Life along the Yukon River hasn't changed all that much since the Gold Rush Days. Other than the outboard motor seen on the boat in my image - this photo could have been taken a hundred years ago. It's nice to see that change takes place very slowly in the far north.
*(I captured this image looking toward the north/northwest, from the east side of the river near Dawson City. * Note: The first outboard motor was patented in 1880.)

The snowbirds...
This image of the famous flying squadron was taken in 2014 close to Niagara Falls against a bleached-out, hazy, gray-white sky.
The camera settings are for the lighter of the two cloud formations in the image.
This image is made-up of five layers. 2 cloud layers and 3 editing layers (transparencies) of the flight group formation which was kept intact.
Since last November - our temperatures have been below zero almost every day. When cabin fever sets in and the chores are done - I happily escape into my own little dream world. In this image I was dreaming of rain drops and warm weather.
Being of German descent, it has always been a tradition to have birds on our Christmas tree's. It was said that they bring "happiness and joy" to the household.
Over the decades I have held onto the old frazzled birds of my ancestors - and I drag them out each year and place them on our tree's. Who am I to mess with tradition - and possibly miss out on my "happiness and joy".

And indeed, what is better than to sit by one's fireside in the evening with a book, while the wind beats against the window and the lamp is burning?
