Northbound empty ballast #6M25 powers into Wandong with GL109, GL103 and GL106.
Later on that week, these three locomotives had come off their hire stint hauling Ballast in North East Vic, and back into use elsewhere in NSW.
I headed up north earlier in the day hoping to get a couple of photos of the much surprising double B class combination on the QUBE APEX train. But. I missed it. Desperate for a drop of coverage, I waited around for this.

* The final shot of this little series .This is a view down the imposing Rue Jeanne d’ Arc towards the Cathedral Sainte-Croix in the heart of Orleans in central France.
I have tried to give a taste of Europe in this series including shots from France, Norway, England, Spain, Italy, Macedonia,Iceland,Portugal and Croatia. I am sorry I could not include other countries but I have yet to travel to them . What I hoped to show was the variety diversity and rich history of Europe . The assertion that Europe has been turned by the EU into a monolithic super state is a lie told by people who hate the notion of countries working together .
I leave the final words to the fine British Novelist Ian McEwen who wrote a good piece in the Guardian at the beginning of February the day after we left the EU
“ Take a road trip from Greece to Sweden, from Portugal to Hungary. Leave your passport behind. What a rich, teeming bundle of civilisations – in food, manners, architecture, language, and each nation state profoundly and proudly different from its neighbours. No evidence of being under the boot-heel of Brussels. Nothing here of continental USA’s dreary commercial sameness. Summon everything you’ve learned of the ruinous, desperate state of Europe in 1945, then contemplate a stupendous economic, political and cultural achievement: peace, open borders, relative prosperity, and the encouragement of individual rights, tolerance and freedom of expression. Until Friday this was where our grown-up children went at will to live and work.”
THANKS FOR YOUR VISITING BUT CAN I ASK YOU NOT TO FAVE AN IMAGE WITHOUT ALSO MAKING A COMMENT. MANY THANKS KEITH. ANYONE MAKING MULTIPLE FAVES WITHOUT COMMENTS WILL SIMPLY BE BLOCKED
A Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) in speckled light, in the wood. Neither image nor butterfly are spectacular, but I'm getting desperate here.

In a desperate attempt to save my career I seek legal advice. My lawyer tells me I owe you an apology. I see things differently but he gets his way in the end.
His law degree looks badly Photoshopped to me.
To escape the heatwave, we head to the dark canyons in the misty mountains but there's no room in the boat for me as Amanda, Wayne, and Adam Gibbs paddle off and leave me to brave the frigid river.
Tragically, I manage to drown my Osmo for the third time but still manage to produce my best image of 2021 in this magical slot canyon on Vancouver Island.
As if that wasn't enough of a landscape photography adventure, we take you deep into the old-growth rainforest to visit Canadas largest tree the 'Cheewat Giant'. It's almost as massive as Grumptons head.
What is a 'magic muffin' and who wins a free copy of my book? How high can my voice go while wading into icy waters?
Thanks for reading
Gavin
As the summer and early fall flowers fade away, the bees find fresh resources in these newly blooming late season lovelies. I think they even made a movie with the same title, no? Well, something close anyway...at least the same number of letters...I'll think of it.
Kayla twisted and thrashed, but the reptilian’s grip on her arm was ironclad. She couldn’t jump—not while it clung to her. If she did, it would leap with her. Or worse, be startled and tear her apart.
She swung the lamp with desperate force, shattering it against the one of the creature’s yellow eyes. It roared—a guttural, wet sound that reverberated through the tunnel.
Its claws tightened around her arm, yanking her close. With a flick of its other hand, it knocked the lamp away and struck her across the face. Pain exploded in her cheek. The lamp hit the wall and erupted in flames.
“Enough,” it rasped, voice bubbling like swamp water. “We’ve been waiting for you.”
Its slitted eyes narrowed. “Where is your device? Do you have it?”
Kayla clenched her jaw, refusing to speak.
Another blow. Her head snapped sideways.
“Cooperate,” it hissed, “or you’ll beg for death.”
She kicked and writhed as its clawed fingers began probing her body, searching. Then—contact. A lump in her pants pocket.
It tore the fabric open. The VDD tumbled to the tunnel floor.
The creature shoved her down… it’s claws biting her shoulder. “Pick it up.”
Kayla obeyed. Then hurled it.
The device clattered across the stone.
The creature shrieked in fury, its claws closed around her throat, lifting her off the ground. She gasped for air, legs kicking, vision blurring.
“You are worthless without the device,” it growled.
Then—three deafening cracks echoed through the tunnel. Followed by four more.
The creature dropped Kayla and spun.
Adrienne stood behind it, calm as ice, loading another clip in her pistol. Taking careful aim, pumped all 7 rounds into the beast.
It staggered forward, snarling. Then collapsed.
Adrienne rushed to Kayla.
Kayla blinked, dazed. “Where did you—”
“No time,” Adrienne said. “We’re leaving. That thing isn’t dead, and this place is going to be crawling with lizards.”
“My VDD… we have to—”
Adrienne smiled. “I’ve got it. You threw it right to me.”
She gripped Kayla’s wrist. Let’s go! And they jumped.

Strobist: AB1600 with gridded 60X30 softbox overhead. AB800 with Softlighter II camera left. Triggered by Cybersync.
Today the conditions were very difficult for taking a good landscape picture. I had to use unusual parameters, that I would not normally use. Wide aperture, high iso, fast exposure. Because in every 2 seconds waves splashed over my head. There was no way to use my tripod. I had my back to the sea, protecting my camera and in between the waves I tried to snap some pictures as quickly as possible. The filters needed to be wiped after each wave. 15 minutes later my clothes were soaking wet and I had to get back to my car. But the exciting and interesting foreground forced me to try these desperate measures.
I'm clinging to you, Lord, because I know you won't forget me, because I know you'll send peace to my soul.
Explored.
The story behind the photo can now be seen on the Really Right Stuff blog.
Hey Pomj, with who you made those?!? Here public-ally I state those are not mine... that I have been always using good quality... 'protections' so you can't blame me!

"My husband is the mayor of a booming metropolis and is always away on business, my two sons are spoiled, arrogant brats, I have had more "plastic" surgery than Melissa Rivers, my kitchen is kept spotless but nobody cares, and I do the dishes, every damned day. If this is the American Dream, wake me up!" says Cindy

I was looking through Suburbia, by Bill Owens and felt inspired to put my own spin on the subject. This particular photo is my modern slash retro take on one of Owen's photos. This one to be precise.
And if you've never heard of Bill Owens, you can check out his website or go to your local library and check out some of his photo books. ;)
Thurlestone/Marshall Beach on a very chilly January afternoon, not much surf and only three surfers desperately waiting for the not so forthcoming wave.
