Tiny flowers in the backyard/garden. I don't know what they are, the wife probably does though.... Today's daily shot.
Most of the advertising photos for Arches has this arch on the cover. I hiked up a mile or so to get this photo. There is 1 1/2 hike to the top where you are right bedside the arch. I didn't do that one, although my friends from North Carolina did.
As you can see in this picture, there are a lot of people up there by the arch.
It was great to make the trek to Delicate Arch in comfortable weather this time around. Last time was a little over 4 years ago and in summer heat.
We had the place almost to ourselves too and it was amazing to sit back and enjoy such an amazing place without a big crowd.
This is a photo I took almost 9 months ago. I just wanted to try luminosity blends in CS5 and give a life to 3 RAW images. Here is the result.
It is a composite of three exposures, processed manually in CS5.
What an amazing hike it was, to the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. 38 degrees (Celsius) without any shadow… But what an view.

These little butterflies were very obliging and let me take many photos of them on my shasta daisies, before flying off.

A view "from above", more or less. Can't recall just where I got this view, but it was splendid. I was on a backcountry photo workshop in May, 1981 and we did the Delicate Arch hike during our evening in the park.
A person is sitting at the closer base of the arch, giving something of a sense of scale to this scene.

Delicate Arch is 60-foot-tall (18 m) freestanding natural arch located in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah, USA.[1] It is the most widely recognized landmark in Arches National Park and is depicted on Utah license plates and on a postage stamp commemorating Utah's centennial anniversary of admission to the Union in 1996. The Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics passed through the arch

My friend bought a piece of wall art from a thrift shop and someone had stuck this leaf inside of the glass pane. How incredibly painted it is on an almost translucent leaf that looks as if it would crumble with even a delicate touch. :-)
I know I keep saying I've never seen anything like it but I don't think I could've even imagined these. From their amazing magenta coloured hats to those impossibly thin black stems, this was an incredible find.
I think these butterflies look so delicate. It's taken me more than one visit to Butterfly World to get a half decent shot of one.
We hiked like 45 mins to where the delicate arch located that day. The sun was blazing down the earth as you could notice from sunglasses they worn. Then I noticed these students. Their vitality made a different to the arch since most people just toke a rest within the shade of the arch.
- www.kevin-palmer.com - There wasn't a very good sunset on this evening at Arches National Park. Once a lot of the people cleared out I moved closer to Delicate Arch to capture a different perspective. This view shows the large bowl that lies below the arch.

I had one shot in this pack left. I don't normally take pictures of anything remotely "morbid" but for some reason this kind of spoke to me of the delicate balance of life vs. death. These were probably bait fish of some sort for an early morning fishing trip and got bit off the line or discarded and the sea brought them back up to the shore. You see, the ocean doesn't need them, but wildlife on the beach feed on them and the circle of life continues. I was anxious about this shot because I thought I took the shot too late as the waves washed the fish back and forth along the beach, but to my delight (as odd as it may sound seeing as they are dead fish) I absolutely loved the end result.. the vibrant thrashing of the surf as it came in, the essence of life itself, against the palor of death with the fish. Ok.. too philosophical? apologies, haha.
