live on. Why waste a good shirt by embroidering 'Your Business Name Here' across the front for your adverts when you can clipart a bit of text saying the same onto an image of someone wearing a plain shirt? Doing away with frivolities like that is a surefire way of keeping costs down, and since they're going after all this time it's obvious it's working for them. So, yeah, more power to them.

The original plan for that area of the building by its architect, Sir Basil Champneys, was to include three niches to accommodate sculptures. Enriqueta Rylands approached John Cassidy (1880 -1939), who was responsible for the statue of her husband, to prepare a design to occupy this important position. Cassidy received the commission and agreed to, "complete a group of three figures in red shawk stone for £300, adapting all sketches and models to Mrs Ryland's 'entire approval'." "Theology Directing the Labours of Science and Art" was installed in February 1898. The finishing touches were completed in July of that year. The web site of the Public Monument and Sculpture Association's National Recording Project describes this sculpture as: "Three figures; theology is represented by a standing female figure holding in her left hand a volume of Holy Writ, and with her right hand she directs Science, who is depicted as an old man studying a globe. Art is shown as a youthful metal worker who is making a chalice, and is depicted in the act of listening to Theology."

Pese a oponer resistencia en la primera parte, los periodistas sucumben 5-1 en el estadio Cuauhtémoc.
El estadio Cuauhtémoc fue testigo de la convivencia entre el cuerpo técnico y directiva del Puebla FC con los representantes de los medios de comunicación, en un partido amistoso que terminó 5-1 a favor de los mandamás del Puebla FC.
Con dos tantos de Jesús López Chargoy, directivo del Puebla FC, un par del preparador físico Rodrigo Eugui y uno más de Román Cruz, el Puebla Región 4 se llevó la victoria. Mientras que por parte de la Prensa anotó Julio Chávez
Así, con un sol intenso, el partido se caracterizó en los primeros minutos por ser muy ríspido y peleado, pero con el paso del tiempo, Puebla Región 4 se fue acomodando en el rectángulo verde para hacerse con el dominio del balón.
De la mano de Héctor Hugo Eugui, quien tomó la batuta del encuentro y le dio forma a su equipo, los locales anotaron primero, pero la garra y corazón que mostraron los representantes de la Prensa les ayudaron a conseguir el tanto del descuento para dejar la pizarra en los primeros 35 minutos por 2-1 a favor de los anfitriones.
En tanto, el calor hizo de las suyas en el rendimiento de los jugadores de la Prensa, quienes regalaron la media cancha, lo cual aprovechó el Puebla Región 4 para marcar los tres tantos definitivos. Al término del encuentro la directiva, cuerpo técnico y administradores invitaron a los representantes de los medios de comunicación a compartir el pan y la sal dentro de la grama del dos veces mundialista estadio Cuauhtémoc.
“Es un partido de convivencia, ya que nosotros siempre hemos mencionado que los medios de comunicación son una parte fundamental para el equipo del Puebla y esto nos sirve mucho para integrarnos, para que se sientan parte del grupo”, declaró López Chargoy.
Por su parte, Héctor Hugo Eugui dijo que el objetivo de la cascarita de fútbol es romper el hielo entre el equipo y los medios de comunicación, “es un partido para convivir, para conocerlos a todos y creo que el objetivo se cumplió”, sentenció el director técnico de los Camoteros.
