This is my dual desktop desktop (heh) that I have on my computer at work. I was inspired by inaudiblewhisper's "Sleek Wood Desktop" and decided to create my own.
All of the picture frames are dynamic, and each randomly cycles through a dedicated folder containing appropriately-sized pictures. The big frame on the right is solely for movie posters ('cause I'm a giant nerd). The other interactive features are a useable whiteboard, clock, calendar and trash can. I'm still looking for a good widget that will allow me to use any picture to my desktop as a shortcut to launch a file, link or program. If anyone knows of such a widget, please let me know!
Wood floor texture: Oliuss
Yahoo Widgets:
• JC Sticky Deluxe (with background color and shadow turned off)
• Picture Frame (four separate instances)
Whiteboard font: Blambot's Anime Ace 2.0
Dock: Rocket Dock, Vista theme
The two Firefly (well, technically Serenity) maquettes are actually my designs, and were created by Quantum Mechanix. You can see them here and here.
The other bits and pieces I found in various places online. The biggest challenge was finding things that roughly matched the perspective of the floor. The appearance of the white matte above the photos is created by adding an inner shadow to the photos in Photoshop.
You can see the desktop as it looks without all the dynamic elements here.
Hope you like it!
We recently set about searching the web for Envato related wallpapers, here is a great one made by theninja - ThemeForest

Not my usual sort of image, but thought I would have a go, one of those drama-less colourful cropscapes you see as desktop pics for PC's

Screenshot showing my six different workplaces. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, with Compiz enabled. The desktop size is 3x2.
Compiz plugins enabled:
* Desktop Wall
* Expo (it's on for this screenshot)
* Wallpaper (using 4 different images as the background for 6 workplaces
The first few workplaces each have a specific role (check the photo notes). Others are used as needed.

My new Sony SDM P234, 23" LCD arrived today from repair.
It took almost a month to repair a broken base.
I had it for only 2 days after delievery then it went to Sony technical services.
Now I got it back and I hope it lasts as long as the old Sony 200PST 17" CRT.
Well, where do I start? Obviously I'm using the Rainmeter app.
The notes app is by ~Kaelri
The system app is also by ~Kaelri
These have been slightly edited to my liking.
The Calendar is by ~Limpet <3
Weather by Momax
Clock by Cho_7, skin is Trans.Rounded.
The pens, and notes vectors are by ~masseva.
The cell phone vector is by ~rembrandt83.
The notebook paper, Coffee, and Icons (for rocket dock) I made myself, all in Photoshop, as well as the background which was made using the Fibers and Noise.
The doodles scattered about, I honestly do not know who they belong to, I've had them for a long time. So if they belong to you, please drop me a line so that I may credit you properly!!!
I've been working on this theme for 3 weeks now, and honestly I don't think I'm done. I'm constantly tweaking it.
Thanks for looking!
Just an update to anyone interested:
I have finished coding every little piece included in this desktop, and adding it as a Rainmeter app. All pieces will now be movable as you wish to move them. I've even given it a name, and when I finish the .zip file, it will have every piece you see on this desktop, the icons for rocketdock (or object dock if you wish, they're png's.), along with the wood grained background.
Look for this to be released within the week! I will link you all to my DA to download it when it's up!
Another update, I've released the interactive desktop, which was suggested by projectvirus!
My personal computing history: DOS>AppleIIgs>OS/2>NT4>WindowsXP/2000>Vista(for 18mo)>Red Hat WS3-5>Ubuntu>OSX [I still run Ubuntu & XP in a VM]
I switched from Linux to OSX, as it supported Adobe products(which I needed for photo editing). Plus I like Mac's now as as I can go into a command prompt & do *nix commands.
(I put up with Vista for 18 mo, I couldn't put up with crashing anymore -system was 4gb ram + ssd)

"I said NO FOAM, you stupid ape!", shouts the Doctor at the dematerializing Starsbuck interstellar barista, after throwing the vile foamy brew on the ground in a petulant fit. ("Whatever", thinks Amy, who wisely went for a plain ol' cuppa.)
