A while back, SkullStore.ca had a really cool didactic skull available for sale, and it made me want to draw it. The piece was showcasing layers of the skull, their thickness, and they were held in place with transparent acrylic rods.

I went ahead with RetroSupply Co's blotty inker, which you can grab from a number of their sets: the liner brush pack, the mid-century brush pack, or the mid-century brush bundle.

The piece took me a long time, due to personal events. Finishing it was pretty cathartic.

Today I made my first book available to patrons on Patreon. Each year I decide upon a project for the whole year. Sorta like a drawing-a-day. This year I decided to create artists books one each month. These fit on a single sheet of paper. 8.5 x 11 inches, letter-sized US.

I'm making the whole collection available for download as they are completed. I expect to have a collection of 12 books one each month.

The first book is a selection of digital drawings I made for my 2020 project called Digital Ink. This one includes a poster backside that can also be printed separately.

The collection of books is titled Foldable Dispatches and book one is titled Digital Ink.

I made a few posts about progress and share a video of how to fold and cut. The posts are public although patrons get early access.

If you are interested in having the collection you can become a patron at any level. Thanks for taking a look.

Day 31 of my 31 prompts from 31 lists Drawtober!!

Today's is "Witch" from IG artist fabulosaurus_lex 's Plaguetober list

A witch and plague doctor mix seems the perfect send off. I did it! I had a lot of fun but... I think now I might need a break

I am fascinated by raven skulls. I drew a few already (#1, #2). I decided to give it another go, using some of RetroSupply's great liner brushes this time around.

The goal was to lighten up the shading compared to prior executions, while still retaining volume definition. The brush used throughout is the RSCo classic inker.

Happy belated Thanksgiving wishes to all Canadian flickr’ites, hope you had a wonderful holiday with family and friends. lots a’ turkey and stuff, eh! yea, me too.

a little something I brought home from the Farmer’s Market at City Centre, a great place to get fresh supplies for Thanksgiving Dinner, everything from vegetables to fruit to flowers. meat, poultry, fish, you name it, they’ve got it, all locally grown and produced. it doesn’t get much better than that.

while searching for sweet potatoes, this little gem caught my eye. just love those autumn colours, those special tones that only happen at this time of the year, of course I had to take it with me and when it was decorated with a red ribbon and candles, it became a perfect centrepiece for the dinner table.

thanks for stoppin’ by. have a happy day!

a low angle, so you can see the shoes! too bad you can't see all of them though - they have a chunky mary-jane strap with a big dark purple button. overall a pretty normal outfit, but i liked the summery colors.

wed, march 14:

- yellow (mustard?) jacket: f21

- scoopneck button-down blouse: h&m

- citizen jeans

- magenta/purple suede mary-janes: by pink studio, from ambiance in SF

- wood bangle: store in philly

New York City, 2009

Union Square. Photo: Raymond.

Procreate is one of my favorite drawing apps for iOS. Its basic brush collection has some gems. The 6B pencil, along with the tinderbox inking brush, are what gave me these results.

A while back, someone shared this buried skull they found while weeding. I bookmarked it, knowing I'd revisit it.

I first did a pencil pass, thinking I'd stop there. I'm aware that a mushroom would not likely feature roots as shown, but frankly, who cares. I then kept playing with the basic inking brushes in Procreate, and very quickly ended with the inked version. I added a layer for subtle shading using the same 6B pencil brush, et voilà, inked cat skull.

best wishes for the festive season!

Here's a little illustration I had fun with done for my little girl's school. It was made to encourage parents to include re-usable cutlery in their kids lunches to minimize the plastic cutlery handed out by the school crew at lunch. This was my contribution to help out. Apple pencil and Procreate, great match for inking!

Today's is "Silent Mist" from IG artist maruti_bitamin

Since I've already done Silent Hill fanart twice this month I opted for a nice and simple spooky ghostie.

Brooklyn, New York, 2008

Kate and Ray at Gleason's Gym.

An average snapshot dolled-up in Picnik via the "Polaroid" frame application. I had a shot of Ray flipping me the bird, his favored pose when I try to shoot him, but he deleted it when he "just wanted to take a look" at my shots. I should have known his chimping would lead to no good!

(from) Brookyln, New York, 2009

Ray was selling his Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens, so I bought it from him during my trip to New York City this past weekend.

We were on our way to Belmont Park to shoot the horse races and paused to get some shots of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and for me to practice my first (relatively successful) attempts at panning.

Philadelphia, 2007

Graham, Anderson, Probst and White's 1933 30th Street Station features a pretty darn fabulous main passenger concourse.

Thanks to low, low airfares (at least for winter travel), I was able to snag a round-trip, non-stop LAX-Philadelphia airfare for a trip in March. Why on earth would I be traveling to Philadelphia in winter? Because a friend and former co-worker asked me to come and be the photographer at his daughter's Bat Mitzvah reception (coincidentally, that will fall on my birthday), that's why! At first, I was nervous, thinking I was also photographing the ceremony itself. But Steve clarified I'd be there just for the reception and perhaps the day prior for some portrait shots of him and the family at the synagogue.

I went to my go-to camera tips guy, [ raymond ], and he offered me some frank and helpful advice, as always. So I'm going to bring two cameras (mine and, I hope, my sister's -- she's also got a Rebel), a wide angle lens for crowd and dance shots, and a longer lens for speeches. I smiled when I read his admonishment: "[L]eave your bokeh at home!" Ha! Of course, the macro lens is coming with me, I'll be using that for detail shots out by Independence Hall, etc., when I'm poking around on my own. I've got my flash already, and Steve has a tripod, so I'm just about set.

Well, Ray did tell me I ought to just buy a 24-70mm lens, rather than rent it. We'll see about that. =)

San Francisco, 2007

I just missed nailing the focus on this, but I still rather adore it. I was sitting directly behind this woman and her companion as we traveled down Market Street on a streetcar. I was fascinated with her wrinkled skin and the big fur she was wearing (not being a member of PETA, I didn't throw red paint on her, heh). And it wasn't until I reviewed the thumbnail later that I realized I'd captured that wild smile. I'm pretty sure she realized I had taken her photo, but she didn't say anything in her French-accented English. Perhaps before long I'll work up more courage to ask people outright to pose.

Anyway, this opportunity reminded me of some of the nifty street portraits my friend ray does so well.

This color study was done to test RetroSupply Co.'s Mr. Marker brushes. The line work is executed using the bullet marker brush, and the color work using the round marker brush.

There's a pinch of texture work on top using the #collageretreat freebies, for a pinch more depth.

In keeping with my "Dragonfly" photo's today, I was reminded by Raymond, www.flickr.com/photos/digitalink/ about Louis Tiffany, but, this is a knock off!

Thanks Raymond!
