Page through the PDF one page at a time, adding bookmarks for each chapter or major section of the book., and rotate any pages that are not right side up.

This goes faster than you would think, since you can page through the book nearly as fast as your finger can press the 'PgDn' button, then page back when you notice a chapter change or rotated page. I completed this step in about 6 minutes for my 496 page book which had 12 Chapters, 3 Parts, 2 Appendixes, and an Index.

On May 22, 2024, I paid a new visit at the « Centre d'histoire de la résistance et de la déportation » (www.chrd.lyon.fr), in Lyon, France, for the last week of a temporary exhibition related to the life of Jean Moulin (1899-1943) .

On this occasion, I brought along my Kodak Retina IIa camera loaded with a CineStill-XX (rebranded Kodak Eastman Double-X). This film is produced by Eastman Kodak in the U.S.A. since 1959 (Eastman Ref. 5222/7222 250D/200T) for motion pictures filming.

It is recommended to expose the film for 250 ISO in the daylight and 200 ISO under a tungsten light. The Retina IIa Schneider-Kreuznach lens 1:2 f=50mm was equipped for all the views of an adapted metal FOCA shade hood designed in France for the FOCA Oplar 1:3,5 f=3,5cm lens. For all the outdoor views except the last view of the film, the lens was also fitted with a FOCA Yellow filter x2.5 (exposition for 100 ISO to compensate the filter light absorption). Indoor, this yellow filter was replaced by a protective FOCA AUV filter .

Expositions were determined using a Minolta Autometer III equipped with a 10° finder for selective measures privileging the shadow areas. Focusing was done either using the camera range finder, or, when the contrast was too weak, an external LASER meter to evaluate the distance that was reported on the lRetina ens distance scale.

The film was processed using Adox Adonal developer at dilution 1+25 for 5min45 min at 20°C. After process the film was digitized using a Sony A7 body and a Minolta Slide Duplicator with a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Macro Bellow Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures. All views (plus some smartphone documentary pictures) of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg.

About the camera :

I found this Kodak Retina IIa camera from my local photography store on August 5, 2023, Lyon, France.

Kodak Retina IIa camera's were manufactured in Stuttgart, Germany, in the years 1951 to 1954. The IIa is equipped with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens 1:2 f=50mm and at Synchro-Compur shutter operating from 1s to 1/500s. The IIa version of Retina camera's has also a range finder coupled to the focusing helicoid.

The principle of Retina camera's are the folding lens with a bellow to give a very compact body when folded. The Kodak Retina IIa is a beautiful piece of manufacture, typical of best photographic German industry. The camera was serviced in December 2023 to adjust the range finder and to clean/repair the focusing helicoid and to service the Compeer shutter.
