Shot for flicker Friday - #DefyingGravity

A gorgeous burst of late-season colour. These Osteospermum (or African Daisies) are defying the calendar, offering one last, fiery display as the days grow shorter. I love how the vibrant, almost luminous orange of the petals contrasts with the moody, deep green background—it's a great example of the unexpected beauty you find when you look closely at the garden winding down for the year. The low-angle light perfectly highlights the texture and velvety-dark centre of the bloom."

"Defying Gravity"

Too long I've been afraid of

Losing love, I guess I've lost

Well, if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost

I'd sooner buy defying gravity

Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity

I think I'll try defying gravity

And you won't bring me down

Early morning walk in NYC - some of us were going a little faster (or slower depending on your point of reference) than others

Droplet

More light rain this morning, lots of droplets around.

Taken at Hart Plaza, Detroit, Michigan.

They say a schoolgirl should not hang out so late at night. Then again, I have my power to product me.

The Beluga no4 airbus lining up to land at Hawarden (Chester) airport. to load up wings to take to Europe for assembly.

With rain slicked rails, 50 loads, and an uphill grade, CKINs sole SD40 was having a difficult time getting up to speed after wying the locomotive in LaCrosse. And after having loading issues, the long unit train is seen here screaming out of LaCrosse.

Special thanks to the farm owners for letting me back here.

This damselfly was lucky enough to find itself living in a tropical hothouse in our local arboretum. Normally an adult would not be alive in February, but in this way it has cheated winter.

This is a close up shot of the Arbutus trees from the previous pano. I had a fellow tell me the last image was too distracting having the stairs in it, so here is the shot I took of just the trees. Now everyone is happy... Almost. Kris...

Happy Easter Weekend to all of you...

This was one of those "pure luck" catches of mine from just spending a hell of a lot of my time trackside on the North Toronto. At this point in time, it was still under a year since CP had assumed control of the CMQ Railway and the fleet of blue SD40-2Fs was roaming the entire system primarily on work trains. I don't think I was expecting much to happen this day, but CMQ 9011's activities were being monitored by a bunch of the local rail fans, and I remember reports of it moving around by itself in Toronto Yard earlier in the day. I was hanging out for the afternoon at Rosedale, and after hearing an eastbound mention to 421 over the radio about their 'unusual lead unit" after meeting them, I knew it had to be something interesting. Set up for my frame, and watched 421 round the bend with the solo blue barn in the lead. With only around 45 empties on the drawbar, the cowl-bodied SD40 handles the train with relative ease, and somewhat surprisingly maintained as the only unit powering the train all the way to it's terminal destination of Winnipeg.

Look closely and you will see the water looking like it's popping out.

Defying the odds and breaking the rules. Even Mother Nature does it. This English shrub rose, Golden Celebration, bred by David Austin Roses arrived and was potted with expectation of roses in Spring. Pleasantly, it throws a single tiny 2 inch bud just yesterday afternoon! Look forward to a pot full of blooms come Spring. :0)

I mean, look at those tiny little tarsi! It doesn't seem possible for them to hold the bird upside down.

Now Playing Defying Gravity

Something has changed within me

Something is not the same

I'm through with playing by the rules of someone else's game

Too late for second-guessing

Too late to go back to sleep

It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes, and leap...

It's time to try defying gravity

Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity

I think I'll try defying gravity

You can't bring me down

I'm through accepting limits 'cause someone says they're so

Some things I cannot change, but 'til I try, I'll never know

Too long I've been afraid of losing love I guess I've lost

Well if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost

I'd sooner buy defying gravity

Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity

I think I'll try defying gravity

You can't bring me down

Unlimited, our future is unlimited

And I've just had a vision almost like a prophecy

I know it sounds truly crazy

And true, the vision's hazy

But I swear someday I'll be

Flying so high

Kiss me goodbye

So if you care to find me, look to the Western sky!

As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly

And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free

To those who ground me, take a message back from me!

Tell them how I am defying gravity

I'm flying high, defying gravity

And soon I'll match them in renown

And nobody in all of Oz

No Wizard that there is or was

Is ever gonna bring me down!

Came for the colour stayed for the show..

First decently hot summers day this year with typical afternoon storm to wind up the day.

Well a little bit more than typical arvo storm .. really blasted thru - much wind and rain.

Decided to wait it out for after the front to pass and try to catch some possible light afterwards - more on that in the next couple of days .. but the storms just ekpt coming was favoured with four quite tasty frames for the trouble.

A grand display of Cirrus clouds loomed over Kurri Kurri cemetery yesterday, heralding an approaching weather front. I was struck by how one grave monument stood way above all others and seemed to be trying to defy the clouds' approach.

I snapped a simple photo of pigeons flying through a bland white sky this afternoon; and had it my head to process it like a vintage wallpaper.

It's a lot more processing than I usually do, and it's certainly not my usual style, but I really like the way this turned out in the end.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Not even sure what it is, but it is defying gravity.
