North Agora, viewed from the hill - Ancient City of Aphrodisias, Aegean Region of Turkey.
Evidence uncovered by archaeologists suggests that the Agora was the original center of Late Hellenistic Aphrodisias, and that the stoas that enclose it were part of a monumental civic building program begun in the late first century B.C. The earlier excavations on the north side of the Agora also produced valuable evidence for the development of the area in later generations. Of particular interest are a series of sculptures of different periods found lying directly in front of their bases along the back wall of the north stoa.
