Part of "Moveable Type" installation by Mark Hansen and Ben Rubin in the entrance of the NYT building. The installation is an active portrait of the NYT fueled by the contents of the daily paper as well as interactions from NYtimes.com browsers.
The second installment of our Spring 2016 members-only studio tour series got us an intimate look into the day-to-day workings of some of New York City’s most intriguing and innovative design companies. The New York Times Digital Design Team lead us on a tour of The Times’s Renzo Piano designed office, followed by a 30 minute casual conversation and Q&A with the team over a light breakfast.

Lemonade was commissioned to Art Direct and Design the catalogue for for Coussinet's Autumn Winter 2009 collection of scarves, belts and accessories. The final product resulted in a large format catalogue along with an A1 poster folded down that also doubled as a product guide. The uncoated finish and textures used throughout the brochure helped reinforce Coussinet's 'hand crafted' quality.
Lemonade has created branding and marketing collateral including brochures, catalogues, flyers and websites for leading fashion labels both in Australia and overseas. Some of our clients include:
This particular baby shower isn't your standard baby shower hoopla. The mother-to-be wanted it to be more casual, outdoors, intimate with close friends and to have a simple menu like a BBQ. After talking to the future mom and the party planning team, I knew right off the bat what I wanted to do for the baby shower invite. No formal envelope, just a straight forward postcard style invite with the pertinent info on it. Of course, there was a push of a theme, but not over the top. It's a Western-inspired BBQ baby shower. And the design of the postcard reflects that with Western style typefaces, flourishes, the bold red, natural wood grain tones and a graphic horse, but a horse rocker since it is a baby shower. ;)

What inspired me to produce this specific look and feel came from a set of J.Crew necklaces. It's featured in the 2nd board on the black sweep. Like usual, I fall in love with jewelry; but this time it was for the layered baguette crystal and pearl strands.
The style and mood that seemed to emanate from the necklace was something romantic, modern & European. For the color palette, I went with classical, soft pinkish hues to soften the strong black and white tones. Delicate fabrics like the lace featured on the Vera Wang bridal gown below certainly plays up the romance factor. The bedroom, to the right, totally complements the mood that I am going for.
The perfect flowers to accompany this decor are the white & pink anemones. The soft, frilly petals contrast its dark, graphic center. If you want some matching glitz for the reception tables, check out some of ZGallerie's tabletop accessories like the jeweled tealight holder seen below.

I do love making a focal point on a wall especially to “pop” white accessories off a bold colorful wall like this, but not exactly sure about the Faux Taxidermy heads. I am a vegetarian, and I have nothing against this, but the idea of representing an animal head on my wall makes me question the idea. What do you think? Love or not so much... I must admit, it is growing on me.
These faux taxidermy heads are made of white, lacquered resin and are available via ZGallerie.com

Colors: Black, Purple, Lavender, Silver Grey + White
Who doesn't want to feel like royalty on their wedding day! And the best hue to accentuate royalty is a purple.
Here's a little history on the color purple, and why it's simply known as the symbol for "nobility." Back in the medieval times, blue dyes (red + blue pigments when mixed, produced purple) were so expensive that only the wealthy, or the aristocracy could afford it. Naturally over time, the deep-bluish purple became the wardrobe color of Kings, and is often known as "royal purple". Not only is the purple hue associated with royalty, but damask and brocade silk prints were common, too, in the aristocratic wardrobe due to its high production costs.
So for this wedding inspiration board, I had to pair the royal purple shade with the ornate, but sophisticated print. Inspired by the damask pillow design with its varying shades of purple, I knew the event colors had to be black, royal purple, and the secondary accent colors to be lavender and a light silver grey. I could definitely see the damask pillow in a modern, white seated lounge area for the cocktail hour and post-dinner celebration. For the tablescape, it will be a combination of pewter-like drinking vessels, crystals, white silver-rimmed plates, silver chargers & candelabras, black/white damask votives, bunches of purple hydrangeas & irises, and all set on white runners and black linens.
And other great embellishments to make yourselves feel like true royalty: how about a customized monogrammed aisle runner, empty oval baroque frames to get your cameo portraits shot by the photographer, and invest in good lighting to set off the whole environment.

The brand image of My Travelscape is fun and when I first created the travel icons (airplane, cruise liner, hot air balloon + scooter) to help communicate her line of travel services, I knew they would come handy and serve me well in expanding the visual message to her audience.
As soon as Nisha came to me for her business flyer, I knew right away what I wanted to do. Obviously, I had to keep in mind that this was going to be a more economical budget compared to our last projects such as the thermography business card, lenticular luggage tags or the embossed + spot varnished DM letter, however, the concept and design of this project doesn't have to be compromised due to a lower budget.
Instead of offset or any other specialized print services, we went with Digital printing on standard cardstock paper that was already available in the printer's shop and chose a standard 5"x7" size design which doesn't require any type of custom dies or binding. All of these choices for production are pretty straight forward, but it's the design that makes the printed product stand out.
This is a 4-color CMYK job, but we made it look 2-PMS color postcard. The main brand color of My Travelscape is a PMS 321U (a deep green turquoise hue), and played with that color value and a 50% shade of it for the cover design of the postcard flyer.
For the cover design, I was inspired by the look of a vintage world map with the latitude and longitude lines and thought this was the perfect application to superimpose the travel icons to convey My Travelscape's booking services. For the reverse side, I embraced the border design as seen in old school air mail and merged it with a personalized postcard message as though it was thoughtfully written from Nisha at My Travelscape to her addressee.
To further communicate Nisha's knowledge of top travel destinations, I created custom travel stamps to highlight prime vacation spots that she has experienced in her own travels. It creates a visually tactile space, and it's sure to catch the eye of the reader.
This may be your standard sized 5x7 postcard with pretty basic printing, but it has a visual punch with bold color, unique tailored design + typographic details. If you're wanting to elevate your businesses visual communications from either an ad placement to a brochure, there is a reason to come to Design With Chon for design services. I bring a fresh eye to what you can do to make your business visually stand out from fellow competitors.
