At 11,000 feet the top of the Grand Mesa of western Colorado receives much more snow and rain than the surrounding countryside. It was 87F and desperately dry at about 4400 feet in the Colorado River Valley today but my car thermometer bottomed out at 47F on the mesa during a thunderstorm.

Most people around the world know of the mighty Marvel and DC comics labels, but people who take an interest in comics know that the UK has always punched above its weight in terms of how much writing and artistic talent it produces. Writers like Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Pat Mills and others cut their teeth on the UKs comics scene with their work originally published in 200AD. In 1950, the Dandy was the world's biggest-selling comic, followed closely by the Beano.
So it is with sadness that I had to produce this envelope, celebrating 75 years of the Dandy this year, which has just announced that it is to cease production due to declining sales, with it's last issue to be released on the 4th December, when Desperate Dan will tuck in to his last cow pie.
Goodbye Dandy, you will be missed. There goes another part of my childhood.
