We spent the long weekend in Sydney to see The 'Vivid Sydney" light show this year.

What can I say! What a spectacular show.

Every summer I see a large bus full of Mennonite travelers from the lower 48 states. The buses usually stop at "The Hub" gas station in Glennallen, to let the traveler's avail their selves of the porta potties, as well as the snack foods that can be purchased inside of the station. They must enjoy their Alaskan tour, as more arrive each year.

Digital filter play abstractifying architect Frank Gehry's already amorphous shell around Seattle's Experience Music Project building. It's already a beautiful unique structure in its own right, but I love playing with digital image manipulation and just can't seem to leave well enough alone!

Or: A Little Help From My Friends

I almost never work with the blur tool but yesterday I saw a rather wonderful image posted by Dana Marostega, a.k.a. "13 skies". He was kind enough to share how he did it and got me experimenting with motion blur. His is a lovely image of a city street scene and while I did try that I found I wanted to do something other than being a copycat.

After stumbling through a number of photographs and making a wretched mess of things....basically mud pies.....I tried using a photo of a glass wall of windows. Anyway, after about a gazillion different steps I came up with this. You just might have guessed by now either I have too much time on my hands lately or I don't sleep very well.

Or both.

Yet another swirling spacey abstract from the remnants of my stolen vehicle. Mostly swirl, bulge, scattered tiles, water, and solar flare filters mixed to taste using an old version of the ACDSee digital photo manipulation software.

Crazy little light storm passed through the area earlier.

Warm evening

Just two short months ago, the snow was still piled high around our cabin. But in the past couple of weeks the temperatures have soared in Alaska, and Doc and I are melting.

By early evening our temperatures are between 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and they don't start dropping until around three am, when it becomes a more comfortable 50 degrees.

Since I am aware that many of my family and friends in the lower forty-eight states are also suffering through extreme heat - I thought a winter scene might help.

In this photo you see the corner of a cabin, with wood stacked beside it, a stocked cache, and an outhouse in the background. Everything close by and handy on a cold winters' night - and "Home Sweet Home" to the old trapper that lives there.
