Jaguar XJ12 Broadspeed (1977) Engine 5343cc V12

Built at a tricky time for Jaguar with falling sales and boardroom schisms, the Broadspeed Jaguar was created to contest the European Touring Car Champioships.
Ray Broad of Broadspeed was handed two cars to develope into Touring cars, to tackle tje big engined Ford Capris and BMW CSLs, racing in the ETC. Broads preferance had been to develope the XJS but Jaguar decided the XJ a more suitable candidate, and the 2 door XJC was given the nod over its four door counterpart. The engine was a Jag 5.3-litre V12 (dry sumped from 1977) with racing pistons and independent injection, and an oil cooler but otherwise relatively standard, but the changes that were made created an output of 550bhp, and an ear drum shattering noise, driving through a standard manual gearbox casing with close-ratio gears a racing clutch and a solid mounted, oil-cooled rear axle.
The body was heavily reworked. It was much heavier than its rivals the bodyshells were even acid dipped to strip of some of the weight. But despite efforts to reduce the weight the car was still 1.5 tons after early tests, Lockhead were approached to improve braking and produced some bespoke eight-piston callipers for the front and four pots for the rears. But the cars were beset with problems, despite an excellent driver line up of Dereck Bell, Dave Hobbs and Tim Schenken.
It was the fastest car on the grid, normally racing of pole position and set fastest laps but were simply unreliable and BL pulled the plug.

The Kegresse system is a clever form of the caterpillar tracked drive system. Invented by French born Adolphe Kegresse an engineer who developed the system at the behest of his former employer Czar Nicholas II, who had wanted a means of adapting his cars to drive across deep snow, Rather than using the heavy steel plates of a conventional crawler tractor, Kegresse devised a lighweight system that employed rubber bands running around the bogies driven from the rear axle. patents were duly filed in Russia and in France, and by the onset of the first world war the system had been perfected.
Returning to his native France during the Russian revolution Adolphe Kegresse was introduced to Andre Citroen, who recognised the potential of the system and purchased the sole rights, setting up Societe Citroen-Kegresse-Hinstin to further develope and manufacture it.
One of the systems major advantages is the fact that it does not require a powerful vehicle, and tests were first carried out on an adapted B2 10CV model. These autochenilles (auto caterpillars) were an immeadiate sucess were used by farmers and foresters and for a variety of military uses. A series of expeditions across the undeveloped parts of Asia, America, and Africa was undertaken by Citroën, demonstrating the all-terrain capabilities of these vehicles.
The French Army purchased large numbers of the P17 and P19 halftrack as gun tractors. The Kegresse drive system were also mounted on a large range of armoured vehicles
In World War II, both sides used this system in the war effort. In the 1920s, the U.S. Army purchased several Citroën-Kégresse vehicles for evaluation and then purchased a licence to produce them. This resulted in the Army Ordnance Department building a prototype in 1939. In December 1942, it went into production with the M2 Half Track Car and M3 Half-track versions. The Nazis also captured many of these Citroën half-track vehicles and armored them for their own use

Another painting based on an old photo - and another unknown person. I'm guessing the photo dates from somewhere around the mid to late 1920's - maybe early to mid 1930's. I think I am starting to develope a process by which I can select some unusual colors to apply to these old black and white photos. The real test will be if I can come up with a color scheme for another photo (with which I am pleased) using the same process.

Used to be a dirty but busy port where all ships had to sail pass to reach the shop houses at Boat Quay and clarke quay for business trade, Singapore river is now clean and well develope into a tourist attraction plus financial district after 1970. But some of the old structures are still remain like the cavanagh bridge and the shop houses were evolved into restaurant, pub and bars to attract visitors.

In 1972, the UCADB was given the task of developing a modern armored fighting vehicle based upon Carpathian state-of-the-art domestic technologies. After many prototypes the design became production-ready in 1980, following 8 years in development. However, the project was cancelled in favor of the Krakkau II, another competitor for the Common Main Battle Tank program as the tank was too advanced for its era and it would have needed many more years to fix its flaws.
The XMBT-2000 Technology Demonstrator was a program funded by the United Carpathians to develope a tank that offered greater Lethality, Protection and Mobility with a number of advanced features. However, these features made the tank expensive and costly to operate.
Under the leadership of UCADB, the XMBT-2000 turret and its systems were developed by DunnMetal and the hull with its systems by Dürer Land Systems.
Mobility
The vehicle has a 2 stage gas turbine engine, the first stage 1000hp with a limited maximum speed of 65km/h and the second stage 1600hp for 80km/h top speed. However, the second stage is only avalaible for limited time to protect the engine as prolonged use would cause overheating and worse fuel economy. This power is coupled with a hydraulic suspension to offer great mobility in any situation. The XMBT-2000 fields an advanced suspension system, which allows for individual control of every bogie on the tracks. This allows the tank to "sit", "stand" and "kneel. "Sitting" gives the tank a lower profile and offers superior handling over roads. "Standing" gives the vehicle higher ground clearance for maneuverability over rough terrain. "Kneeling" augments the angular range in which the tank's gun barrel can elevate and depress, allowing the vehicle to fire its main gun downhill as well as engage low-flying aircraft more effectively. The suspension unit also cushions the chassis from vibrations when travelling over uneven terrain, as the bogies can be adjusted individually on-the-fly.
Lethality
It was planned for the vehicle to be equipped with DunnMetal's experimental 140 mm smoothbore gun, though this had to be abandoned when DunnMetal ceased development because the 120 mm/L65 would be more than adequate to counter prospective armored threats for the foreseeable future. The XMBT-2000 was subsequently reconfigured for the 120 mm/L65, though it is capable of mounting the 140 mm gun with minimum modifications should the need arise.
The tank is equipped with an advanced fire-control system linked to a traditional laser rangefinder and crosswind sensor. The FCS is also linked to an advanced gun stabilizer and trigger-delay mechanism to optimise accuracy while moving in uneven terrain.
Protection
Details of the composite armor of the XMBT-2000 are classified, although the frontal armor has been proven to be effective at defeating the 120 mm APFSDS rounds. Explosive Reactive Armor blocks are also present.

==============================================
The a deadly detail in the cemetery of my hometown, Sabadell.
Dry collodion plate, Major Russell process (tannin-collodion) in 4x5 format; taken with a Graflex Crown Graphic, made c. 1951; Graflex Optar f4,7 de 135mm lens; exposed for 2 minutes at f4.7 (EV 13.5). This particular plate was very "old" (that is, months or even a full year), and I used it just to see if it worked, and IT DID! And even more it was a gum arabic collodion dry plate, not a tannin one, as noted by myself in it, althoug I can't recall the exact details of manufacture.
The dry collodion is a quite convenient "evolution" from the wet collodion, as it allows to go out there without any box of chemicals and a dark box following you. But it never gained more popularity due to it's own problems, like even more complex manipulations and specially much less sensibility, with expositions in the minutes range, limiting it to landscape photography. This method, discovered by Major Russell in 1861, uses tannin to preserve the sensitivity of the plates once dry.
Glass plates covered with collodion (and previously albuminized, an essential part of the process) are prepared as for a usual wet plate. The moment you take them out of the silver bath, the fun begins. The plate must be washed, under red light, in two trays of distilled water, and then immersed in a solution of water, tannin and ethanol. It's about 10 minutes per plate, in total
Once the exposure is made, even more important is to develope also by immersion. First, the dry plate is moistened with water and ethanol, and then immersed for 5 minutes in a solution of pyrogallic and citric acid, with a few drops of silver nitrate. This starts the development, but it is necessary to add more silver nitrate after five minutes and usually up to 10-12 minutes.
