Organized-colorful-chaos... but definitively a charming place.
BTW I forgot my lens hood, so I have that lens flare picture decoration :p

I've been playing with blowing-out the highlights in a controlled manner (and without burning my retina in the process), and I'm quite happy with this one. Any advice from your experience?

The Beast of Bladenboro is a cryptid legend from Bladenboro, North Carolina, that dates back to the winter of 1953–54. During this time, residents reported a series of gruesome animal killings, primarily involving dogs and livestock. Witnesses described the creature as a large, cat-like beast with glowing eyes and immense strength. Some accounts even claimed the victims were drained of blood, adding a chilling vampire-like element to the story.
The panic led to hunting parties and widespread media coverage, turning the Beast of Bladenboro into a national sensation. Despite the efforts to capture or identify the creature, no definitive evidence was found. Some believe it was a wildcat or panther, while others think the events were exaggerated or fabricated.
Over the years, the legend has persisted, with occasional sightings and stories keeping the mystery alive. Today, Bladenboro embraces its cryptid history with an annual Beast Fest, celebrating the tale and attracting visitors from far and wide.

I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr.
I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.
By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!
thx, stampolina
For the case you wanna send also stamps - it is possible. (...I'm pretty sure you'll see these stamps on this photostream on flickr :) thx!

Austria, with 38 km2 of water and a shoreline of 27 km, has a very small share of the 571.5 km2 area of Lake Constance; in addition, the Fussach bay silts up rather quickly with the deposits from the Rhine, a consequence of the regulation of the estuary in 1906 and 1923. In this relatively clean lake in the foothills of the Alps, often referred to as the "Swabian Sea", there are a remarkable 35 species of fish such as perch, pike and eel. The "Lake Constance Conference" was established in 1972 and comprises the surrounding regions of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, the Swiss cantons of Schaffhausen, St. Gallen and Thurgau and the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. Its functions include cross-border cooperation in the field of conservation and the prevention of water pollution, which is of major of health and economic importance with regard to tourism and the water supply to the hinterland.
The new definitive by Adolf Tuma shows a particularly impressive perspective of the luxury paddle steamer "Hohentwiel" built by the Swiss shipyard Escher Wyss & Cie from 1911 to 1913 and restored in the years 1984-90 by the "International Lake Constance Navigation Museum" association. With its 950 HP and a top speed of 31 km/h, the ship is still today the fastest on Lake Constance and is a popular tourist attraction thanks to its Art Nouveau furnishings.
I guess I have a new thing after 'EX.' cuz this is definitely the best shot out of the whole shoot, perhaps along with EX IV - JESSICA!

Updated changes as of July 2007. The way Explore works is not static, but seems to be always in development.
MY ORIGINAL POST HERE
As of November, 2006, features of explore include:
1) limitations on the number of photos by one photographer per month (currently this appears to be between 2 and 5)
2) Photos selected for explore depend on the average of the photographer's other photos. The higher your average, the tougher it is for your photo to get into explore.
3) The monthly photo "cap" is slowly being rolled out in reverse date order. It seems to be at about March of 2005 right now. That means that the few people who have high numbers in Explore usually have been around since nearly the beginning of flickr (June 1, 2004)
4) Photos pop in and out of explore for the first 3-4 months, then stabilize. Especially if you have more than the upper limit (3-5) that deserve to be in explore according to the algorhithm, Explore will cycle through them all to give more of your photos a chance the first few months. This is purposeful, and not an accident.
5) A simpler way to get a feel for which of you photos has been well received over the long run is to check the most "popular" of you own photos. Since the change many that were in explore may now be gone from explore, but if you do a SEARCH on a tag, then sort by "most interesting", they will probably still be near the top.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't be concerned if you are not getting into Explore if you are a very popular photographer. Actually it is currently a badge of HONOR for a photo with 50 or more faves NOT make it into explore. It means that you are getting quite enough views and popularity with your own following !! Forget competition, since Explore only really shows everybody their best 2-4 photos for a given month, as a maximum. Flickr was meant for inspiration, encouragement, enjoyment, and FUN. . .
For more details or a more comprehensive elaboration, see my first comment below (which is still in development)
My appreciation and thanks to all of you for your comments, awards, and faves throughout 2014. Happy New Year 2015 !
I definitively love this place : "Miroir d'eau" (Water Mirror in English), in Bordeaux, France.. Besides, you can see more photos I took of this place in the "Bordeaux" set...
When a photographer, or a tourist, comes in Bordeaux, he always takes a photo of this place… and the problem of that is that there are so many photos of the “Miroir d’eau” (a thin film of water on the floor, make great reflection effects, and sometimes produces a mist) with children playing with water, with the reflection of the opposite “Place de la Bourse”, of the sky, etc… that makes it hard to take a creative photo here.
After an evening shooting here, I decided to go back home as the light getting rare at sunset, with no interesting pictures… But just before leaving, I saw this woman, standing here, a bit lost, staring into space, just when the mist comes up from the water mirror, and surprisingly, all the crowd who likes staying here just left at this particular moment…
This woman was here, for sure, but on this photo the contrast was so intense between the colors of the sunset and the black women underexposed make an impression of emptiness. It seems that someone cuts with scissors the silhouette of this woman… Despite, we still can see some detail of the face, and legs.
That’s why I called this one “Absence” , a melancholic reminiscence of a close person…
Description:
A small selection of classic Dutch definitive stamps featuring the profile of Queen Wilhelmina Issued in the mid-20th century, these vibrantly colored values—ranging from 5 to 25 cents—represent a familiar and iconic period in the postal history of the Netherlands. Their simple yet elegant design and varied hues make them a timeless favorite among collectors.
High resolution print or downloads of this photo are available @ riccardomantero.smugmug.com
Please have the patience to watch it at a decent size here bit.ly/1b7WwyC
This photo took almost half an hour to be taken, in fact it is composed of 21 long expositions at high resolution (36Mp) assembled with the Autpoano pro 3.0 software and developed with Aperture and Pixelmator (sadly just 8 bit Tiff due to the huge size). All expositions are 10 seconds long, so I can say the whole image counts 10 second exposition!! All of those photos were made with a normal tripod and non an automated head (but I want to buy one). Even this one was one of the shots I always wanted to do in Manhattan, but not with -5 deg C°!!! The final result is an huge picture full of tiny details (the Statue of liberty or you can count the stars on the american flag on the bridge), the definitive resolution is a 31801x8908 (283Mp) which can be printed up to the impressive measures of about 270x76cm (106x30 inches) if printed without rescaling, or on a more handy panel of about 180x50 (70x20 inches). The total aspect ratio is 100:357. Feel free to contact me if you want a print!
I have just received the results of my MRi from Kings this morning and I am afraid it is bad news. I have finally had a definitive diagnosis of Hippocampal Atrophy, a type of progressive and untreatable neurological disorder. However the symptoms fit the disorder like a glove, long and short term memory loss, loss of spacial navigation ie getting lost even in familiar places, loss of recall, amnesia and cognition disorders. So, a bit to process here but I had my suspicions, I have an appointment at Kings in April and have been referred to a dementia/memory clinic automatically. On the up-side if there is an up-side to all this, my critical illness cover will kick in!
Finalization of Composition with two parrots (Cat.V., No. 881) was not completed until 1939. It was prepared in 1933 by an oil study entitled Les Perroquets (Basel, Coll. where most of the elements appear, then through a series of studies (oil, ink, gouache or pencil) focusing on a particular fragment. The final version is a real wall of painting, almost rivaling the frescoes of Mexican muralists. On the immense rectangle, very densely filled, more or less abstract motifs and giant figures are distributed harmoniously: in the center, a pyramid composed of a large crouching female figure wearing a small acrobat; on the left, a couple, the man standing in a striped shirt, the woman unfurled around and above him; on the right, the combination of the scale and the chord, already identified in Composition with the three figures. As in this last painting, blue floating shapes circulate behind the figures and connect them together. The massiveness of the characters, still accentuated here, does not exclude a general impression of lightness, dancing suppleness.
Considered by Léger as one of his most accomplished works, the composition with two parrots was exhibited in Paris, one day, April 15, 1940, in the studio of his friend Mary Callery, before being sent to New York, and to remain there all the time of the war
Thankfully Barbara realises that I’m a friend not a foe and sheathes her batarang. For a moment there it looked like she was actually going to throw it at me even after she realised who it was.
Batgirl: Next time tell me before you sneak up on me.
Nightwing: Sorry, I forgot you don’t like surprises. Good or bad.
Batgirl: Are you ever going to let that go?
Nightwing: Not until you tell me why you said no.
Batgirl: You’re really answering your own question simply by asking.
Cryptic as ever I see. Maybe one day she’ll tell me why she said no. Until then, the job goes on. I notice Barbara slowly inject something into what can only be the loading chamber before slamming the door shut and quickly stepping back.
Nightwing: I take it that’s Lucius’ way of dealing with the gas?
Batgirl: Yeah, it should neutralise it all being well. Here take this.
Barbara throws me a small syringe that was in the drop pod. The liquid inside the syringe is dark brown and there’s only 1 ml of it inside. What gift has Lucius given us now?
Nightwing: Is this?
Batgirl: The compound that neutralises Lazarus? No. It’s a inoculant against the toxin. Once the tower’s shut offline the concentration of it in the air should be low enough for us to not need the masks once we’ve been injected with it.
Nightwing: Great, and I just love needles.
Before Barbara can respond or tell me to stop acting like a baby, she’s quite fond of calling me that when we’re out in the field, I remove my left gauntlet and inject myself.
I turn around to see Barbara doing the same with the exact same arm.
Batgirl: Ow.
Nightwing: Stop acting like a baby.
She can’t help but laugh at me using her usual retort against her.
Batgirl: Alright, that one was pretty funny.
Nightwing: You make it sound like they usually aren’t.
Batgirl: The less said about that, the better. How are you legs?
Nightwing Couldn’t be better. Both cuts have been expertly stitched if I do say so myself.
A quick glance at the small tears in my suit is all she needs to come to a conclusion on that claim.
Batgirl: They’re actually not that bad.
Nightwing: What can I say, I’m an expert.
Batgirl: Let’s not get carried awa…
Barbara’s cut off as Bruce’s oh so pleasant voices comes through on the comms.
Batman: Batman to all units. Report in.
Nightwing: East tower reporting.
Red Robin: West tower here.
…..
Batman: South tower, report in.
…….
Batman: What’s going on, Alfred?
Alfred: Difficult to say, sir. I’ll keep trying to connect you.
Batman: Let me know the moment you do.
Red Robin: Is everything alright, Bruce?
Batman: We can’t raise the Outlaws. Hopefully it’s just an equipment fault. East tower, give me a status report.
Batgirl: East tower is offline. Toxin concentration is dropping rapidly. All being well it’ll be harmless within the hour.
Batman: West tower?
Red Robin: There were complications but we managed to get it offline.
Batman: And Ubu?
Talia: ….Neutralised.
Neutralised? What does she mean by that? If anyone else on the team said that I’d interpret it as defeated and restrained, but with how little all of us except Bruce know about Talia I can’t help but wonder…
Batman: Restrained?
Talia: Neutralised.
Batman: Understood.
Definitely dead. The tone in Bruce’s voice makes that perfectly clear. A touch of sadness combined with a pinch of sympathy. He’s evidently not pleased that a life has been taken but seems to understand why Talia would do it. Personally, I just don’t think she knows how to deal with an opponent beyond killing them.
From what Bruce said, Jason was in a similar state after he spent time training with the League following his resurrection. Thank god I’ve never had to worry about those thoughts racing through my head.
Nighwing: I take it this means the north tower is offline as well.
Batman: Affirmative. The League is moving to phase two. Having split us up across Gotham they’ve accomplished the goal that the gas was intended to distract us from.
Red Robin: They’ve sprung him?
Batman: Most likely.
Batgirl: That doesn’t sound like a definitive yes….
Nightwing: They’ll have tripped the cave’s motions sensors, that’s how he knows they’ve freed him.
He knows they’ve released Damian from custody. Bruce never likes to pass on information he’s not certain of.
Talia: If that’s the case, Beloved, they’ll be coming for you.
Batman: That’s what I’m counting on. In the meantime, the League will be moving to cripple the city so it’s unable to stop the Arkham inmates once they’re set free.
Nightwing Arkham? Why do they want to release the inmates at Arkham?
Red Robin: To do their dirty work for them. Why dirty your hands when there’s a bunch of psychos willing to do it for you.
Batgirl: Not to mention it avoids drawing too much attention to themselves. Helps them to remain the shadows where they’re most comfortable.
Nightwing: Then let’s draw them out. How long will it take you guys to make it to Arkham?
Batman: You’re not going to Arkham.
Nightwing: What?
We’re not going to Arkham? Why? If the League is hoping to free the inmates and let them rampage through Gotham then surely we should do everything we can to stop them.
Batgirl: You can’t be serious?
Batman: The Outlaws will deal with Arkham. I need the pair of you to reinforce the GCPD and secure the lockup.
Batgirl: You think they’re going to target the GCPD?
There’s a very brief stutter from Barbara as she says ‘GCPD’, she’s clearly worried about her father being put in danger….again. It’s oddly surprising in some respect. He puts his life on the line almost every single day and yet she worries. I guess that’s what happens when you still have a parent you can count on.
If she worries for him though I dread to think what he would be doing if he knew she was Batgirl and that she’d come back to Gotham specifically for this night.
Talia: They’d be foolish not to. With our numbers so small in comparison to theirs, the only way we could hope to contain a breakout at Arkham is with the GCPD’s assistance. If they truly want to break us, they’ll try to take the GCPD out of the picture.
Batgirl: Dad…
I slowly walk up to her and place my right hand on her left shoulder to comfort her.
Nightwing: We’re on it.
Red Robin: What about me?
Batman: I’m feeding co-ordinates to a cache near your location, there should be equipment there that you’ll both need to reinforce Selina at Gotham General.
Red Robin: What about you?
Batman: …..
Nightwing: You can’t be serious.
He’s can’t be about to do what I think he is…
Batman: I have to try and talk to him. Maybe, just maybe…
Talia: Bruce, you can’t negotiate with someone when you’re at their mercy. You of all people should understand that……..I’m coming with you
Batgirl: Are you both suicidal?
Sometimes, with how Bruce acts, it’s difficult to tell.
Alfred: Sir, we both know there’s a good chance that Ra’s set those alarms off intentionally. If you go there alone…
Talia: He’s not going alone. I’m coming with you, Bruce.
Batman: No, you’re needed at Gotham General, Talia.
Talia: I’m not letting you kill yourself. I’m going with you.
Red Robin: Selina and I can secure Gotham General. If you’re going to face him, you shouldn’t be going alone.
Batman: I’ll be fine. Our priority has to be stopping them from destroying Gotham.
Nightwing: And how are we going to do that if you’re dead?
Talia: I’m on my way to you now. Don’t you dare move until I’m there.
Batman: ….
Bruce says nothing for a change. It’s actually rather nice. He knows that there’s nothing he can do to make us change our minds.
Batgirl: Alright, Dick and I are getting ready to head over to GCPD. It’ll take us some time to get there. Tim?
Red Robin: The cache’s location has just been uploaded to my cowl, I’m heading there now before rendezvousing with Selina at Gotham General.
Alfred: Ms. Al-Ghul I’ve dispatched the Batwing to your position. It should be with you in a few moments.
Talia: Roger, bunker. Any word from the Outlaws?
Alfred: Nothing yet, I’ll keep trying and relay their orders to them once I make contact.
Nightwing: Let us know if you still can’t get through to them. Nightwing out.
As we both sever the connection Barbara begins to use the controls on her gauntlet for something which I don’t manage to catch a glimpse of.
Nightwing: What are you doing?
Batgirl: Patching us into the CCTV feed at GCPD. Making sure we’re not walking into a trap.
She scrolls through multiple feeds quickly before stopping on the feed of her father’s office and watching him for a few moments.
Nightwing: Do you want to call him?
Batgirl:….No. That’ll just waste time. Come on, let’s get moving.
We make our way up to the roof of the tower in order to get our bearings and both spot Arkham on the a hill to the south of us.
Nightwing: You don’t fancy a trip to Arkham do you?
Batgirl: I’m sure Jason and co can handle it.
Nightwing: I was joking.
Batgirl: I know. So who’s going first?
Nightwing: After you, m’lady.
Batgirl: You sure you can keep up?
Nightwing: Hey! Who trained who?
She rolls her eyes at that one but it also does it’s job. It makes her smile.
Batgirl: Try and keep up Boy Wonder!
Nightwing: After you, Batlady.
She hates it when I call her that. But she also loves it.
Rather than respond, she races forward and jumps off the edge before starting to glide towards the GCPD. Once I see that she’s safely away, I quickly follow after her activating my wing suit as I jump off the edge. Next stop: GCPD.
I had to try a Bresson. Waited for a long time. Finally found a frame, with a lot of pattern repitations in the background. Waited for my subject to hit the Dead Center of my frame. And Luckily he was Silhouetted against the bright back ground.

A colourful selection of classic Dutch definitive stamps featuring the profile of Queen Juliana, issued during the mid-20th century. These denominations in green, grey, blue, magenta, violet and deep blue represent a well-known part of the Netherlands’ postal history. A lovely mix of postmarked examples showing the elegant engraved style typical of this iconic series.
Surrounded by iconic buildings and structures on all sides, the Marina Bay basin is perhaps the most Singapore of Singapore. Some of the definitive architecture found within this waterfront neighbourhood include the Singapore Flyer, Art Science Museum, Marina Bay Sands, URA City Gallery, Merlion Park, Esplanade Bridge and Esplanade Theatre.
The marina is beautiful when viewed or photographed from any angle day or night. But when it comes to getting a photographic perspective that is unmistakably Singapore, then a visit to the Merlion Park is a must.
Home to our nation's tourism Mascot, the Merlion, the coastal park includes a viewing deck that offers a great vantage point to take in all of Marina Bay.
