Bangkok's relentlessly devouring its environs, the imposition of roads on the former world of Khlong (canal) communities, the exotic and romantic worlds of Thailand that the visitors have come for. Their remnants lay often right beneath or beside the concrete surfaces, often hidden, sometimes blatantly visual and yet usually absent from our conscious mind.

Traverse City, Michigan used to be the home for the state mental hospital known as the Traverse City State Hospital. The facility was closed in 1989 and is now undergoing redevelopment as a recreation, retail and housing development known as Traverse City Commons. One of the building has been redone and it's quite interesting to walk through the lower level with business set up in little rooms which look in a way like former cells. The building above has not yet been renovated and still exhibits a certain Victorian creepiness. My processing of the shot was meant to convey that feeling as well. (The image looks a little too crunchy at smaller sizes)

Susan singing in the women's prison choir.
"My name is Susan Kigula from Victoria women`s prison, in Uganda. My imprisonment has been a blessing in disguise because that’s where I studied and sat for my A level examinations and now I am studying for Diploma in Common Law with the University of London. I would like to extend my endless thanks to APP without which I wouldn’t have accessed the University of London Law Programme. On this International Women`s Day, I wish to appeal to all women organizations around the world to support women in prison especially those who still have plans to continue with their education like APP is doing."

Janet Moore of Illinois State University recently lead a workshop in Classroom Intelligent Adventure (CIA) Missions at College of DuPage for a group of local STEM teachers. The missions challenge your students to complete a series of puzzles in order to crack the code to unlock the box and save the day. Working as CIA agents, students use classroom concepts based in the STEM disciplines, along with teamwork and problem-solving skills, to complete their mission successfully. The CIA workshop provided teachers experience with several examples of STEM-focused CIA Mission puzzles and instruction on designing their own CIA Mission puzzle
Early on Monday morning, our team arrived at the Dong Thap General Hospital for clinic day where we ended up screening 198 patients for surgery. For many of us it was overwhelming to see so many patients needing surgery cramped into one small location but also rewarding to know that we would be able to help many of the children and adults who made the journey to Cao Lanh. We scheduled two weeks of surgeries for patients who needed cleft lip and palate repairs, burn reconstructions and other procedures to help correct debilitating deformities.
