. . . and walking to the light. A feeling many share after being made to "shelter in place" due to the corona virus.
(Again you see a portion of my backyard mountains.)
A light rain began to fall as this angler decided to call it a day and head home. Nearby a big brown bear was making his way to the waters edge in search of a meal. It was then that we decided to head back to the little town of Haines, and treat ourselves to a nice halibut dinner. If you have never visited Haines Alaska - I really think you should put it on your bucket list. You won't be disappointed.

The plane is a flying B-25 bomber which I turned into a silhouette and then dropped as a shadow.
I got the idea after observing the behavior of geese toward anything other than being chased on foot. The choice of plane stemmed purely out of a personal interest in vintage airplanes. All other birds and animals do react to the level of sound and/or looming, moving shadows from above.

This image of an ice encapsulated juniper in my garden looked a lot less dramatic in the original due to the out of focus areas of the body of the tree which is now the black negative space. The approach taken gives the image an almost studio controlled setting quality... The title chosen, for those who don't know, makes reference to the fact that juniper berries are used in the making of gin.
The already intense light and scorching heat of this sunrise is depicted here through the use of two combined images (b&w and color).

My chives have gone to seed - but they sure look pretty.

Thanks to all for your kind words, views, and fave's - much appreciated.
I love the lush forests in southeast Alaska. There are some species of Sitka spruce and Western hemlock that are over 800 years old. And it’s not just the largest national forest in America, it’s also the world’s largest remaining temperate rainforest. Another nickname this mighty forest has earned is the “Amazon of America.” Home to countless species of wildlife from bears, to bald eagles, and whales off the coast, this area is rich with animal, marine, and plant life. The Tongass National Forest is one of the most beautiful old growth forests left on the planet - and I am so grateful that Doc and I were able to spend six years living and playing in such beautiful surroundings.
With subzero temperatures just outside of my cabin door this morning - I thought it might be a good time to play with Wombo and other photo software, to create the serenity of a cold Alaskan night.
Wishing everyone a peaceful week ahead.
Hoar frost has been moving in the past few days, and will soon cover everything that is exposed. This lonely cabin stands awaiting its frosty coating.

Every winter I swear that this old lodge will fall down under the snow weight - and every year I am wrong. The building is sway back and is sinking into the ground - but each spring the snow melts, and there she be! An old rhubarb bed springs to life beside her, and around the month of July, some folks from out-of-state show up - pull the plywood from the doors and windows, and move in for a month or two. How they deal with the small critters that take up residence inside that lodge each winter - I do not know. That will remain a mystery until either an earthquake or snow destroys the old landmark. Until then - I'll keep watching it, until there is nothing more to watch.
