Charles Demuth (1883-1935) depicted this grain elevator in his hometown of Lancaster PA in a Precisionist style. The pyramidal roof is thought to have inspired the painting’s title.

Founded in 1770 by Christopher Demuth,at 114 E. King Street, the tobacco shop was passed down through the family for more than 200 years. It is the oldest continuously operated tobacco shop in America. In fact, Demuth's Tobacco Shop is still in the original building where the company started. In the 1920's noted Lancaster architect Emlen Urban designed the interior and exterior as the shop appears today. The shop sells a range of premium cigars, pipes, cigarettes and accessories including Demuth brand cigars, snuff and pipe tobacco. And the staff is always willing to answer questions. While visiting the tobacco shop, tour the adjacent home and museum of internationally known Lancaster artist Charles Demuth at 120 East King Street.

Curatorial Fellow Amanda Burdan discusses prints in the exhibition, "The Road Less Traveled: Thomas Nason's Rural New England" that suggest Nason's familiarity with the aesthetics of modern art. It may sound like a contradiction in terms, but Burdan thinks of Nason as a experimenting with something she calls "rural modernism." She will also compare Nason's prints with work by Grant Wood, Charles Sheeler, and Charles Demuth. This video takes a closer look at Nason's wood engraving "Factory Village," the subject of which is a distinct departure from his typical scenes of rural New England life.
This set of 28 photographs were taken beside the Livingstone airstrip South of Darwin on 1st September 2003. A small crowd of spectators watched with great interest for an hour as the different phases of construction were worked through. An overly zealous railway employee then arrived and ordered everybody away from the area. This was working towards the finish of the new railway line from Alice Springs to Darwin. In a little over four months from this day the first train arrived in Darwin from Adelaide.
Taken at Demuth park in Palm Springs. Some of the cell towers in my neighborhood ae made to look like palm trees. This one is also lighting for the soccer fields nearby.

Today's We're Here challenge: A day in the Park. I had planed to just visit one of the local parks, but ended up driving by a few...
I drove through Demuth Park and saw a Dog Park and Ball Park.
It was nice seeing people playing ball...it felt so natural! I even got to throw a foul ball back to the players.
