SIPI developed its on-campus Restoration Site where students go to identify plants, study wildlife behavior, and conduct long-term ecological studies on March 21st 2015. Volunteers learned how to build and create (1) an outdoor classroom (2) a trail (3) a Hugelkultur garden and (4) a pollination hotel. Event was successful and brought in more than 50 volunteers - students, community members, staff and faculty.

Thank you to our volunteers for their time and hard work and to our field experts who served as crew leaders. Thank you to our student organization, board of regents, and faculty and staff who donated lunch items.

One of my first prints in real black-and-white film.

I am absolutely enanamoured with the whole b/w film processing process. It's relaxing and exciting to have to wait to see what I've taken, even though I write everything down and have an idea of what it will look like.

To me it's a lot like when I was kid, waiting for letters from friends, rather than now when I get e-mail instantly.

I don't care who says what about digital vs. film, or whatever. I know that someday I will have a little closet in my house for doing this.

Initially developed as a private estate in the 1840s and opened to the public as a garden in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is a lovely green space located at 4344 Shaw Boulevard. It is also known informally as Shaw's Garden for founder and philanthropist Henry Shaw. Its herbarium, with more than 6.6 million specimens, is the second largest in North America, behind that of the New York Botanical Garden. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1976.

Henry Shaw's house, known as Tower Grove, seen here, was built in Italianate style in 1849.
