Photo cropped from a photo taken on my Olympus. The actual flowers were less than 1mm across. It looks very beautiful in the photo but in reality the flowers almost look like white fuzz. The beauty we could very easily miss without cameras!
Jim Cootes elevated this to species level in 2011. It was previously considered a variety of Dendrochilum curranii (Dendrochilum curranii var. serratoi (Ames) L.O.Williams 1951). From the Philippines.

Labelled Dendrochilum magnum, Jim Cootes commented that in his opinion it was Dendrochilum macranthum. "I have never seen what I would consider to be a true Dendrochilum magnum, even in the Philippines."

This particular specimen is growing terrestrially, and it is about 5-feet across.
This species is from the Philippines. Marni Turkel wrote on her web page, "There are two varieties of Dendrochilum uncatum. The species epithet uncatum refers to the sickle-shaped or hooked arms attached to the column that is the defining characteristic between the two varieties. In D. uncatum var. longispicatum, the arms are attached on the bottom of the column, whereas, in D. uncatum var. uncatum, the arms are attached at the middle of the column."
April 25, 2007. Minute flowers, only a couple of mm in diameter, 50+ to a stem. Grown warm and bright, two spikes this spring, this being the second.
Now with ID! Former mystery species originally from Andy's Orchids. My friend Joe has grown it up into quite a specimen.
Dendrochilum cobbianum is an epiphytic orchid occurring in the Philippines, growing on moss-covered trees. It can sometimes occur as a lithophyte growing on rocks at altitudes above 1200 m.
It possesses white to green-white, creamy flowers with yellow throats that emerge alongside new growth. This flowers have a diameter of 1.8 cm. They are fragrant with the scent of new mown hay. When in bloom a multitude of flowers are contained on arching inflorescences, with a length of about 50 cm.
