Hello? Anyone seen a Jedi Master here? Short little green tinged fella, hairy ears, speaks in riddles does he.

This was taken recently at the butterfly garden at my daughters elementary school where you certainly can get an eye full of Black-eyed Susan's.

Call for desperate measures, if you're a Swainson's hawk at the Merced National Wildlife Refuge. It really did eat the bug!

...or livin' on the 18th floor.

Seen in Amsterdam last year.

This is an emotional image for me any time I see it but right now with all that is going on I find myself more emotional than ever. This beautiful Canada goose frantically flew over me several times going back and forth. It appears to have lost it's mate. It was squawking in a frantic manner until it flew out of my sight then I would hear it coming back over me doing the same thing time and time again. Geese possess a veritably human capacity for grief. Their feelings and emotions are far less different from us than you assume. Quite literally, humans, a dog, and a goose hang their heads, lose their appetites, and become indifferent to all stimuli emanating from the environment. For grief-striken human beings, as well as for geese, one effect is that they become outstandingly vulnerable to accidents; they tend to fly into high-tension cables or fall prey to predators because of their reduced alertness.

There have been reports of pair bonds that are so strong that if one goose is shot down by a hunter, the partner will circle back. Drawn by its need to stay with its lifelong companion, the single goose will often ignore the sound of shooting and return to die with its mate.

In The Pig Who Sang To The Moon, Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson writes about a goose who had a broken wing. During the fall migration, as other geese flew south, her gander accompanied her by air and by foot. She was going to walk south since she was unable to fly. He would not leave her, so after flying for a few hundred yards, he would stop and wait for her to catch up. He would call to her with his wildest, most piercing cry, urging her to spread her wings and fly with him to their distant home. He accompanied her until she was killed by carrion eagles and he had to continue his journey alone.

Widowed geese have been observed circling around and around, crying in heartrending sorrowful tones when their partners die or are shot by hunters. The remaining goose may mourn for a period of time and then mate again. Or they may mourn for the rest of their lives and never seek another mate. Just as with people, it varies with individual geese.....Choo Choo Rosenbloom

So I stood in the field with this knowledge and wept as she or he kept flying over me and frantically calling for their mate. It's an incredibly sad thing to witness.

Everyone please be safe. Thinking of you all.

#Brush

One last, desperate attempt at getting at least a decent image for our "Brush" theme (after spending half of the afternoon trying to make a tiny brush, made for small bottles with thin necks, look like a Christmas tree).

I've photographed this toothbrush (exclusively bought for macro photography) once before in high-key for a past "Pastel" theme (please see the first comment). And if that was the "A Night At The Opera" version, this low-key attempt is the "A Day At The Races" variant. Or so.

To get extra close, I mounted the Laowa 50mm 2x macro lens, which also means it's a single shot. Illuminated mostly from above with my natural light photo lamp and, stupidly, also from the right with one of the LED lamps, which explains the slight colour change on the right because that lamp casts a more yellowish light. But I didn't want to take yet another photo. I left the protection cap on the brush because I thought it added "something" to the scene.

Since from this POV, the toothbrush's handle was in the way, I glued it onto the table tripod's head (with modelling clay) to get a little more stability (and stabilised the brush's head with my hand). I pointed the camera slightly down to get a good view of the colourful bristles. That's it.

HMM, Everyone!

Rainbow Basin Natural Area, near Barstow, California.

I overcooked the colors a bit to bring out the texture. Quite a nice place to spend a day exploring the area.

[Confrontation with Death Crab]

Death Crab was so much stronger than I expected.

His special move, "Bleach bubbles," caused some of my reinforced cyber costume to show through and my sword to melt.

When I thought, "I'm done for!😣", The voice echoed.

"Hey you!!! Kinky crab!!! Hold on a sec!!!"

to be continued ,,, maybe ,,, lol

For fans of the classic RhB, the 11th hour is here. With the Dec 11th timetable change, the classic loco hauled services on the Disentis - Scuol Tarasp line are planned to be replaced by new Stadler Capricorn EMUs. I had planned a final trip to the Scuol end of the line to coincide with the fall foliage season but as Murphys law goes, on the weekends I had free time the weather was poor, when I was busy with non train things it was sunny. Last Thursday I saw a decent weather forecast emerging and hurriedly booked tickets for a "15 minute adventure" over the weekend. In addition to the forecast the Ardez webcam promised some snow accumulation at the higher elevations. After a grueling "night train" trip from Mainz aboard IC 60403 I arrive in Grabunden to clearing skies. Shortly before "licht aus" I captured my favorite shot of the the day as the 13:41 from Scuol to Disentis approaches Ardez with red Ge 4/4 626 leading. Not seconds later the mountain shadows descended on the tracks.

Me. "Richard, have you been drinking again?"

Richard. " You stewpid woman, can you not she that I am practishing my yoga? Hic! "

Me. " Oh, sorry Richard!"

Excuse me for a while

While I'm wide-eyed

And I'm so damn caught in the middle

I excused you for a while

While I'm wide-eyed

And I'm so damn caught in the middle

And a lion, a lion roars, would you not listen?

If a child, a child cries, would you not forgive them?

Yeah I might seem so strong

Yeah I might speak so long

I've never been so wrong

Yeah I might seem so strong

Yeah I might speak so long

I've never been so wrong

If anything called Hope and it's true ........

Then I believe in Life .......

Ask Me !

i cannot be an ostrich, not in my dna

but i cannot unsee what i am seeing today.

Every year, the garden spiders weave thousands of webs in one last act of desperation to catch any insects that may still be out and about..I found this one loaded with raindrops spun in the moss on the olive tree.

We desperately need the rain and we're getting it. I'm not a big fan of being out in it, but the trees and earth are happy. Hope you're all doing well, and an early Happy New Year!
