These are the first colored infantry troops to be used in combat in this theater. 15th April, 1944.

Digitized from a long-lost slide film. The Kodak camera in the photo was in the same box and I have it now. What a great way to remember mom and her photo taking.

I do this work from time to time for seniors who want their valuable photos digitized and restored for postairity.

- The PALACE HOTEL [1911] situated on the south side of Great Eastern Highway is in the left background of pic.
- The historic Fraser's open cut gold mine [c.1888] is located directly next to the township of Southern Cross, just south of the Great Eastern Highway. The mine was not greatly productive [compared to Coolgardie & Kalgoorlie-Boulder mines] & has since been abandoned & is currently full of water [see Google Street View link below].
