This piece of work was inspired by a drawing I made from plant life.

It is made from hand needle lace sewn onto a commercial printed and machine embroidered fabric, with seperate free form hand needlace to make the frame.

Donna Hanson was introduced to weaving on a rigid heddle and on a floor loom by her mother, a professional weaver, in the early 1970’s. A former special education teacher, Donna began teaching at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota in 2009 and now teaches an average of 7 classes each trimester, including beginning and advanced techniques on floor looms and rug looms as well as lecture classes in design, color, blocks, and computer design. She has a particular interest in experimenting with color in her weaving, no matter the structure, and thoroughly enjoys the creative design process. Her work has been displayed at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota, Midwest Weavers Conference, and the Minnesota State Fair, earning many ribbons, including the Sweepstakes in weaving.

I bought this mostly because of its light weight. It was the lightest of all the vacuum cleaner at the store.

In this case, I take the Apple TV and some sort of display for "Entertainment," and leave the peripherals on their own.

Tonelli manufactures furnishing items and designer objects in glass.

The company was founded in the mid-1980s when the first steps were being made in welding together flat sheets of crystal glass using a structural bonding agent. Until that time, glass was only used in the furnishing industry in the form of flat sheets or connected to other elements by means of visible metal joints. The results of early experiments in this new technique stood out like a small Copernican revolution.

Tradition and technology have been brought together to forge a company philosophy, the very heart of which is based on the value given to design, and therefore, to the designer, when it comes to enhancing the characteristics of this unique element: glass.

Doesn't look like a lot stacked up like that, but printing each layer took 2-3 hours...seemed like the damn things never ended! Never screenprinted 200 copies of anything before, esp. without the benefit of a drying rack.

Scandinavians are extremely talented and skilled with respect to design. They're well-known world wide by their inimitable and unique designs which are the bridge between crafts and industrial production. The close bond between beautiful, organic forms and everyday functionality are one of those main strengths in Scandinavian design.

SWEET CALL AND RESPONSE

By Steve MacDonald and Dana F. Smith

2012, San Francisco, California

edition of 25

Sweet Call and Response was developed with an emphasis on experimentation with the materials - digital printing on canvas, photo collage, machine sewn thread, and sewn collage.

Instinctively, messages are sent to attract a response. This book is a visual poem about communication through the interplay of universal symbols and photographic images.

The book is printed entirely on canvas specially coated for digital printing with pigmented inks. A variety of sewing techniques, such as patchwork and embroidery, are applied to the pages over the ink. Each page of the book is treated with meticulous stitching executed by hand using a home sewing machine. Pages are affected on both sides by the stitching. Inverse images create a visual echo woven into the design of the book, which propels the narrative ever forward.
