Having arrived at Laira in the early hours 50049 was due to hook up to her stock and head straight back to Long Marston. Thankfully her 0300ish departure didn't materialise and all eyes were on RTT and SWRG for any intel on her intended departure time.
Eventually 1400 hrs was entered as her departure time. Perfect.
I checked out a few likely spots for the shot but the winter sun was going to cause me more problems than I had expected. Still time in the bag so I headed for one of my old faithful locations.
The sun was more out than in but as always 5 minutes before arrival the whole river was plunged into shade. Just as i was halfway through my Basil Fawlty impression the one where he says "Thank you God" whilst shaking his fist at the sky, out popped the Sun to illuminate a short stretch of Line. Bingpot !
So....50049 on the late running 0300 Laira to Long Marston 5Z50 stock move in-between Red Rock and Flow Point along the beautiful River Teign and a glint thrown in for good measure.
ISO-1600. Just applied cropping.
Just one of my 400+ shots from the circus show last weekend.

* This shot would I think defy any straightening software. Both The Two Towers are leaning very significantly. At the heart of the city they are the symbol of Bologna. They are located at the intersection of the roads that lead to the five gates of the old ring wall (mura dei torresotti). The taller one is called the Asinelli while the smaller but more leaning tower is called the Garisenda. Their names derive from the families, which are traditionally credited for their construction between 1109 and 1119. Their construction was a competition between the two families to show which was the more powerful family.
The Asinelli tower rises 318 feet (97 metres) and slopes seven feet to the West. The smaller tower Garisenda once rose to 197 feet but it had 39 feet lopped off the height in the mid fourteenth century for safety reasons. Garisenda leans full 11 feet to the North East. It is possible to climb the 425 steps to the top of the Asinelli Tower but I did not risk my knees
It hard to imagine but Dante knew these towers well and are cited several times by in the Divine Comedy
Considering their size they proved rather difficult to photograph and this is probably the best of the many shots I took of them
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE A COMMENT IT’S MUCH APPRECIATED AND SO MUCH MORE INTRESTING THAN JUST GIVING A FAVE

This Black Necked Stilt looks like it should fall over standing with all its weight to one side. It was catching some quick power naps, I do that a lot too, usually right in the middle of doing something else.

The surface tension of water allows a drop to adhere to the side of the plastic cup where a larger drop would slide down. The image within the drop is remarkably clear considering that the picture was taken through both sides of the cup and the window pane.
Why fly in the pitch when the castle makes an excellent obstacle course...
Why wear a helmet when your hair looks good...
Why bother taking precautions when the school has a hospital wing...someone’s got to keep the matron busy.
A Giant Manta Ray (Manta birostris) cartwheels through the black water, filtering out plankton. Diving with these huge animals was a spiritual experience...these rays seem to defy all logic and form, moving with the grace and nimbleness of a small fish, as if their 1000+ pounds of mass was a farce.
These animals are at risk throughout much of their range as they are still harvested for their fins for medicinal purposes. Each harvested manta nets only a fraction of what an alive animal would bring in terms of ecotourism revenue. Luckily, there are organizations out there that are helping spread this message to local communities and helping start ecotourism ventures in these places to help save these magnificent creatures. Hopefully with this help, the manta ray can not only defy their form, but defy the odds against survival.
I cannot wait until my next encounter with a manta; I'm sure it will be just as magical as this one.

Anyway hope you all had a great Christmas and got lots of goodies.
I love the volume and the weight of the clouds. It appears there should be no way they could possibly float against the forces of gravity.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I'm a huge bear fan. I also have a thing for numbers. That being said, I've been thinking a lot about bears lately ... especially the coastal brown bears of Katmai. So last night I was wondering how long it had been since I saw and photographed my last Katmai brown bear.... that number was 542 days!!! My yearning to return to the vast wilderness of Katmai National Park & Preserve, where the brown bears roam freely across the varied (though always gorgeous) landscape. Whether they are feeding on the sedge grasses, berries, clams, or my personal favorite, the salmon, they are impressive animals to observe and photograph. It's an experience that has changed me from my first visit into their "home" and I have such appreciation for these creatures. That awe of their strength, beauty, and "free to be bears" feeling has stayed with me after over a dozen of trips. It's truly my happy place.
Spending time with the bears, whether in Alaska or elsewhere, is truly my happy place. But it's truly in jeopardy.
I don't generally place my political views in the context of my images, but in this case, I can't help but do my part to spread the word. A recent post by the "Alt National Park Service" is contained below and I find myself sickened by it:
"Rep. Don Young – Alaska’s sole Congressman, formerly a licensed trapper — is seeking to unwind a carefully crafted decision by experts working on the ground and managing our national wildlife refuges in Alaska. His resolution (H.J.Res.69), enabled under the Congressional Review Act, would not only allow the killing of bears and wolves in and around their dens, but it would allow trophy hunters to use aircraft to scout and chase grizzly bears and then land and shoot them. It would also allow the use of giant leghold traps and snares to kill grizzly bears and black bears. Please call your representative to help protect our wildlife the proceedings during the period from February 17, 2017, through February 24, 2017!"
I ask for everyone's support to reach out to their representatives about Don Young's H.J.Res. 69.
Our wildlife needs our protection, so please add your voice to speak up for those who can't speak for themselves.
I hope that I didn't offend anyone with this post, but as I said, I simply cannot stay silent on this one.
Thanks everyone for allowing me to share and vent my frustration. Now ... I'll step down from my soapbox.

Defying Gravity”
Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts, close my eyes and leap!
It’s time to try
Defying gravity
I think I’ll try
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I’m defying gravity
And you won’t bring me down
I’m through accepting limits ’cause someone says they’re so
Some things I cannot change but ’til I try, I’ll never know!
Too long I’ve been afraid of losing love I guess I’ve lost
Well, if that’s love, it comes at much too high a cost!
I’d sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I’m defying gravity
I think I’ll try
Defying gravity
And you won’t bring me down
Unlimited (unlimited)
My future is (future is) unlimited (unlimited)
And I’ve just had a vision
Almost like a prophecy
I know it sounds truly crazy
And true, the vision’s hazy
But I swear, someday I’ll be…
Flying so high! (defying gravity)
Kiss me goodbye! (defying gravity)
So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky!
As someone told me lately,
“Everyone deserves the chance to fly!”
I’m defying gravity!
And you won’t bring me down, bring me down, bring me down!
Ah, ah [echo]
I will not reveal how many shots I took before getting this one.

Hey guys, I told you yesterday I was moving forward photgraphy wise. Here's what I meant:
I finally made an etsy shop! I've listed two items for sale and more are coming up. I need your help to let me know which ones I should list. And if you have any requests, let me know. I'm so excited!
Also, I found out I sold almost 200 dollars worth of photo's via Getty Images in July! What a great boost! It's a great headstart for saving up for a photography course in London soon! YAY!

I have photographed these chaps before, but this is an altogether different view of these 2 dinosaur rides in Long Buckby rec.
