It's the first day of diesel operation on the Hemyock line, and Derek is a little less than impressed with the replacement for the trusty former GWR 0-4-2 tank engine that worked the line until yesterday. But instant starting would at least get rid of the super early shift to light the fire to build up steam.

Delivered to BR from the Vulcan Foundry of English Electric in December 1967 as E6011, it was withdrawn in February 2000. Subsequently purchased by GB Railfreight it was placed on the class 73/9 rebuild programme and has emerged as 73969 for use on the Caledonian Sleeper services.

Pembrey in 1962 having been completed at Darlington from a kit of parts after Brush took over Bagnall. After a stint at Glascoed it was sold to dealer Alan Keef from where it was sold to Tarmac and heavily cut down for use of the Jubilee Line extension in London with the name 'Myfanwy'. In 2003 it was purchased for preservation at Foxfield and later moved to Chasewater where a project to reinstate the cab to full height was completed in 2019. It is seen here running during the Industrial Railway Society AGM visit to Chasewater in 2021.

Well now, there was one J.I. Case steam tractor to power the Belleville grain separator but here is a lengthy rack of diesel tractor power all lined up at Dougherty Museum on #287, south of Longmont. It includes a Case diesel tractor further down. The first two are Allis-Chalmers tractors and I can see there are some John Deeres and International Harvester Farmalls down the line. I had to go into overtime to pull the background field, sky and farm from the "California Burning" sky.

Although we toured the museum's inside some time ago in the heat of summer, I surely don't remember the host of tractors inside. This is a heck of a lineup of tractors and there are others scattered elsewhere.

A couple of Saturdays back Dougherty had their end of summer blow out. Boulder County Open Space maintains and opens the museum on summer Fridays and weekends. They moved a load of their antiques outside and into the daylight which was a grand improvement especially for those with cameras. The museum started when Ray Dougherty started to acquire old automobiles. He finally branched out to antique farm equipment and early home entertainment devices.

This was a dandy day and I am glad eDDie jumped me to get down there at 9:00 on the stroke of opening. I was toasted after a couple of hours. Summer t'ain't over. I must have been a little later than dead on time because folks were shuttling to park and around exhibits. My first trek was over to machinery I had yet to encounter this rig, a separator accordingly. From the size of it and I discovered later, it probably functioned better to separate farmers from their money than grain from the chaff. Well, later they cranked it up and tried it out! I bet it took some serious steam power to drive all these doodads.

The last train I photographed in Austria would be the only diesel loco-hauled passenger train I'd see on this trip. This is an REX 21 service (#5856) that originated at Braunau am Inn. Operating on non-electrified rails between there and Friedburg necessitates diesel power, either in the form of DMUs or locomotives. Power for this train is 2016 062, a Siemens EuroRunner. The coaches are CityShuttle cars, which are apparently not long for this world.

And again I have to post something that Piotrek posted last year. Fortunately, our framing was different again, so at least it's not a 1:1 copy.

The title sums up the inspiration for a trip to Germany last year. That is, visiting my sister in NRW, at whom we had a set-off base. The two of us visited some German railway pecularities (Piotrek longer by one week), with particular emphasis on diesel locomotives and mechanical signalling.

Well, we actually have these two features in this picture. It's Monday, July 25 in Klanxbüll in Schleswig-Holstein (more precisely - North Frisia), and the InterCity train no. 2311 from Westerland auf Sylt to Stuttgart is passing the entrance semaphore of the local station, or simply passing loop. At the forefront is a duo of locomotives of the 216 class (the first one number #390), which are becoming rare at DB Fernverkehr, diesel engines of the design dating back to the first half of the 1970s.

I do not want to write more on the circumstances of this photo and the area around, because this is a good reason for another story that surely appears soon. So let's focus on the photo and very intreresting (from Polish point of view) feature - an old entry semaphore installed also on the left track.

About a title. Well, literally everyone knows that the Germans introduced a special killer-offer in the period June - August 2022, a ticket for 9 euros, which entitled to an unlimited number of trips in a calendar month, by means of regional public transport. Therefore, we could travel by S-Bahn, RegionalBahn and RegionalExpress trains, regional buses, all public transport in cities, and even several ferries in the country (I haven't tested this one though). It would be a terminal sin not to take the advantage of such an opportunity.

Paradoxally, the train in the picture is not covered by this promotion, because IC and ICE trains were forbidden fruits for 9ET holders, just same like FlixTrains.

And I'm already awaiting a ticket for 49 euros and the next trip to Germany, longer this year. This is almost certain.

W związku z tym do dyspozycji mamy pociągi S-Bahn, RegionalBahn i RegionalExpress, autobusy lokalne, komunikację miejską w miastach, a nawet kilka promów.
