There is some species of cactus here that gets this delicate tiara of tiny pink flowers. Kind of cool.

Having just driven over 1500 miles from Denver, across New Mexico, and back to Denver, I didn't think I'd head right back on the road toward Utah, but the invitation to spend the weekend there was too sweet not to accept it.

Besides, with so much to do in Moab between the two National Parks close to each other, not much convincing is required.

The hike to the Delicate Arch remains my favorite when it comes to taking first-timer there. The hike itself is moderate, but a hot summer day can make it feel strenuous. However, that moment when the majestic arch right around the corner at the end of the trail wipes out lemonade dreaming is unforgettable.

As a bonus, I got to drive via Aspen and Independence Pass on my way back, something that I have always thought would be difficult to do at night.

Because of the I-70 closure due to mudslides, I had to take alternate routes both ways. Cunningly, the GPS outsmarted me on choosing the route back - via Aspen, above the Alpine Line, past Mt Elbert (Colorado's tallest peak). After two days of hiking Arches and Canyonland, my nerves almost gave in there in the sky with no guardrails, but somehow they mustered all the focus they could thru the windy, rainy night, making it a memory that I will keep.

Sunset at Delicate Arch in the Arches National Park, Utah. Two or three hundred photographers were gathered here waiting for this shot, chatting, teaching, and just being nice to each other. Then the show began. People moved out of the shot and went silent. Cameras clicked. The light went and we all packed up and made our 2 mile journey back to cars in semi darkness. What a great evening!

A quick scramble up the cliff to catch the light of the rising sun after an amazing sunrise.

The photo is a close-up of a plant with delicate, elongated leaves. The leaves are a pale, almost white color, creating a stark contrast against the dark background. The image has a soft, dreamlike quality, with the leaves appearing to float in space. The focus is on the intricate details of the plant, highlighting its fragility and beauty.

I like the way this looks large. Enough so that I've made a larger print of it to give to my daughter.
