You know you have true developers in the office when they leave notes for themselves in code.

There is a new version of the web developers toolkit out. Its an "addon" for firefox. One of the new features shown in this screenshot is (ahem!) putting a new tool bar just above the page and showing the page validation for html, css and accessibility. Accessibility usually shows errors as they are checks which you would need to look at.

Safari 4 is slightly faster than Chrome 4, at least on my machine, but Chrome has a WONDERFUL Developer Tools GUI that I really like. (Safari's got something similar, but I prefer Chrome's)

Safari has better integration with contextual menu tools, bookmarks management, etc.

Chrome has a really small CPU footprint and is fast and clean UI.

Competition is good for all of us.

In the 1880s, two men owned large tracts of land in Pinellas County, and both knew that, like a couple years before with Tampa, attracting a railroad was the key to successful development, John C. Williams (left) owned most of the land that is now St. Petersburg. Hamilton Disston (right) owned even more state land, including most of what is now Gulfport. Disston's offer to the Orange Belt Railway was not very generous. The Williams offer was more attractive, and the path to navigable water was more direct. Courtesy St. Petersburg Museum of History

Terminator 3, Fuji Acros, wine developer

From a delightful trip to Seattle to visit with the Seattle pinholers.

I had a catastrophe. While visiting with Jana Obscura, I was reminded of how much fun I had developing film with wine. I decided I was long overdue to try it again. I decided to do this roll with wine. What I forgot is that you have to know in advance you are going to use wine so you can overexpose your film by two stops. The roll is nearly blank. I managed to pull out these two.

On 26th November, at the Think Tank Birmingham, over 100 technology professionals - from CTO to software developers - attended the Harvey Nash Technology Survey event to discuss and debate the future of technology, tech careers and much more besides. Panel members were:

Ed Tucker – Head of Cyber Security, HMRC

Fred Warren – Connected Digital Services, Microsoft

Nick Holzherr – Founder/CEO, Whisk.com

These lined orbweaver spiders are often found in low vegetation and in bushes. There are so many that I could hardly believe I had not noticed them before. They sometimes make a round stabilimentum in their webs like this Lined Orbweaver (Mangora gibberosa) on bugguide: bugguide.net/node/view/137869/bgimage.

Found in a field down the street in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Id corrections appreciated.
