On Explore! December 31, 2007! #323

Thank you very much to all of you my dear Flickr friends for your so kind comments!

Rideau… on 2008… the beginning of the festivities of Québec City’s 400th anniversary!

Taken at the Biennale Internationale du Lin de Portneuf... François Méchain (France) created this wonderful ephemeral sculpture with linen materials. In keeping with the spirit of the site – cape Lauzon by the St. Lawrence River – the work integrate a force of nature: the wind. Happy and a wild new year my dear friends!!! :)))

It's been a long while since I painted the house and have had the itch lately to change things up. The walls are scuffed and chipping in some places and I think that it may be time to change the colour palette around here.

As much as I love a fresh coat of paint; picking colours is a pain. I spent today looking through swatches and ideas online. I think I may have a plan formed, but I need to think a little more before I commit to it and actually go buy the paint and start the work.

Hope everyone has had a good Monday.

THE SEASON pf LIGHT…

From the series Cubes and lights.

Taken in the studio with only ambient light, no star effect-filters used.

This is a glass cube often used as a vase, or candleholder, or I put small lights in.

The glass cube is 20cm, on top of the 'CUBE TABLE' which has a light inside, here switched off. In the studio, black background, NO extra light, just the tiny ones inside the glass cube. Tripod work, and using the dof button a lot!

I'm enamoured with glass, light, reflections, for all the unexpected light refractions...

Diwali is one of the most popular and eagerly awaited festivals of India, and is the Hindu Festival of Lights..

Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did making them.

Thank you, M, (*_*)

reason why I'm writing this is, that, during this long exposure I didn't noticed that the sky was clear above the fog, after downloading this picture on my desktop I was so surprised ( and happy ;-) that the "Great Bear constellation" was standing above the Deventer skyline !!!!

ps. for those who are getting the feeling neglected and ignored I appologize, for this moment business has priority #1, to much work in a short of time, and above of all, we have to move the complete designstudio to another department in our factory within 4 days.....500 boxes to fill !!!!!

Bonus Theme - The End

This photo:

Well, there is a story behind this photo... before the final themes were announced I had wanted to create a tag game which was intended to be an "A-Z Challenge 2.0 T: Tribute and Thank You" to Leslie and Audra for running this fantastic challenge for us once again! So, I kind of see this photo as having a dual purpose: it is both my 'The End' photo and also a Tag Game invite to all A-Z Challenge participants who would like to create an A-Z Challenge tribute photo to thank Audra and Leslie for all the wonderful creative fun they have provided to us all throughout the year!

The backstory to my Tribute/The End photo is that Audra and Leslie have been inundated with entries for the final round of the Challenge and overwhelmed by work (while also busily preparing to leave for Convention) they call in some extra help in the form of junior picture editor Erin. Erin works for a high end fashion magazine and is also a would-be fashion photographer. Erin is so impressed with the quality of the entries that she shows them to her Editor-In-Chief who wants to publish them in the fashion magazine! In these photos Erin is wistfully looking forward to the possibility of another A-Z Challenge in the future in which she hopes to participate...

My special thanks to Jade, Michal O. Patrizia (SineVoce) and Amelia M for the use of their beautiful photos (though it was a surprise to them what I was using them for!)

I have done my best to tag everyone that I think is a Challenge participant (subject to the Flickr limits) but If I have missed you please still join in if you want to!

My SmugMug film | Blog post

One morning while out location scouting deep in the woods (for my @smugmug film) I came across a strange and striking sight 🌿

A fallen tree, its bare limbs spread out almost as though searching for a subject to embrace. The bizarre architecture of it sparked my imagination and a seed of idea began to grow.

Not one to often shoot young men, I’ve always wondered what we could create together. For this shoot I took inspiration from my model Isaac, a young person blooming into adulthood. That concept coupled with the location I found felt like one of those moments in life when everything aligns and we were all exactly where we were meant to be.

When I pulled this image up afterwards I noticed something strange (and wonderfully sinister) about the tree that none of us consciously noticed in real life.

Can you tell what it is?

Big love to my amazing team who worked with me to bring this to life! 💖🌷🌸

Le Roi s'amuse or The King Has Fun is a French play in five acts written by Victor Hugo.

First performed on 22 November 1832 but banned by the government after one evening, the play was used for Giuseppe Verdi's 1851 opera Rigoletto.

America changed immeasurably in the years following WWII. Young men who had grown up poor and served in the military, had the chance to go to College through the GI Bill. The urban landscape began to change as well. As these men started families, Suburbs sprouted like weeds and cities changed to accommodate the car. Parking lots and freeways claimed old neighborhoods and buildings under the banner of Urban renewal.

Estate wagons, once purchased mostly by wealthy people became station wagons, icons of suburbia long before soccer moms discovered SUV"s.

Cars slowly became less tubby through the 1950s as the Detroit styling departments embraced jet fighter influences. By the end of the decade, fins would reign supreme.

The way in which family memories were captured also changed in the fifties. Color film became available to dads across the land.

We offer up, a simulation of this transition from lush Pan X film stock to Kodachrome to the Digital now.

Happy Independence Day!

It is always the same, once I have an idea for the studio, I get in there, see something else, and something else again, wonderful how inspirational it can be.

My imagination running wild again...I positioned these beauties, the stage was set, the lights were on, camera/action/ ready for their close-up...

More experiments with lights and shapes.

Zantedeschia, usually erroneously called Calla or Arum lilies (only when big and white), they are not a true lily.

It is named after Italian botanist Francesco Zantedeschi.

All parts of the plant are toxic.

I wish you all a great day, and thank you for all your words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. M, (*_*)

The new cards I designed came in. I really like them! Was really hard to find a printer to print 2 sided clear plastic (most only do one sided). The effect I was going for was to make it look like the "label" wrapped around. www.plainjoestudios.com/
