Definitively completed in the Swabian period, the Cathedral of Cefalù, which became a World Heritage Site in 2015, can now also be visited in its towers.
Built starting in 1131, its Romanesque style is enriched by Arab influences, and its appearance is pure wonder.
It is also possible to climb its Norman towers, which are different from each other: one is the square-plan tower, with battlements in the shape of flames, which would symbolize the papal miter and the power of the Church; the other is the octagonal-plan tower with Ghibelline merlons which would instead pay homage to the royal crown and the temporal power.

Nondescript warbler, generally olive-colored overall, but different populations vary from grayer to brighter yellow. Overall very plain and unmarked, but note short darkish line through eye and thin pale eye arcs. Forages for insects in scrubby areas, woodland edge, and thickets. Namesake orange crown is very difficult to see, and usually only a faint wash at best. More common in western North America, from Alaska to Mexico, where populations are brighter yellow-green. Birds in eastern North America are scarcer and drabber, often with a more contrasting grayish head. Bright yellow undertail coverts help separate Orange-crowned from the similarly drab Tennessee Warbler. (eBird)
These plain warblers are wickedly difficult to find at home so I was very pleased to see this one sitting out in the open, albeit high in the tree.

I've been very happily involved with photographing and Flickr-blogging for the Enchantment: Lord of the Rings event this past February and seem to have found myself turning to all things elvish. I've always loved the elves of LOTR ~ they're so beautiful, mystical, noble, and so wonderfully TALL. My typist is not so wonderfully tall, however, so I guess that's *one* of the many reasons I'm drawn to them.
Pictured here are three of my bento heads. I've found, as with Strawberry, that I no longer to have a "go-to look" that I can say definitively is "ME" as with back in the old days, because I change how I look all the time, sometimes three or more times a day! I love finding just the right bento mesh head to go with whichever ensemble I'm photographing to showcase the outfit at its best. It's both challenging and fun - and so gratifying when I get it right.
In any case, some of my latest and favorite bento mesh heads from left to right: LeLutka Vera Bento Head, second, Catwa Blueberry Bento Head, and third, the GENUS Babyface Bento Head. These are by no means, ALL of my bento mesh heads, or all of my favorites...these are simply some that I particularly love to wear, but you'll notice on my Flickr page, I wear LOTS of different heads!

The North American P51 Mustang was designed in response to a British specification in 1940 for a long range fighter. The original P51A was a superb aircraft, but only below 15,000ft, whereas the air war at that time was predominately being conducted at higher altitudes. A Rolls Royce engineer suggested fitting a Spitfire engine to the Mustang, and this transformed its performance, enabling it to compete with the Luftwaffe fighters at higher altitudes. The P51D model in the picture is the definitive version fitted with a Packard built version of the RR Merlin 66 engine. As well as the RAF, the Mustang served with the USAAF and, fitted with additional external fuel tanks, had the range to accompany B17 bombers from England to Germany and back.
Small grayish flycatcher, very similar to other flycatchers, especially Dusky and Gray. Subtle differences include smaller bill with limited pale base, slightly more peaked crown, and longer wingtips. Also note habitat during breeding season: Hammond's prefers mature conifers, often seen higher up in trees than Dusky. Habitat overlaps more with other flycatchers during migration and winter; found in a variety of brushy wooded habitats. Back is greenish with a yellow wash to belly; fall birds in fresh plumage are brighter than spring and summer birds. Voice is key to identification, especially call notes: high-pitched "peek" and whistled "peer." Without an excellent view, silent birds often best left unidentified. (eBird)

Definitely the subject we shoot the most. They are so beautiful so we never get bored.
This image was taken on the way back from Mt Cook to Lake Tekapo in New Zealand. Racing to get back to the little Good Shepherd Church before sunset . I realised we weren't going to make it so we pulled off to the side of the road.
I tried to capture the sun, weaving its light through the Lupins before it disappeared.
Though it is not the image I was after that evening, I was reasonably happy with the off the cuff result. Power-lines and all.
Oh and yes we definitively decided on Harpo. Thanks for all your lovely comments and welcomes to our beautiful mischief maker boy.
Definitively my cats don't like high temperatures.
They prefer the snow, like me :-)
The new weather prediction said that on Friday it will be 43°C/109.4°F :-O)
Guiding friends from Netherlands (who got +200 lifers in 2 weeks with me), they asked me to drive to see what was happening around Río San Juan, just next to Nicaragua border. I was expecting to find Green Macaws (we did find them later!), but first we found, unexpectedly, 3 Scarlet Macaws feeding on a big tree, in the middle of a cow pasture. They are pretty uncommon in northern Caribe. It seems they were 1 establised couple with 1 intruder, event which gave us some interesting action shots: 2 were feeding on a big bromeliad, third one was trying to steal the bride.
Since it was very early in the morning, sun was just in front of us so we had to use a lot of compensation exposure. A minute they were very quiet and nex minute they were fighting, and I got a lot of cropped birds on the photos =S , some of them over or under exposed too. In 5 minutes of action we got some sweet images showing their very special behaviour. Definitively, birds with great personality.

After three months of working on my pictures, I finally made the definitive (?) selection. A lot of work, that took me probably about 300 hours or so.
More than 1800 are rather worthwhile to show, and some of them are truly spectacular. I know it is not very modest to say that of my own pictures, but I am not sure if false modesty is a better way of not expressing my own feelings. But judge for yourselves.
This picture was taken at Iskanderkul (the lake of Alexander), and it is situated in the northwest of Tajikistan, in the Fann-mountains. I am not sure if it was named after Alexander the great, the stories are somewhat vague on this matter, but what is sure is that the dacha of the Tajik president is situated at the east end of the lake.
We spent two days at this lake, and although this scenery is fantastic it took me a lot of pictures to capture its grandness. Not only the lake but the surrounding mountains are so stunning you don't know where to look all the time. Enjoy!
20 September I came back from my journey over a part of the Silk Road to and through Central Asia. 4 months of traveling through 14 countries (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran) before I flew home from Teheran. An impressive journey in countries that are extremely beautiful, with lovely and welcoming people and diverse cultures and history.
Intense traveling with more than 20000 kilometers in our mobile home on sometimes roads that hardly could be called that way. We saw many villages and cities (some wonderful, others very ugly), countries that are transforming from the old Soviet era into something more related to older cultures and the way people live, often funded by oil readily available around the Caspian sea. We saw the amazing mountains south of the Black Sea, the wonderful Caucasus, and the high mountains in the far east close to China with peaks over 7000 meter, and not to forget the (Bulgarian) Alps!
We crossed the great steppe of Kazakhstan. a drive of at least 5000 km, the remnants of lake Aral, once one of the biggest lakes of the world, saw a rocket launch from Baikonur (this little part is Russian owned), we crossed many high mountains passes, and drove the breathtaking canyon that comes from the Pamir, beginning at ca 4500 meter, and going down for ca. 400km to an altitude of 1300 meter, driving for 100's of kilometers along the Afghan border.
And then the numerous lakes with all sorts of different colors from deep cobalt blue to turquoise, and one rare spectacle in Turkmenistan where a gas crater is burning already for more than 40 years. And finally and certainly not the least to mention an enormous amount of wonderful, hospitable and welcoming people. The woman often dressed in wonderful dresses, and bringing a lot of color in the streets of almost of all countries we visited.

The castle of the Dukes of Brittany is a defensive and pleasure castle located in Nantes. The castle has been listed as a historical monument since 1840. The castle was built in the 15th century with elements added in the 14th to the 18th century. Founded by the Dukes of Brittany in the 13th century to constitute a defensive base in Nantes, the castle became, under François II, the main Breton ducal residence. His military function was also used by the Duke during the Mad War during which he opposed the King of France. His daughter, Duchess Anne, was later forced to marry two successive kings of France, Charles VIII and Louis XII. These marriages lead to the union of Brittany with France, definitively sealed by an edict signed at the castle in 1532, by François Ier. Consequently, the castle loses its status of ducal residence to become a royal fortress. It sees most of the kings of France pass, when they visit Brittany, and it is the official residence of the governors of the province. However, the stays of the latter are often brief, with the notable exception of the Duke of Mercœur, a governor who held a court there during the Wars of Religion. Under the Ancien Régime, the castle also served as a state prison, as well as barracks and military arsenal. It did not undergo any degradation during the Revolution, but the explosion of the powder reserves in 1800 destroyed a good part of the monument. Property of the city of Nantes from 1915, it became a museum in 1924. From 1990 to 2007, it benefited from a large-scale renovation and, since 2007, it has housed the Nantes History Museum.

Definitively kicking myself for this shot. I was taking another kinds of pictures when I saw this image. The person was walking very quickly, so I rapidly made change some settings (primarily the exposure compensation, since it was the quickest way I saw to start capturing at a fast speed, without changing the ISO on the go) and started shooting.
The excitement got me: Aperture was way to open and couldn't focus on the person. The result is obvious: Soft trees and the subject blurry. I think it had the potential of being a great shot. It's a shame I ruined it.
