Yesterday evening, 24 March 2016, we had a mix of snow and rain falling and I felt like finding something bright and cheery to post this morning. At least in my area of the city, no snow had settled anywhere, which was a relief. The ground is wet, which is desperately needed, especially for farmers. The temperature is 4C and the sky is a mix of cloud and small patches of blue sky. The next two days look good (Easter weekend), but mixed precipitation is in the forecast for the coming week.

Delicate Arch, Ut. I stopped by Moab for an overnight stay last weekend and took the walk out to Delicate Arch. I got there about an hour and a half before sunset and the place was covered with people. I got in some good shots with people waiting in line to get their pictures taken under the arch, but there was almost zero opportunity to get any shots of the arch by itself in daylight.
The moon was already starting to rise so I waited for night to let the moon light up the arch. About 6 of us stayed at the arch after sundown and got a spectacular show with all of the stars and the moon lighting up the arch amazingly well. I took several long exposures. I thought, "Who needs to take daylight pics with all of those people when you can take them at night when no one is around."
The Delicate Arch is shot so much I wanted to take some different aspects of the Arch. This shot is from underneath the arch. I got some other ones where you can see the constellation Orion behind it. You can make out part of Orion in this particular shot. I will add some more photos of the arch soon.

This is the Lower Cany Creek Falls' delicate little sister falls. It is a smaller fall just to the left of the larger fall. This was taken on a recnt outing with kwsanders, bamawester and nailbender.

Arches National Park - Moab Utah
Just returned from a road trip to Utah. This was taken on the first night after a 1 1/2 mile hike to the arch on the night of the summer solstice and one night shy of a full moon.
This is a macro shot of the common daisy. I really liked the delicate petals that are almost transparent.

I have been hiking to Delicate arch every week since I moved to Moab in hopes of getting an awesome sunset photo. Last night I got to the arch around 6 pm hoping to get a parking spot at the main lot, didn't happen, and to wander around the arch again and see what frame I wanted. There is a forest fire burning about 30 miles south of town right now and I was thinking the smoke in the air could create some nice sunset light. Instead we had a storm roll in packing 30-40 mph gusts of wind, throwing sand everywhere but that's when the rain started falling; and when the magic happened. This started as a single rainbow and then quickly turned to a double. I was down below the rim to avoid having people in the shot and last nights group was really respectful and people would run out to the arch and run back quickly unlike most times I've been there. I feel fortunate to have been there to witness such an event at a world famous site.

After having spent the afternoon photographing nature, I was just a bit more tuned in while pottering around at the back areas of the Keswick Railway Terminal to see this delicate organic beauty amongst the metal, rust and grime. Thanks for Scat2906 for identifying this flower as a Scabious.

I've been watching/seeing/reading things about the shooting in Colorado all day. It just makes no sense to me how one person can go and do such a horrible thing that affects so many others. It makes you realize how fragile life truely is. My prayers go out to the victims and their families.
This is the first sooc I've uploaded in a while.. and I actually took it today. Imagine that :)
