Die neue Wehrhahnlinie Düsseldorf
Alle Bahnhöfe der Wehrhahn-Linie wurden nach einem klaren Designkonzept gebaut. Dazu gehören markante Lichtschächte, die das natürliche Tageslicht bis zu den Bahnsteigen vordringen lassen, und eine dem Sicherheitsmuster des Reisepasses nachempfundene Gestaltung der Betonoberflächen. Die Gestaltung der unterirdischen Welt wurde in einem Wettbewerb ausgeschrieben - und vom jungen Darmstädter Designteam "Netzwerk-Architekten" gewonnen. Auch Künstler waren von Anfang an beteiligt.

"Die U-Bahnhöfe der neuen Wehrhahn-Linie in Düsseldorf sollen Visitenkarten der nordrhein-westfälischen Landeshauptstadt werden und durch ihre Gestaltung zum Verweilen einladen", sagte Oberbürgermeister Joachim Erwin bei der Vorstellung der Ergebnisse des international ausgeschriebenen Wettbewerbs. Bestimmend für den Entwurf des Siegerteams: Sie begreifen die Wehrhahn-Linie als eine Art "unterirdisches Kontinuum", das sich durch die Stadt schlängelt. Dabei sind die Bahnhöfe Aufweitungen des Tunnels, die über oberirdische Einschnitte mit dem Stadtraum verbunden sind: gestaltet als großer, trichterförmiger Raum wie eine Lupe, die ihren Lichtkegel ins Dunkel wirft. Weitere Kennzeichen: eine Beleuchtung mit asymmetrischen Wand- und Deckenflutern, die die Bahnhöfe in einem gleichmäßigen Licht schimmern lässt. Darüber hinaus sind die Stationen leicht einsehbar und bieten somit einfache Orientierung.
Faszinierende Atmosphäre
Die Jury unter dem Vorsitz des Kölner Architekten Walter von Lom war sich einig: Das zukunftsweisende Konzept der Darmstädter wird bei den Fahrgästen großen Anklang finden. Die Experten lobten den Entwurf der "Netzwerk-Architekten" als unterirdische Inszenierung einer wunderbaren U-Bahnwelt und als durchgehend hervorragende Arbeit. Das Design entzöge sich dem Zeitgeist und habe somit über lange Zeit Gültigkeit.
Kunst von Anfang an Bestandteil der Planung
Mit dem Architekturwettbewerb hat die Stadt Düsseldorf Neuland betreten. Denn bereits von Anfang an wurden Künstler in alle Planungsüberlegungen einbezogen. Schließlich sollte die künstlerische Gestaltung nicht den architektonischen Vorgaben folgen, sondern direkt Bestandteil der Planungsüberlegungen sein. Zum Siegerteam aus Darmstadt gehören Philip Schiffer, Jochen Schuh, Markus Schwieger, Thilo Höhne, Karim Scharabi und Oliver Witan. Für die künstlerische Gestaltung zeichnet die Düsseldorferin Heike Klussman und für die Lichtplanung der Heidelberger Uwe Belzner verantwortlich.

I'm so into light colors with little hints of color, I rummaged around my scrap paper bins and found lots of white and cream little pieces to sew onto my page. Splattered some paint and I think my page is complete.

This mural has been on this Christchurch multi-story car park for years, but I was not able to photograph it recently because it was in the earthquake red zone for a while. Now it can be accessed again and hopefully what is in my opinion is the best multi-story car park in the world will be on the repair column rather than the demolish.
This is on the eastern side of the Christchurch car park. It shows the red tick, which is like the logo for the building.
We have procured a vintage Fisher Price PXL2000 video camera. We're thinking of moving to Fisher Price for all our hardware needs.

Danielle, Alaina's babysitter that moved away 2 years ago, is coming out for a visit and I wanted to make her a little box of cute stuff. I framed a photo of both kids, and Alaina added a flower and some drawings. :) So-so-so excited to see that girl again, it's been months since our last visit.

We're working on a design system for a new client. It will include a large amount of information graphics so we're spending a bit of time playing around with styles.
