this was for class. we had to let paint names inspire images. only after we completed the images, and after we all suffered multiple yellow jacket stings, we found out it was deep cow's lip. hahahaha. Deep Cowslip 3 sounded like the cheesiest 70's horror film ever.

Blue Wildebeest
The blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus), also called the common wildebeest, white-bearded wildebeest, or brindled gnu, is a large antelope and one of the two species of wildebeests. It is placed in the genus Connochaetes and family Bovidae, and has a close taxonomic relationship with the black wildebeest. The blue wildebeest is known to have five subspecies. This broad-shouldered antelope has a muscular, front-heavy appearance, with a distinctive, robust muzzle. Young blue wildebeest are born tawny brown, and begin to take on their adult colouration at the age of 2 months. The adults' hues range from a deep slate or bluish gray to light gray or even grayish brown. Both sexes possess a pair of large curved horns.
The blue wildebeest is a herbivore, feeding primarily on short grasses. It forms herds which move about in loose aggregations, the animals being fast runners and extremely wary. The mating season begins at the end of the rainy season and a single calf is usually born after a gestational period of about 8.5 months. The calf remains with its mother for 8 months, after which it joins a juvenile herd. Blue wildebeest are found in short-grass plains bordering bush-covered acacia savannas in southern and eastern Africa, thriving in areas that are neither too wet nor too arid. Three African populations of blue wildebeest take part in a long-distance migration, timed to coincide with the annual pattern of rainfall and grass growth on the volcanic soil short-grass plains where they can find the nutrient-rich forage necessary for lactation and calf growth

Gnu-de-cauda-preta
O gnu-de-cauda-preta (Connochaetes taurinus) ou boi-cavalo-de-cauda-preta [2] (em inglês, blue wildebeest, "gnu-azul") é uma das duas espécies de gnu, encontrada no Leste e Sul da África e contando com pelagem cinzenta, mas face e a cauda negras.
O gnu é um herbívoro que se alimenta principalmente de gramíneas curtas. Estes animais são corredores rápidos e extremamente cautelosos. A estação de acasalamento começa no final da estação chuvosa e um único filhote geralmente nasce após um período gestacional de cerca de 8,5 meses. O bezerro permanece com sua mãe por 8 meses, após o qual se junta a um rebanho juvenil. Os gnus são encontrados nas planícies de grama curta que margeiam savanas de acácia cobertas de arbustos no sul e no leste da África, prosperando em áreas que não são nem muito úmidas nem muito áridas. Três populações africanas de gnus participam de uma migração de longa distância, programada para coincidir com o padrão anual de chuva e crescimento de grama nas planícies de grama curta do solo vulcânico, onde podem encontrar a forragem rica em nutrientes necessária para a lactação e crescimento de bezerros

Pilanesberg Game Reserve
The Pilanesberg Game Reserve is located north of Rustenburg in North West Province in South Africa. The park borders with the entertainment complex Sun City. The park is currently administered by the North West Parks and Tourism Board.
The area is fringed by three concentric ridges or rings of hills, of which the formation rises from the surrounding plains. Pilanesberg is named after a Tswana chief, Pilane, the 'Pilanesberg Alkaline Ring Complex' is the park's primary geological feature. This vast circular geological feature is ancient even by geological standards as it is the crater of a long extinct volcano and the result of eruptions some 1,200 million years ago. It is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its type in the world, the rare rock types and formations make it a unique geological feature. A number of rare minerals occur in the park.
Scattered throughout the park are various sites that originate from the Iron Age and Stone Age and show the presence of man from those periods in these areas.
The park has an area of 572 square kilometres (221 sq mi). One can travel through in a standard road vehicle as although most of the 188 kilometres of track are not surfaced, they are well maintained.
The Pilanesberg is not in a location which the Big Five animals would naturally inhabit, however they have been brought into the 550 square kilometres of African bushland

A Reserva de Pilanesberg está localizada ao norte de Rustenburg, na Província Noroeste, na África do Sul. O parque faz fronteira com o complexo de entretenimento Sun City. O parque é atualmente administrado pelo North West Parks and Tourism Board.
A área é orlada por três cristas concêntricas ou anéis de colinas, das quais a formação se eleva das planícies circundantes. Pilanesberg é nomeado em homenagem a um chefe Tswana, Pilane, o 'complexo alcalino circular de Pilanesberg' é característica geológica primária do parque. Here are a pair of native Indian Warrior (Pedicularis densiflora) in the Orobanchaceae plant family growing along West Camino Cielo road today, no doubt lingering fire-followers from the Gap Fire back in 2009. It's hard to find the right exposure to photograph these "red, all too red" plants and flowers! This shot is a compromise between too-bright and too-dark. The flower heads are mostly leafy bracts with a few real flowers tucked in. If you look close, you can see the exerted pistils stuck out like little tongues and the stamens curled up inside the hood-like upper lip of the flowers. The foliage isn't always so dark red. These plants are root-parasites of several different chaparral shrubs, probably Chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum, Rosaceae) in this place. (San Marcos Pass, 20 March 2016)
