This was before the riot cops arrived...

Some video is here.

This is one of those spur of the moment photo ops where a camera comes in handy. She was not posing for the photo! At any major league baseball game money changes hands, good food is served, Nike is somewhere to be seen, and fans wear clothes that support their home team!

A quick weekend father/son trip to central Florida to see 2 spring training games! We saw Detroit/St. Louis on Saturday, and Atlanta/Pittsburg on Sunday. Yes, we drove.

The Tigers complete a sweep of Cleveland and push their lead in the AL Central to 7 games.

In 1972 I saw my first major league baseball game in Detroit.

It was the Tigers vs the Kansas City Royals at the famed Tiger Stadium at the corner of Michigan & Trumbull. My Grandpa & I attended however we were delayed getting there & actually ran down the streets of the city trying to get to the game on time. I can't remember why, I was 12 years old!

Starving, we stopped at a Coney Island on the way & asked for a hamburger. All they had was hamburger on a hot dog bun & all there was left was mustard to put on it so an annual tradition was born, sadly after my Grandpa's death in the mid 80's. I know he would be amused I even remembered but I do, dearly! :0)

We choked them down & went on to arrive at the stadium just in time for the first pitch seated in our box seats along the first base line just a couple of rows from field level., what a treat!!! Our heroes prevailed in a 2-0 win over the Royals that memorable sunny afternoon in the Motor City...fond memories to this day!

It would be 1984 before we would witness another World Series Championship, they last won it in 1968. By then he was visibly too sick to fully appreciate it but I think he was smiling on the inside...I think of him daily...quite an emotional day.

I had a once in a lifetime opportunity yesterday to take a stroll with about 18 other photographers thru the old Tiger Stadium. I can't tell you what a thrill this was for me. The stadium is in the process of demolition, and I am not quite sure of the fate on the corner of Michigan and Trumbull.

I kept trying to get a decent picture of this lovely lass and her sign without my wife Trish noticing. Must be why it's a bit out of focus ...
