A St. Helena, California kitchen designed by Nicole Hollis.

Photo from nicolehollis.com.

This is located in the Foreign Experts Apartment Building at Shandong University at Weihai, in Shandong Province, China. The glass in the center of the table is a huge lazy susan. Diners rotate it until the dish they want is in front of them.

Although this table is round, one's position at the table is governed by one's rank at the gathering. At the 12 o'clock position - in this case the chair closest to the wall-hanging in the right background - sits the senior person. Opposite her/him at the 6 o'clock position sits the #2 ranking person. #3 sits at 9 o'clock, and #4 at 3 o'clock. Then, clockwise beginning at 1 o'clock, persons are seated by age, eldest ranking highest.

Used some Nik Color Efx Pro that I got from Flypaper...now in addition to making textures, they are creating filters to be used in Nik...so cool and fun! I grew these pretty Paper Whites from a kit I got from Trader Joes!!

For six word story.

On Wednesday, January 13, Amy took me to the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. We had lunch at the charming Tangata Restaurant in the museum. "Tangata" is "mankind" in the Maori language of New Zealand. I loved this tiny rock garden, which was our table's centerpiece! Those long tapering leaves do look like fingers! Check out the restaurant on line ~

Many thanks for every kind comment, fave, your words of encouragement, and the inspiration of your fine photography,

my friends! You make my day every day!

Aren't these chairs gorgeous? They're from Oly Studio, but of course -- home of all things lovely and out of my price range!

What the Domino editors say: "A serious, fluted-leg Gustavian model anchors a ship-shaped crystal confection that's sure to be a conversation piece. (Word to the wise: To keep this 50 lb. caravel from crashing, secure well!)"

Chandelier: 25" x 14" x 38" "Crystal Ship," $799, zgallerie.com.

J'adore this dining room! Former Cottage Living editor Anne Turner designed it as part of a makeover of her 1940s Birmingham, Alabama home. The walls are painted Sierra Night by Pratt & Lambert. Close matches are Green Gables by EarthPaint, Kelp Forest by California Paints, La Fonda Territory Green by Valspar, and Vintage Vogue by Benjamin Moore.

Dining table and chandelier are vintage (the latter is 1940s). Chairs from Zentique. Floors are Lumber Liqudators' 2 1/4" white oak select stained with half formula of Special Walnut.

9th January 2019:

Graham was out for most of the morning and I was trying - without success to access Flickr. I gave up and did some other things instead.

Not long after Graham got home Izzy sat on the table in the sunshine we had. It didn't last long but was lovely to see.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

Elegant yet playful, and I love the mirrored white buffet -- so versatile and pretty in this lovely dining room. "Ava" buffet from worlds-away.com.

Bonkers wondering if I was done taking pictures and would I pay attention to him already?

Here are his chunky and dirty legs. Hehe. They always get this filthy (or worse) after an afternoon of play.

Sadly, I made a whole lot of use of the healing brush in Photoshop while i was processing this shot. He's got tons of mosquito bites on his legs (they *LOVE* him). I do put insect repellant but the minute I forget, they go right for him. It really freaks me out, because malaria is a problem here.

~ yes you are right {again}... this is one of the many pictures of our breakfasts... photographed from the gallery part of our little loft {cannot help it... just find it so awesome that I can climb the stairs and snap a shot of our dining table!} days ago but have been recently posting so incredible little compared to all I shoot or the work that I do... anyways...

~ this is something typical for us ~>

~ early morning sunrays... checking mails... magazine reading...

~ breakfast for the two of us with the luxury of time...

... me working mostly from home & him at his office, I feel so happy that the location of our current home is convenient for that... would really miss such mornings if it was otherwise...

~ one of the major factors for deciding for our new home is to keep on enjoying such breakfasts together, which dictates a certain location range

~ in some time, there'll be news about the subject to share!...

~ for now, I'm enjoying to the latest minute and detail all that I have adored in our little place & the neighbourhood that surrounds it...

~ hope you all had delightful weekends & that a great, new week is ahead of us! xx

London designer Harriet Maxwell Macdonald devised this sun-filled turret to lighten a row of fitted cabinets lacquered in deep maroon (hidden from view in this photo). Faint-green walls (William Morris's Loam) soften the contrast, while natural linen shades with a lavender print pick up the heather tones of the nearby living room and hall.

I love the Baker table and look of this room.

What the Domino editors say: "Stepped circles—the table's narrow base and generous top, plus the two-level antiqued-brass fixture—telegraph a nonlinear intimacy that establishes an airy feel in small quarters."

I just love the madness of this place.

Love the light/dark contrast—and the fabulous mid-century Norman Cherner chairs—in this Los Angeles bungalow kitchen designed by Cristine Gillespie. She owns the house, too—lucky her!

Gillespie paired a burnished antique farm table with the Cherner plywood chairs, a classic 1958 design (check out www.chernerchair.com). The Viking dishwasher is the only thing I would do differently—I’d go for white over stainless steel. But who wants to nit-pick?

All my bookshelves are full of books and there isn't any space in the house to add more – but I still keep buying more books so they end up on the dining table. Happily, there's still enough room for me to eat my meals but I need to get a bit more organised.

Designer Suzanne Kasler: "This is a gorgeous peony pink, with a bit of raspberry in it. That undertone is what keeps it from looking sickeningly sweet. It's a happy, cheerful color that makes everyone look younger. Even the house!"

...mini wooden, handpainted, magnetic frames, bought in Valldemossa's "Lovely Mallorca", put in use today, to spice up a rather dull potato/carrot soup lunch for two, who are recovering from sickness...

The simple things in life are the most enjoyable....

...hadn't it been for life's difficulties and unpleasant sides, how would we be able to appreciate all the bliss in it?

"Entertaining is what Palm Beach is all about," says designer Gary McBournie. Everything white, including a sideboard from Lars Bolander and vintage Chinese Chippendale chairs, makes a crisp contrast to custom-glazed duck-egg-blue walls. Though new, the Dennis & Leen chandelier was found in a Palm Beach antiques shop: "It was probably too large for someone's house. But here, it fills that void at the center of the room and gives it character."

The deliciously enviable dining room of Raji Radhakrishnan, a self-taught Washington D.C.-based designer. The art deco dining table and chairs (from an estate sale) are amboyna wood, a Southeast Asian burl. She found the Gio Ponti console table on maisonettoi.com; it holds Claes Oldenburg’s “Geometric Mouse." The midcentury painting is by Tom Hayward. The setees are vintage. She found the chandelier, candlestick and vase (on console) on maisonettoi.com. The curtain fabric is by Jim Thompson and the rug is from J. Asher Carpets.

With just two of us, I seldom prepare any festive looking food. I picked up a small cheese and fruit platter at the grocery store this morning along with a box of crackers, a bottle of sparkling cider and a half-price balloon; now we are set for snacks this New Year's Eve.

Menta e rosmarino

Cadono giù stalle - stelle

Lacrima (il) tramonto

Gocce di luce dagli occhi

Nella notte cieca

È qui che a casa mia ormai ritorno

C'incontreremo stasera

Menta e Rosmarino

Che ho preso a calci le notti

Per starti più vicino

Amor, d'amor sia l'amor perduto!!

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi male ti amai

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi vivo t'amai

Cadono giù stalle - stelle,

E una monetina,

I miei pensieri in farfalle dentro la mattina

È qui che a casa mia ormai ritorno.

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi male ti amai

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi vivo ti amai

Con l'anima in piena

Mi sgominai

Mi smemorai.

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi male ti amai

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi vivo ti amai

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi male ti amai

I feel so lonely tonight

Se per farmi vivo ti amai

E t'amo ancora

an Asian-inspired table for dining while sitting on floor pillows ... can also be used as a coffee table. Tim made the bloodwood sushi plates and chopsticks, and the ebony chopstick rests. I bought the sake set and floor cushions in Seattle. He is selling the table and place settings as a set. We hope someone buys this during the exhibit. I love it (but we don't have room in our tiny house - too bad)

In addition to visiting my mom in Canada to help her in her recovery from surgery, this is what I have been spending my time doing for the last few weeks: helping my husband, Tim, and the members of the Helena Woodworkers' Guild prepare their annual Art of Wood exhibit in Helena, Montana. Every year this exhibit gets better -- this year the woodworkers have outdone themselves. If you are in the neighborhood, please drop by - the show will be up for the entire month of November at the Myrna Loy Center. Check out the Guild website for more information and updates on the exhibit. Our opening reception will be Nov. 9th from 6 to 10 pm during the Downtown Helena Fall ArtWalk. Lots of great food, live music and beautiful furniture to look at. Plus the artists will all be attending the reception. Come meet our Helena woodworkers.

Bit excessive for beans on toast and just the two of us I thought, but didn't like to tell my wife so.

[Christmas at Castle Howard, North Yorkshire. The House reopens to the public for a few weeks each year just prior to Christmas to be seen in its decorated glory. Castle Howard was the setting for both TV & Film productions of Brideshead Revisited]

Soft aqua paired with over-sized beige flowers give this pattern a fresh twist on cottage style. It’s perfect in a dining room, paired with simple wainscot. I'm not usually one for matching curtain fabric, but it feels playful and fun here, don't you think? You can't go wrong with blue and white, especially when it's aqua...

I tried out a Panton chair the other day, and oh! So comfortable! Now I want a pair, of course. I'd tuck them under a traditional table -- maybe something farmhouse, like in this photo from Design Public.
