The name of this house is Villa Lugnet, where "lugnet" means calmness in Swedish. And you can indeed feel the calmness of past times in this kitchen that has barely been modernized since 1936.

We had lunch at this fabulous ancestral home-turned-restaurant yesterday. Each table had its own little bell for calling your personal server. We didn't have to use ours though because, apart from getting our food, she was in the room with the us the entire time.
....like today. Cyclone Thane to reach Tamilnadu by friday morning.

We do like food. We're not religious, but if there's one thing in our family that comes close to holiness--it's food. It's not the strickt restrictive kind of religion, it's the feast / joy / togetherness kind of religion. We almost never eat any meal alone, and often have friends for lunch or dinner. We seldomly have a fancy table (it distracts from the food!), but we do like a colourful table.

Not a whole lot of creativity on my part today. Just a picture of my kitchen table. Today was all about getting the shot for the day quickly. Quick, quick, quick! I tell myself that if I'm going to do this for 365 days some days it is going to have to be about quick, yes? So instead of devoting time to finding something interesting (to me) to shoot, I took took a nap with my dogs instead. And it was gooooooood.
I love this space -- it feels rustic yet chic and well-edited. No red-and-gold Provencal tablecloths and curtains and seat cushions, thank you! Not that those are entirely bad. They have their place -- in Provence.
Design by Mimmi O'Connell, the Italian-born, London-based interior designer known for her 'fusion' looks. She was one of the first to bring Chinese furniture to the UK in the 1970s, and a forerunner in mixing rustic, country, and antique Asian furniture in a modern way, pairing 200-year-old tables and chairs with linen upholstery and European art.

My brother Doug and I made a visit to southeastern Pennsylvania on October 5 - 8, 2016. We stayed three nights at the Victorian Rose Bed & Breakfast in Mount Joy, a small city between Harrisburg and Lancaster. This is the dining table set up for breakfast on our last morning at the inn. I know nothing about this dining room except that (a) it exists in a luxury condo in "The Heights" (Brooklyn?), (b) it was designed by Coburn Architecture, and (c) I love it.
The afternoon sun again ... this time illuminating an early supper. The wine? A birthday gift to Tal from the folks on the Grande Caribe. It made it home safely in Tal's luggage! Yay.
