Sunset at Delicate Arch in the Arches National Park, Utah. Two or three hundred photographers were gathered here waiting for this shot, chatting, teaching, and just being nice to each other. Then the show began. People moved out of the shot and went silent. Cameras clicked. The light went and we all packed up and made our 2 mile journey back to cars in semi darkness. What a great evening!

Having just driven over 1500 miles from Denver, across New Mexico, and back to Denver, I didn't think I'd head right back on the road toward Utah, but the invitation to spend the weekend there was too sweet not to accept it.

Besides, with so much to do in Moab between the two National Parks close to each other, not much convincing is required.

The hike to the Delicate Arch remains my favorite when it comes to taking first-timer there. The hike itself is moderate, but a hot summer day can make it feel strenuous. However, that moment when the majestic arch right around the corner at the end of the trail wipes out lemonade dreaming is unforgettable.

As a bonus, I got to drive via Aspen and Independence Pass on my way back, something that I have always thought would be difficult to do at night.

Because of the I-70 closure due to mudslides, I had to take alternate routes both ways. Cunningly, the GPS outsmarted me on choosing the route back - via Aspen, above the Alpine Line, past Mt Elbert (Colorado's tallest peak). After two days of hiking Arches and Canyonland, my nerves almost gave in there in the sky with no guardrails, but somehow they mustered all the focus they could thru the windy, rainy night, making it a memory that I will keep.

Delicate Arch is 60-foot-tall (18 m) freestanding natural arch located in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah, USA. It is the most widely recognized landmark in Arches National Park and is depicted on Utah license plates and on a postage stamp commemorating Utah's centennial anniversary of admission to the Union in 1996. The Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics passed through the arch

This spring we never got any storms like most recent springs, and this allowed me to enjoy these cherry flowers a lot long than usual : )

Yesterday evening, 24 March 2016, we had a mix of snow and rain falling and I felt like finding something bright and cheery to post this morning. At least in my area of the city, no snow had settled anywhere, which was a relief. The ground is wet, which is desperately needed, especially for farmers. The temperature is 4C and the sky is a mix of cloud and small patches of blue sky. The next two days look good (Easter weekend), but mixed precipitation is in the forecast for the coming week.

The graceful curves and delicate shading of pink across the spathe of this anthurium variety versus the geometric precision of the little bumps on the spadix caught my eye. Found in the Palm room of the Lincoln Park Botanical Garden.

From the Antherium Hawaii website:

In summary, the anthurium flower consists of the following parts. The spathe, which everyone calls a flower, but which is actually just a glorified leaf; the spadix, which is the actual flower; and the stigma and stamen, which are the female and male parts of the flower that appear as tiny bumps.
