ate Arch trail.

Length: 3 miles roundtrip

Difficulty: Moderate

Description: Delicate Arch is the most recognizable arch in Arches National Park, and perhaps anywhere in the world. It also happens to be located along one of the most dynamic hiking trails within Arches National Park. More than 480 feet above the parking lot and trailhead in the valley below, Delicate Arch is hidden in a bowl at the top of one of the park’s famous sandstone fins. Delicate Arch is freestanding, and magnificently alone in the natural sandstone bowl, standing out against the multitude of horizontal planes around it. The arch was once part of the upper section of the fin, until erosion took its toll upon the sandstone throughout the years, and now Delicate Arch is all that remains of that Entrada sandstone formation.

The Delicate Arch Trailhead is located on the Wolfe Ranch turnoff, which is 11.5 miles up the Arches Entrance Road. The right turn to Delicate Arch is advertised at the turnoff, and the trailhead is on the left side of the road, at the ranch. The trail is rugged and steep, especially near the end as it mounts the sloped side of the sandstone fin. Along the way, visitors will pass a pioneer homestead, Ute Indian petroglyphs, an overgrown streambed, throngs of juniper, a smaller arch, and the famous slickrock for which the Moab area is world-famous.

Delicate Arch Trailhead

The trail starts at a fairly large parking lot off the side of the road, passes the old Wolfe Homestead, and then crosses a bridge over Salt Wash.

Wolfe Ranch

This homestead was built by a disabled Civil War vet, John Wesley Wolfe, in 1888 and inhabited until 1910, when the aging owner moved back to Ohio.

Ute Petroglyphs

This panel of rock art is attributed to the Ute culture. In includes a number of bighorn sheep, horses and dogs.

Frame Arch

Frame Arch is next to invisible when compared with the splendor of Delicate Arch just around the corner; most hikers barely even recognize the arch on its own merits. However, Frame Arch is famous for being the perfect window through which to photograph Delicate Arch, and many people use it to frame their shots of its more photogenic sibling, as its name suggests.

Delicate Arch

Delicate Arch has graced many magazine covers, mantle pieces, coffee tables, stamps, license plates, and a variety of other media. It is an international attraction, and has drawn its fair share of abuse over the years, including (now illegal) climbing, and ignorant pyrotechnics.

The difficulty with this image was a steady wind. In order to get depth of field, I had to shoot with 1/4 sec. I had to wait around 25 minutes until the wind stopped long enough. Luckily the grashopper waited for me to capture him on camera.

Surat Gujrat December 25, 2009 If someone is having difficulty in imbibing obedience, commitment, faithfulness, honesty and other these well known human moral values, then one can easily look towards to the Asaram bapu ji followers.

Recently, Gujarat government and some media channels were trying to defame sant sri Asaram bapu ji and his followers on various grounds. All these grounds are coming baseless and without any evidence. Further, when nothing was working for the government and the media channels, Gujarat police went inside the ashram and destroy the ashram property without any reasons.

Many followers were brutally attacked therein and media did a good job in trying to build bad image of the ashram and saint Asaram Bapu. However, ground realities are completely different.

Asaram Bapu followers are doing miracles in serving their guru, Sant Shri Asaram Bapu ji.

As per the latest news from Surat, around 150 Asaram Bapu followers travelled from the Jalgaon to surat on foot. Let me tell you the distance: it is more than 250 kilometers. During the entire journey, these 150 followers created an atmosphere of love and peace. They promoted the preachingâs of well known saints to the local people throughout their journey.

They promoted the benefits of powers of pranayams and bahgwad Geeta to the local people. We all know that pranayam and Bhagwad Geeta are the world;s most powerful sources for living a healthy and peaceful life and these sources are treated as pillars for a society, where there is no space for selfishness and crime.

While travelling 350 kms, these Asaram bapu ji followers has provided more strength to these pillars.

Nation salutes the followers of sant sri Asaram bapu ji for their work.

There are many difficulties with cave photography, and one is that it's difficult to convey any kind of physical scale. The space you see here is a pocket above my head, stretching upward about four or five feet at something like a 45-degree angle. All of Ruby Falls except for the very end is tight.

Ruby Falls is a cave, and people expect caves to have certain formations like what you see here. Scientific types call these things "speleothems," which includes formations like stalactites and stalagmites and fins and straws and such. They tend to form from calcite -- the base mineral that makes up the limestone rock where most caves exist -- that's dissolved in water percolating through the ground and is precipitating back out from dripping water droplets. Not every cave had these formations -- a lot depends on where the cave is relative to the water table -- but Ruby Falls has them, and that makes it pretty.

Until the mid-1920s, Ruby Falls was just a cavity buried deep inside Lookout Mountain with no access point to the outside world, so there is no ancient human history to the cave. People only came to know about Ruby Falls because of there was another cave located below it lower on the mountain. That was the creatively-named Lookout Mountain Cave, and it had a big cave entrance not too far above the level of the Tennessee River. People had been going into Lookout Mountain Cave for thousands of years, but then the railroad builders came along in the first decade of the 20th century and built a railroad tunnel that blocked the old entrance to Lookout Mountain Cave.

In 1928, a local guy named Leo Lambert had the bright idea to drill a new hole down into Lookout Mountain Cave from above and start a tourist business sending people into the cave through an elevator. As he was drilling, though, he encountered an unexpected void above the cave. The void was cramped, only about five feet wide and 18 inches tall in most places, but he decided it'd be fun to crawl back into it to see how far it went. He spent something like 18 hours tracking back a thousand feet into the mountain, where at the very end, he found the massive chamber where Ruby Falls dropped about 145 feet from the ceiling. And so, a tourist trap was born.

Lambert finished his elevator and took his first tour groups into Ruby Falls the very next year. Everybody had to crawl through the same cramped space Lambert had followed at first, but over the next few years, the tour operators dug out the floor and built a sidewalk where people could stand. You can kind of get a feel for how big the space was originally in that last picture I posted. See that lip of rock above the sign that says "Please stop here"? That's the original cave floor.

"The Great Servant Difficulty" was a problem for the middle classes right up to the outset of the first world war ~ indeed the employment of servants was how the middle classes were defined.

Although this "middle class problem" might seem somewhat old fashioned today it was MODERN in the 1890's ~ and the graphic style is getting closer to the Flintsones all the time.

One of the state-restored tour cars.

Due to financial difficulties, a sign of the times really, my favorite manager at my work had to make an emergency move out of the state to his girlfriend's mother's place in North Carolina just yesterday, uprooting the two of them and their son. While he'd never admit it, he was a real big brother figure at my job: always looking out for a lot of us, especially me, and going out of his way to just be helpful & caring. He was well loved by the customers too, as two of them brought in this big expensive sheet cake as a going away present to him.

Good Luck Leslie!

Every year our Rotary Club invites children from St. Dominics - special education centre for children with hearing difficulties - for a couple of hours out on the Bay. Watch the dolphins and have some fun and a saussage sizzle (and sweets...) to finish with. The kids had a great time with thanks to the members and friends that provided the boats.

I had such difficulty lifting the chains to this height. Really admire the strength of the elephant which can bear this weight and yet pull it with as much vigor as a well grown Alsation straining at his chain (like my Jimmy used to).

The rails are pretty narrow and this one split on nailing so here I am re-gluing it. Later on, I bought a small drill bit for this purpose (because I seem to have lost my bit set in a move.)
