This is a device I encountered while waling around Hornbake Plaza at UMD and frankly it confused me so much I took a picture of it. After a lot of. digging I found out it was a weather station, just sitting there collecting data. Monitoring tools like this help with understanding climate patterns and their local effects, which supports informed climate action. Aside from that I also discovered a website I never knew about. (weather.umd.edu/) While I can't know if they are using these sensors or not this website, which provides weather forecasts, is run by the American Meteorological Society at UMD. This organization is dedicated to advancing climate and weather science. As part of that initiative, the website, run by students, offers opportunities creates opportunities to educate future meteorologists and climate scientists and allow for more responsible climate action in the future.
