The Dark Knight Rises!

There’s always something going on at Dundas Square and on this particular day, the Batmobile took centre stage. What an awesome mechanical creation, especially designed for the king of crime fighters and on display just in time for the latest installment of The Dark Knight series. It certainly attracted a crowd.

The specs are impressive. Designed and built by renowned fabricator George Barris, it features a custom crafted body, bullet proof glass, six monster tires and every imaginable gizmo under the sun to assure that all obstacles are overcome and Batman arrives at his destination to apprehend the bad guys. Cool!

Greetings from Toronto. Our City Icon, The CN Tower bathed by the light of a spectacular harvest moon.

thanks for your visit. have a wonderful weekend.

Humber Bay has certainly become one of my favourite places to visit, truly a Jewel on Lake Ontario. Aside from its many natural wonders, Humber Bay has some of the most spectacular architecture and parklands to be found anywhere in the GTA.

This is The Humber Crossing, what a magnificent structure, perfect from every angle, it certainly caught my attention the first time I saw it. What an awesome sight to behold and only steps from mother nature‘s back yard.

At this point, I have explored most of the Adventure Path, The Parklands as well as marked and unmarked trails along both sides of the river. I have come across wildlife and nature that I never knew existed in the midst of our city. It’s been a wonderful experience, one that I’m glad to have captured along the way.

I only have a couple more short sections to explore before completing my journey from Lawrence Avenue in the north to Lake Ontario in the south, sections which I’m planning to finish by the end of this summer. But then again, autumn and all its glory is not too far away and I might just return then to get some snaps of the valley when it’s ablaze with colour.

Now that sounds like a good plan. What do you think.

greetings. good to be back.

thanks so much for keeping in touch while I was away. I'm thrilled to find your messages and invites and will do my best to connect in the next few days.

ps; check out the video link, it’s a little something that I stumbled upon and thought I’d share with everyone. sound on and full screen a must.

enjoy!

Well, I think this is my last Inktober drawing for this year. I managed to get two finished, lol. I don't know if anybody remembers the old gothic TV show 'Dark Shadows' , but after I drew this it reminded me of the vampire Barnabas' true love, Josette. I love that show, lol! It's so campy and fun! It was before my time, but they released the show on dvds and I have the whole series.

it’s a beautiful day in the flickr'verse!

Everything is kind of pissing me off today, so here is John pouting XD

Also I did this faster than usual since I messed around and waited until the last second....

Decided to get some of my drawings printed onto canvas and see how they sell :)

good to be back, missed y’a. a little something to share from my travels.

every picture tells a story and this is no exception. such an enterprising young man, and not a bad player to boot. he set-up in front of his house to perform for the crowd passing by his doorstep. his offer, "I'll play any tune in the book for a buck". what a deal, something I simply could not refuse.

I opened the catalogue of hits and picked "Michelle", my favourite song by the Beatles. he played and sang it to perfection and when he was finished, it was this lady's turn to make her selection. as you can see by his reaction, her pick was not one of his favourites. regardless, being the entertainer he is and despite his struggles, he played it and played it well. very well in fact. the true sign of a pro to be.

bravo young man. well done.

don't you just love it when a snap like this comes along. love the expressions on both. simply priceless!

a special note to all who have invited me to join and participate in their groups, thank you, I'm thrilled to be a member. I'm doing my best to catch up and post, I also know that there are some to which I have not yet replied. my apology. I promise to do so within the near future. but keep those cards and letters comin' folks. always appreciated and welcomed.

ha! hope it makes you smile. have a fantastic summer day.

Here's a skull found in the 1918 edition of the "The American journal of anatomy."

The execution of this piece rests on True Grit Texture Supply's rusty nib inkers (brush #1).

The textures are from the #collageretreat freebies.

One of my favorite musicians of all times, Hubert Félix Thiéfaine, sings this song called "Alligator 427." It's not a fun one: nuclear desolation, end times vibes, and pessimism abound in it. Perfectly in line for my worldview, but also weirdly timely.

Almost a decade ago, I went through that project called Project 52: a new quote-based poster per week, for a full year. Back then, I already drew some skulls, and created one based on this song.

I decided it was time to revisit this skull. The brush used is RetroSupply Co.'s blotty inker, found in their Mid-Century brush bundle.

My first crack at sketching with Digital Ink and Coloring

hi folks, Simon here.

so, who did you expect, Alvin. ha! of course you did, he and Theodore get all the attention. so when I met-up with pixler in cottage country a couple of weeks ago and he offered to take some shots and post them on flickr, I simply couldn't refuse, could I.

today, it’s my turn to shine, my time to be in the spotlight. today I’m the star of the show. lights. camera. action. let the show begin.

thank you. thank you very much...

Procreate is one of my favorite drawing apps for iOS. Its basic brush collection has some gems. The 6B pencil, along with the tinderbox inking brush, are what gave me these results.

A while back, someone shared this buried skull they found while weeding. I bookmarked it, knowing I'd revisit it.

I first did a pencil pass, thinking I'd stop there. I'm aware that a mushroom would not likely feature roots as shown, but frankly, who cares. I then kept playing with the basic inking brushes in Procreate, and very quickly ended with the inked version. I added a layer for subtle shading using the same 6B pencil brush, et voilà, inked cat skull.

Embrace stylish elegance with "Tribal IX", Howlett Design's belly tattoo for SecondLife. A masterpiece of delicate lines and symmetrical shapes, available in four intensity levels from 60% to 90%. Back about a year ago, I got myself an iPad Pro, a Pencil, Procreate, and got to retire my iPad 2 that has served me so well (see the iPad sketches collection I've shared before).

I also got myself the rusty nib brushes by Andrew from True Grit Texture Supply, and boy, do I like them!

The main brush used in the piece is Rusty nib #1. The texture is made with some of Procreate's default brushes (Quoll, Bonobo chalk).

I’m excited to announce my year-long project for 2021 — a small single-sheet artist book/zine collection. This collection will be available to all patrons including the $3/month Studio Journal level. It’s like buying me a cup of coffee each month.

Inspired by numerous single sheet artist's books out in the universe, I have decided to make works that can be digitally shared with my patrons and collectors. I will be creating at least one single-sheet art book each month.

Each month, Patrons will be able to download a book PDF to print and fold at home. Directions and a little video for how to fold it will be posted. You'll be able to see flat views and folded views of the finished book for reference.

The first book is a selection of digital drawings I made for my 2020 project called Digital Ink. This one includes a poster backside that can also be printed separately.

All current Patrons get these new artbooks.

thanks for stoppin’ by, a little something from my summer adventure at the Humber.

enjoy your day!

Rain! A rain brush!! I have all the brushes. All of them.

hi it's Morley, remember me. thanks for stoppin' by.

pixler's away, busy, busy, at the moment. he gave me a list of his friends and contacts and wants to make sure I say hello, let you know that he'll be back soon to catch up. he's also exploring the last section of the Humber one day this week. congrats are in order, that's a great hike. the Humber has become one of his favourite places to snapp off a few, if he gets anything decent, I'm sure he'll share it.

well, that's about all for now. me and the Ms are headin' out to do some exploring ourselves, take a little trek into the woods to gather a few more supplies for winter. autumn's just around the corner, it's never too soon to start stockin' up on gooddies.

love them gooddies.

thanks again. have a wonderful day. before you go, pls press "L", my Ms tells me I look good in black.

It was a spectacular summer day and the first time that I had been to Humber Bay for a long time, it had been a number of years in-fact. Many of you have posted pix from your outings to the Bay and I thought it was about time for me to see what I’ve been missing.

Thanks for the great tip.

I’m absolutely amazed how this area has changed. It has become a Jewel on Lake Ontario. Magnificent Architecture, Stunning Parklands, Awesome Views. But most of all, Humber Bay with its many walkways and nature trails offers a wonderland that must be experienced.

For anyone who loves the outdoors, anyone who loves to walk, hike or bike, it’s fantastic. The Adventure Trail starts at the south-end by Lakeshore Blvd., not far from the Humber Bay Bridge and continues north to Lawrence Avenue. It’s a great walk and if you want to get off the beaten track, there are plenty of opportunities to explore unmarked territory and experience nature at its finest.

I simply love the outdoors and have made it a project for this summer to complete the walk from top to bottom. So far, I’ve been to The Parklands, The Nature Garden, stopped off at The Humber Bay Bridge and hiked along the west side of the Humber River north to Bloor.

There is a photo op at every turn, so if you ever get to visit, make sure you bring your camera. You won’t want to miss this.

For more than two million viewers in the GTA, it’s the perfect way to begin the day, a cup of coffee and BT. What a great combo.

Simply the best place to get caught up on the latest news n’ sports, plan the daily commute, get business, weather, traffic and transit reports and be up to date on all the juicy gossip & whisperings from the world of entertainment. Love that part.

Thanks BT! I’m a fan.

Another skull study, based on a reference by Skulls Unlimited this time around.

The brush used in this uncompleted doodle is RetroSupply Co.'s Mid-Century Magic, and it's a bonus brush in their mid-century brushes.

lil’ bunny sends you special greetings and best wishes for a very Happy Easter. for those who celebrate Passover, all the best to you and yours. enjoy your holidays!

Today I made my first book available to patrons on Patreon. Each year I decide upon a project for the whole year. Sorta like a drawing-a-day. This year I decided to create artists books one each month. These fit on a single sheet of paper. 8.5 x 11 inches, letter-sized US.

I'm making the whole collection available for download as they are completed. I expect to have a collection of 12 books one each month.

The first book is a selection of digital drawings I made for my 2020 project called Digital Ink. This one includes a poster backside that can also be printed separately.

The collection of books is titled Foldable Dispatches and book one is titled Digital Ink.

I made a few posts about progress and share a video of how to fold and cut. The posts are public although patrons get early access.

If you are interested in having the collection you can become a patron at any level. Thanks for taking a look.

Day 9 of my 31 prompts from 31 lists drawtober challenge!

Today is "Flames" from twitter user bitesizedbeetle's Goretober list.

I'm a bit late on this one, but the ER visit yesterday put me a little behind schedule. I hope there are some night owls out there in the void.

A while back, SkullStore.ca had a really cool didactic skull available for sale, and it made me want to draw it. The piece was showcasing layers of the skull, their thickness, and they were held in place with transparent acrylic rods.

I went ahead with RetroSupply Co's blotty inker, which you can grab from a number of their sets: the liner brush pack, the mid-century brush pack, or the mid-century brush bundle.

The piece took me a long time, due to personal events. Finishing it was pretty cathartic.

Just getting to know (and having fun doing it!) the Apple Pencil; who knew drawing could be fun again? I honestly have never found the ipad to be the equivalent of pencil on paper but this is very damn close! I have indulged myself in emulating the look and feel of a blue colerase sketch, my favorite way to sketch in the analog world. Didn't really have any idea of what I wanted to draw initially, my girlfriend just asked for someone knitting and this is what happened. Hope you enjoy! :)

Even traditionally-animated productions often make use of computer software to create many of the visuals, which also streamlines the workflow. Classical Animation students scan and digitally paint their animations, which are then composited with backgrounds and effects.
