Entrance to the 9th Street PATH Station in New York City. I got a little excited when I saw all those pipes overhead. Had to sit and wait a few minutes so those pesky people would be out of my way. ;)
Went to NY last night and met one of my fellow flickr PACtards at a fancy barber shop in Tribeca. Why would I do that? Because they had a little party to showcase some artwork and one of the photographers whose pictures were shown there is also a flickrite. But he wasn't there so I didn't meet him.
After the show my friend and her friend kindly dropped me off by cab at the PATH station. But it was way too nice of a night and too early so I walked around, had 2 hot dogs, looked at used books for sale and finally decided to go home. Was glad that I got to take at least one picture before I made my way back to NJ.
I have to thank this guy. I smell his influence on this shot. If you like this go look at his.

A quick trip after work to a local beach I ofem end up at resulted in some nice diffuse light. I though I would break up the Norway adventures with something a little closer to home. The patterns in the rocks are just fantastic. I used a 3stop nd grad and a polariser with a 0.45 soft grad over the sky.
If you would like further information about the 1 to 1, and small group workshops I run in Cornwall, then please contact me through my website. Links to which are on my profile page. www.flickr.com/people/24562498@N03/
With the Easter break fast approaching, it would be a perfect time to book! I am making 1 year workshop vouchers available too so you can choose the right time.

This is pretty much straight out of camera, except for some toning just to play up the shadows and highlights.
The lovely Dani and Bray, always a pleasure guys!
**Diffuse is hiring! I'm desperate for a competent photog to come join us at Diffuse, I have more work than I can handle right now! If you're an experienced photog who can hold your own artistically and understand the nature of the business (i.e there are slooow weeks and then CRAZY CRAZY weeks) please pop me an IM in world. You do NOT have to be exclusive to us, you just need to be available for appointments.**

despite the fact this shot looks super imposed......it's not, this is my son James standing in front of my cars headlights, up a country lane last winter talking on his mobile!...................View On Black

The rising sun climbing out of the cloud, Claremont Pier, Lowestoft at low tide.
It looks like my new DYI flash diffuser is not effective, or maybe Ms. Ladybug is just so shiny.
Thanks for the view and comments...
I´m still slowly catching up

One more on the last day of National Tree Week...this is one from my 10 mile from home project.
I very nearly didn't even capture this as it had telephone wires running right across it.....thank goodness for the clone tool.

Posed street portrait taken for my 100 Strangers project in Glasgow, Scotland.
This picture is #23 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
I had just been taking the weight off my injured ankle with a lingering sit on the benches in St Enoch Square when I noticed a strikingly beautiful woman taking lunch on the opposite side of the street. I was instantly captivated by her vintage style and was intrigued to know more about her and, of course, get the numbers rolling on my 100 Stranger project again.
Emma was quite flattered to have been asked once I had explained the difference between 'strange' and 'stranger' to her and that I had asked her because she was both beautiful and interesting. Emma was on a lunch break from her 'day job' and had a few minutes to spare and was happy to relocate with me. I chose a side street where we would be out of the harsh direct sunlight, with unusually solid blue skies, and quickly looked for a background that would suit her vintage look. As we relocated I chatted with Emma who told me she is a make-up artist and stylist specialising in vintage eras and that she also dances for a cabaret show in Glasgow.
Emma thoughtfully retouched her lipstick and seemed quite happy to be directed a little as to pose, position and direction during the shoot although she clearly knew how to make the most of her features for the lens.
In retrospect I should have swapped out for my f/1.8 lens for a shallower depth but, this being my first stranger shoot with my new 7D, kept with the f/2.8 Sigma lens that I am more familiar with. I also tested out the new custom dial mode function where I had stored my ideal settings for a stranger street portrait shoot so that I should no longer make a hash of those settings when in a rush with limited time.
Shot on shutter priority at 1/200th with hotshoe mounted flash on high-speed sync. Flash was dialled down to -1 1/3 and fired ETTL at ISO100 with single point AF and partial metering. A diffuser was used on the flash but no reflector as it would have shown on the glasses.
We exchanged cards and I promised to send copies from the shoot to Emma. You can see her work here: www.facebook.com/EmmaLeighMakeUpArtist
A huge thank you to Emma for taking time out for my 100 Strangers project and I hope that she is pleased with the results of the shoot. I also hope that our connection can develop to be mutually beneficial in the future. It was a real pleasure to meet Emma and it was the single most pleasant 'stranger' encounter where she put me at ease for the shoot as much as I hope to put my subjects at ease in front of the lens.
Some more photos from the shoot with the very talented Emilie.
I got some really heavy condense on the lens because of the humidity inside the building at the botanical garden, but it kind of added something to the shot I think.
